Chapter 36 - Chapter 36 Accepting the Mission, Martial Artists are Hard to Communicate With

Returning to the classroom, after listening to this Spirit theory class about the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon, Yu Yan and Xiao Wu left the school together, taking an umbrella as they headed toward the Soul Master Guild.

The rain that had been falling since morning stopped during class, but to prevent a heavy downpour from falling again, it was better to bring an umbrella. Xiao Wu had quite a few complaints about bringing an umbrella, but Yu Yan ignored her. Children never like bringing umbrellas; it didn't matter, she would know the benefits of bringing one when it rained.

Arriving at the Soul Master Guild's mission reception, after some searching, Yu Yan accepted a request for help released by residents near Balak City. The mission issuer was Shimo Village, located to the north of Balak City.

Recently, whenever night fell, mysterious beast roars would always echo from the mountains surrounding Shimo Village.

During the day, Shimo Village organized people to go into the mountains to investigate, but they didn't find anything strange.

Several consecutive days of beast roars had made the villagers fearful. After some discussion, the villagers raised a sum of money (three gold coins) and posted a mission at the Soul Master Guild, hoping a Spirit Master could come to solve these strange beast roars.

Based on the information provided by the village chief and past experience, the Soul Master Guild's mission reviewers judged that the source of the roars should be a beast that had just become a Spirit Beast. Its strength wouldn't be high, and it wouldn't dare attack groups of humans.

Three gold coins was indeed a bit little to ask a Spirit Master to fight a Spirit Beast, but considering the village's situation, they made an exception and posted the mission to try their luck.

A beast is to a Spirit Beast what a human is to a Spirit Master.

Under various coincidences and Opportunities, a beast will evolve into a Spirit Beast.

Two days after the request for help was posted at the Soul Master Guild, it was accepted by Yu Yan.

Yu Yan accepted this mission partly because the mission location, Shimo Village, was very close to Balak City, and partly because he wanted to take it.

After having lunch at a restaurant in Balak City and discussing the general details of the mission with Xiao Wu, the two left Balak City and set out for Shimo Village... The reason Shimo Village was named Shimo Village was that it was famous for producing millstones.

The village could produce so many millstones because the mountains around their village were rich in natural, high-quality stone resources.

Standing in front of Shimo Village and looking around, Yu Yan could see many exposed grey-white boulders on the mountains behind the village.

"Village Chief Shi, hello. We have accepted the Soul Master Guild's mission to investigate and resolve the beast roars in the mountains around your village."

Led by the villagers of Shimo Village, Yu Yan met the chief of Shimo Village, a sturdy middle-aged man covered in muscles.

Initially, seeing that only two children had come, Village Chief Shi was clearly a bit disappointed. However, after seeing the Spirit Hall Spirit Master certificate and the Soul Master Guild Spirit Master certificate shown by Yu Yan, the surprise on the Shimo Village chief's face could not be hidden.

"Great, this is just great. Finally, a Spirit Master has come to solve this problem. You don't know, ever since those beast roars appeared, we..."

"Stop, stop, stop. Village Chief Shi, I came to see you to ask a few questions. After asking, we will head into the mountains to find the source of the roars."

Not wanting to listen to Village Chief Shi's rambling, Yu Yan directly interrupted him to ask for detailed information about the beast roars.

After asking for a long time, Yu Yan didn't get much useful information, only knowing that the roars came from the mountains to the east of Shimo Village.

As they headed toward the eastern mountains, Xiao Wu couldn't help but complain about Shimo Village: "These guys are just too unreliable."

"Even so, I also want to say they are indeed very unreliable. They ramble on and on and can't get to the point."

Yu Yan nodded in agreement; he also had some complaints about the Shimo Village chief.

After chatting with the Shimo Village chief for over half an hour, the other party only provided the single piece of information regarding the direction of the roars.

Something that could have been said in one sentence took him half an hour to explain clearly. Communicating with Martial Artists is truly exhausting.

