My jaw snapped shut, but Benedict managed to thrust his forearm between my teeth just in time.
I clamped down with everything I had, feeling his bones grinding beneath the crushing force of my bite.
He let out a guttural scream and drove his free hand into my ribs, the impact launching me backward until I slammed against a massive oak. The collision knocked every bit of air from my chest in one brutal exhale.
When I struggled back to my feet, Benedict was already rising, his body swaying but his legs still supporting his weight.
Crimson streaked his torn flesh from countless wounds, each one weeping freely. His chest heaved with ragged breaths that spoke of how much punishment he had already absorbed.
Yet somehow, he remained upright.
One of my sentinels seized the moment and squeezed the trigger. The bullet punched into Benedict's shoulder, spinning him halfway around before driving him down to one knee.
