Kage
His breathing steadied instead.
One.
Sue's word echoed in his head.
Not three fighters.
One.
Mira lowered her bow just slightly.
"I have a plan"
Connor cracked his neck, rolling his shoulders as he stood back up. "Please tell me it involves me not getting launched again."
Mira's eyes stayed locked on Sue.
"Connor," she said quietly. "Next hit doesn't aim for her."
Connor blinked. "Then what am I hitting?"
"Trust me."
A pause.
"…you own me a twinkies" he muttered.
Kage stepped closer, shadows tightening around his arm, blade reforming, this time smaller, and denser.
"Say it anyway."
Mira exhaled.
"We force her to move where we want."
Sue tilted her head, amused.
"Oh? Planning now?"
"Yeah," Connor said, wiping dirt from his cheek. "You said think like one, right?"
Sue smiled faintly.
"Then show me."
Mira raised her bow again.
A single arrow formed
but she didn't fire.
Not yet.
Kage moved first this time, but not to attack.
He slammed his shadow blade into the ground.
The shadows spread.
Not upward, outward.
Like ink spilling across the field, crawling over broken stone and cracked dirt, swallowing light as they expanded.
Sue glanced down.
the shadows were spreading.
Connor charged again.
But this time, slower and measured.
Sue stepped forward to meet him.
Exactly what Mira was waiting for.
"Now."
She fired.
The shadows moved forming hands trying to grab hold of Sue's feet
Sue's moved a bit
That was enough.
Kage moved.
From the shadows beneath Sue herself.
His blade didn't swing
it flew upward, forming from her a shadow, aiming straight for her center.
At the same instant
Connor planted his foot and twisted his big body.
He didn't punch Sue.
He slammed both hands into the ground.
The impact sent a shockwave forward not at her, but through the terrain.
The ground under Sue cracked.
Then it Collapsed
just slightly.
Her balance broke.
For the first time
Sue reacted late.
as the arrow came flying in. At the same time
Kage's blade pierced through
or should have pierced her body.
At the last possible moment, Sue's hands snapped down, catching the shadow blade inches from her body. The edge trembled violently, resisting her grip. and catching the arrow in between her teeth.
"…Better," she admitted.
Then
Connor arrived.
Not from the front.
From below.
The fractured ground gave way as he surged upward, using the break he created to launch himself from beneath her stance. His shoulder drove upward into her midsection, all his weight and stored force behind it.
This time
Sue moved.
She slid back a full step.
The impact wasn't clean, but it worked.
Dust exploded outward as she skidded across the ground, boots carving a visible line through the dirt before she came to a stop.
Silence filled the air.
Kage landed, breathing slightly heavier.
Mira kept her bow raised, another arrow already forming.
Connor blinked.
"…Did we just—"
Sue laughed.
Not loudly. But genuinely.
"Finally," she said, brushing a bit of dust from her sleeve.
"You guys acted like a Unit and work together"
Sue
