The two walked in, so Koji started to assess them.
'The guy seems to be a brute! Why is he my teacher? I don't feel like becoming anything like that...'
He continued to observe them as they walked in, the young white haired girl had a feeble and nervous appearance, while the man was the exact opposite.
"So this is your boy? He's extremely young to have become a Transcendent."
He looked down at the boy, Koji. Contradictory to his brutish looks, he actually had a warm smile plastered over his face.
Mei nodded, feeling slightly prideful.
"Yes, he is only six but he just awakened. Did we also tell you he used the brute force method to do it?"
The mans face shifted from warmth to pure surprise the second Mei told him of this.
"What? He did?"
He was very skeptical; in his mind this was extremely unlikely.
"Yes, I swear he did. Of course, we did not advise him to do that."
She quickly verified that they were not stupid enough to encourage their six year old son to do this method.
"I see, so he decided to do it on his own. What an independent six year old you have here..."
His suspicions were set aside, but now he was slightly worried.
He was going to have to tutor a child who was clearly not very obedient.
"So, Koji. I am Lin, a Midstreamer Transcendent who will be guiding you until you are of age to join the Academy. So you are six, academy is for 13 and over. So for the next seven years, I will be your tutor."
Koji basically flinched as he said this.
'Seven years!? This guy is gonna teach me for seven years?'
He was extremely skeptical about this, he had his own doubts.
What if this guy wasn't willing to teach him about lightning and soul? What if this guy turned out to be a murderer?
Anything could happen!
But on the surface, he showed innocent happiness.
"Okay!"
Lin slightly smiled at Koji's reply.
"I see your son has some deceptive ability."
Koji paled as Lin said this, what!?
It was even visible on his face that he was extremely caught off guard as he heard this.
Lin just laughed.
"You can't deceive everyone, especially at six years old."
Koji frowned, he did not expect such a reply.
"Whatever! Are you even gonna teach me what I want to learn?"
He decided not to contain his emotions anymore. After all, this Lin guy had already seen through his facade once.
Lin was still in a good mood even as Koji asked him this question.
"Well, what do you want to learn?"
Koji instantly replied.
"Lightning and Soul Mantra!"
Lin loudly laughed the second he said Soul.
This kid, this six year old wanted to learn about the Soul Mantra.
Keep dreaming!
"You want to learn about Soul? Well, Soul is one of the most secret Mantras. It is even comparable to some of the mystical ones. Only surface level knowledge is known to the general population of Transcendents."
Koji's mood was sour as he heard this, but it would be stupid for him to continue babbling on about it.
"So teach me about Lightning then!"
Then, Lin sighed.
"I'm not teaching you about any Mantra, I'm teaching you the basics for all of them before we decide on anything for you to use."
Koji heard this, and rather than getting more upset, this actually spiked his interest.
"What do you mean?"
Lin was glad Koji had calmed down.
"Well, first off. You have to learn to even contact the Velsit running through your body to make it into a physical form, of course you have no Relic yet so your Velsit's physical ability would just be a white light that does nothing. But you still need to learn that. Also, you need to learn to adapt to how you feel after losing a percentage of your bodies Velsit."
Lin sighed, in truth it was gonna take mountains of time to explain everything, so he quickly summarized it.
"In conclusion, there is lots for you to learn before deciding on a Mantra. You have to learn how to use your newfound abilities and adapt to how they change you."
Koji listened to everything he said, although he may be critical of his new teacher he was not one to ignore knowledge presented to him.
"I see, so when does the first lesson start?"
Lin smiled, he had been waiting for this question.
"Now!"
Koji's face showed a hint of surprise.
"U-uh what will I be doing?"
Lin had already prepared an answer for the question in advance long ago.
"First, you will be taught about being a Transcendent."
Koji nodded, signaling him to explain further.
"First off, becoming a Transcendent doesn't make you invincible. A Miniscule one like you is only more powerful than 90% of mortals. Also, have you noticed how different your body feels?"
Koji had been noticing a big difference, he felt way more sturdy and strong. It felt very weird to him.
"Yes, I feel stronger."
Lin nodded.
"Yes, this is one of the effects of becoming a Transcendent. Other effects include less food needed, faster, potential to use Relics and Zelits, and you may have even developed better cognitive function."
He listed multiple beneficial effects that came with becoming a Transcendent.
Koji mostly already noticed all of this, so he didn't have much of a reaction.
So Lin went on to explain multiple topics.
"First, you have to understand what becoming a Transcendent is. Becoming a Transcendent is breaking the balance of the world, essentially you are breaking out from the chains that keep humans balanced with other animals. With this comes hardship, the fact that you are a Transcendent will now cause beasts to target you when they see you. But also, since you are a Transcendent you are unbound by the laws of balance. Well, only the first layer. You see, there are 8 layers of balance that each correspond with the Transcendent ranks. So each rank you climb up, the more you have to defy it. So ranking up gets harder and harder to the point where it's almost impossible. In fact, just becoming a Midstreamer is extremely hard."
Koji was overjoyed hearing all this, after all he still craved knowledge and now it was being handed to him on a silver platter.
But what exactly were beasts? Did they also have ranks?
But before he could ask, he was interrupted by something!
