Chapter 32 - Chapter Thirty-Two: The Hunt Begins

The night was quiet outside the mansion, but inside, the air was electric.

Daniel had traced the digital footprints further, and Michael now had a clear location. It was an unassuming office building on the outskirts of the city, but the files and evidence pointed unmistakably to the orchestrator of the plagiarism accusations.

Alicia watched from the car, her fingers resting lightly against Michael's arm. "Do you think this will finally end it?"

Michael's eyes never left the street ahead. "It will. But only if we handle it carefully. The goal isn't just to catch them it's to prove your innocence without giving them leverage."

She nodded, swallowing the mix of fear and determination twisting in her chest. "I'm ready."

Meanwhile, Sophie and Adrian sat in the mansion's control room, coordinating the online evidence. Screens displayed social media posts, email trails, and timestamped submissions. Their fingers occasionally brushed as they passed notes, and each touch lingered just a moment longer than necessary.

"Do you think she'll be okay?" Sophie asked, her voice quieter than usual.

Adrian's gaze softened as he watched Alicia's image on the monitor. "She will. She's stronger than anyone gives her credit for."

Sophie's lips curved slightly. "I just… I don't want her to feel alone."

"You won't let her," Adrian said, his hand brushing hers almost intentionally this time. She looked up, surprised by the subtle intimacy, and their eyes met briefly a spark neither wanted to ignore.

Back at the enemy's location, the person responsible, careful, calculating, and confident was already reviewing Alicia's designs and Michael's recent activities. They had anticipated Michael's protective instinct and were using it as leverage.

"They're predictable," the enemy muttered, eyes narrowing. "Alicia is the key to him. She's… his weakness."

Unbeknownst to them, Daniel and Michael were closing in, silent and precise.

The confrontation was inevitable.

Inside the mansion later that evening, Alicia sat in her studio, sketchbook in hand, replaying the events of the day. Michael stepped in quietly, closing the door behind him.

"You've been working hard," he said softly. "Don't forget to breathe."

She looked up, and a small, exhausted smile appeared. "I can't… not right now. Not when it's this important."

Michael knelt beside her chair, brushing a strand of hair from her face. "I know. But even the strongest need rest."

She leaned into him for a moment, resting her head lightly on his shoulder. "I don't feel small anymore," she admitted quietly. "I just… want to make sure they know it."

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders, holding her gently. "And they will. Together."

Across the mansion, Sophie and Adrian worked side by side, the tension between them softening with small gestures shared laughter over a glitching video feed, fingers brushing as they handed each other notes, subtle looks across the room. Each moment deepened the quiet, growing connection between them, even as the crisis with Alicia demanded their attention.

Sophie finally spoke, voice hushed. "Do you think… we should start thinking about us?"

Adrian's hand lingered on hers. "Step by step," he said softly. "We take the time to do this right. No rush."

She nodded, a warmth spreading through her chest. "Step by step."

Later, Michael, Daniel, and Alicia approached the enemy's location. Shadows stretched across the empty streets. Daniel signaled them forward.

"This is it," he whispered. "Be ready."

Michael's gaze met Alicia's briefly. "Whatever happens… we face it together."

She nodded, drawing strength from his presence. "Together."

And outside, the enemy watched through blinds, unaware that their careful plan was about to unravel.