"Hahahaha..."

At the thought of Yu Yan, who was usually calm and composed, standing in front of the Shimo Village chief with a face full of question marks after the conversation ended, Xiao Wu couldn't help but burst into happy laughter.

"You're actually gloating? Ah—take my Head Rub!"

Yu Yan, who was already in a bad mood, heard this laughter. He quickly approached Xiao Wu, placed his palm on her head, and gave her a Head Rub.

"Darn you, Yu Yan! Take my Head Rub too!"

Not to be outdone, Xiao Wu jumped up, wrapped her arms around Yu Yan's neck, and placed her hand on his head to perform a Head Rub. After getting her revenge, Xiao Wu let go of Yu Yan's neck and quickly distanced herself to prevent him from rubbing her head again.

"Hmph, childish Xiao Wu."

Yu Yan let out a disdainful snort and rolled his eyes at Xiao Wu.

"Hmph, hateful Yu Yan."

Xiao Wu mimicked Yu Yan's snort and replied to him with the same phrasing.

Through the Head Rub just now, Xiao Wu suddenly noticed that Yu Yan was a head taller than her. She remembered that before Yu Yan obtained his spirit ring, he seemed to be the same height as her.

"Yu Yan, why did you grow taller after absorbing a spirit ring, but I didn't change at all? I want to grow taller too."

"Generally speaking, after absorbing a spirit ring, the Spirit Master themselves will more or less undergo some changes. You also absorbed a spirit ring, so why didn't any changes occur?"

Yu Yan was also curious about this question. He threw the question back to Xiao Wu, hoping she could provide an answer.

Regarding this issue, Yu Yan guessed it was because of Xiao Wu's own uniqueness; she didn't absorb a spirit ring, but rather condensed a spirit ring herself.

Hearing Yu Yan's counter-question, Xiao Wu, who also had some guesses, decisively shut her mouth and stopped talking about the topic. Yu Yan was so smart; if they really continued talking about it, he might discover some of her secrets.

The two quickly went up the mountain. After a simple search around the mountains, they didn't find anything unusual.

Since the beast roars only sounded at night, Yu Yan and Xiao Wu decided to wait in the mountains until nightfall. The villagers of Shimo Village were afraid of the roars, so they hadn't investigated the mountains at night, and they didn't know what was in the mountains during the night either.

Xiao Wu caught a few wild chickens in the mountains. Yu Yan used the fire fish to ignite a flame and made Beggar's Chicken for Xiao Wu.

The plump and fragrant Beggar's Chicken made Xiao Wu exclaim how delicious it was while she ate two whole chickens by herself.

"You have a really good appetite."

Looking at Xiao Wu, who was staring eagerly at the Beggar's Chicken in his hand, Yu Yan tore off a chicken leg and handed it over.

"Hehehe, Yu Yan, you're so good."

Xiao Wu took the chicken leg and began eating heartily.

Watching Xiao Wu eat and drink like that, Yu Yan wondered if he would overfeed her and make her fat.

Night fell, and a moon that wasn't very bright climbed onto the treetops, slightly illuminating the mountains.

As the saying goes, summer weather changes as quickly as a girlfriend's mood. It was raining in the morning, yet by night, the dark clouds had vanished, and the moon was in the sky.

A Spirit Master's vision far exceeds that of an ordinary person. With the help of the moonlight's afterglow, Yu Yan and Xiao Wu could see everything in the mountains clearly.

As the night deepened, at a certain moment, a loud sound appeared in the mountains.

"Is this thing a beast roar? It sounds so strange."

To Yu Yan, this sound didn't really count as a beast roar; it sounded like a cicada's chirp, yet it didn't quite sound like one either.

"Xiao Wu, come quickly! I've already locked onto the source of the sound."

Having activated her Martial Soul Possession, Xiao Wu successfully pinpointed the location of the sound by relying on the Soft Bones Rabbit's hearing, which was several times stronger than an ordinary person's.
