Chapter 5 - New Start

The cool crisp air of the facility bit into my skin as I walked down the hall following a few steps behind the senior doctor assigned to guide me. The doctor was a young man of middle age, dark black hair that was mixed with graying edges was cut short on his head. He wore a simple sweater and pants with a lab coat over it. On his face a pair on black square glasses sat.

The senior had introduced himself as Senior Researcher Emmanuel Smith. The man walked forward with surprising speed for his age as he talked about the facility they were in, introducing different places and what everything was that we would be doing.

After deciding to join the foundation, I had naturally chosen to be a scientist instead of joining an MTF. Compared to the death ridden MTF groups, being a SCP scientist was far safer. Sure, containment breaches were always possible, but they would happen far more infrequently than a dangerous mission with the MTF.

As I trailed behind the Senior Researcher as I calmly observed the areas around me. The halls and rooms were white and pristine, smelling faintly of some type of lemon scented cleaning agent. Lights lined the roofs blaring down with bright clear white light that left no space unilluminated. Everything was carefully maintained. Around me, dozens of Researchers hurried through halls or into different rooms. The occasional guard was stationed by different rooms of corners.

According to Dr. Smith in the staff areas where we were there weren't a lot of guards most of the time. It was only until one got to the SCPs or the D-class areas that the number of guards would rapidly increase. I wasn't allowed to enter any other areas beside the staff areas for the first few days. For starters, they just wanted me to get used to my new surroundings and workspace.

Speaking of workspaces, I wasn't provided anything crazy. A simple desk space in a large office area with a computer and a few other appliances. With my current level 1 security clearance, I couldn't even access any information on SCPs. Not that it mattered anyways. I had all the information I needed right in my head.

It was because of that information that I was naturally quite upset at where I had ended up. Site-56. A horrendous site to be at. Years of horrid management and failure to meet its goals had left it as quite the mess despite the sheer number of anomalies that were contained at the location. Not to mention the current and ongoing containment breach that had been going on in the lower sublevels of the site for years now.

The most known beast to be at this site was the very one that was doing that breach. SCP-001 "the Unseelie Queen" was said to be there. Or rather a physical manifestation of her. Due to my current low-level access, I couldn't actually know if this was a canon where she was here in the lower levels or a canon where she was in the Unseelie Court.

This SCP-001 was an interesting thing. A physical manifestation of an old godlike entity that had some sort of reality manipulation among other things. It was supposedly the Queen of the dark fae and had a whole lot of mythology attached to it.

However, I had no way of knowing which canon this was and whether this was one where she was located in the lowest 5 sublevels of the site or not.

Additionally, the other SCPs connected to this site aren't as pretty either, many beings or artifacts connected to the fae or rather being Daevite-related were also stored at the site. The Daevite Empire was an old empire that was said to have been located in in much of Eastern Europe and Asia. Their lore, a mess of timey wimey, reality changing stories is incredibly complicated. They were an old imperialistic, slave-built empire of blood thaumaturges that likely believed in SCP-001 as their god. Though this can differentiate depending on canon and universe where there was even one where they believed the Scarlet King instead. Apparently, they even inspired the rise of the Sarkists.

The Sarkists essentially being the opposite of the Church of the Broken God and believing in the flesh rather than steel. It was supposedly with the combination of factors that likely involved a revolt from the Sarkists and the invasion of Genghis Khan that led to the fall of the empire.

So, all in all, having a bunch of SCPs related to that mess here was also a huge annoyance.

Additionally, Site-56 is a major supporting site for the research of Pattern Screamers and treating those affected by them.

Combine that with the fact that there were all sorts of biohazardous specimens around, with depending on the time, potentially even samples of SCP-610 "The Flesh That Hates", and that made Site-56 an absolute moshpit of horror.

Apparently, the new Site Director was trying to fix things up, but it would be a while before the site was in a good state.

Thankfully, the site itself wasn't too bad. Facility A, where I stayed, was the oldest building at the site and was composed of 3 floors and 13 subfloors. The three floors above the ground were dedicated to use for staff and for running the Foundation front company for the site. The anomalous things happened in the sublevels with the last 5, level 9-13, potentially being used to contain SCP-001.

Additionally, there was Facility B where they housed a bunch of humans and humanoid anomalies. And then there was Facility D which was the newest building and responsible for processing unnecessary anomalies and was essentially a money-saving venture for the Foundation.

I was only allowed into Floor 1 and Floor 3. Floor 3 was where my office space was located and Floor 1 being where the mess hall and other recreational activities were. With Floor 2 being dedicated to the front company, I was unable to access it.

Working for the Foundation was really going to show whether those benefits were worth it or not.
