After dinner, Friedrich feeling his luck was hot tonight wanted to go back out for night fishing and more baiting. But Elena grabbed him by the collar of fate and dragged him back inside.
Tsk is this the daily life of a married man? Seeing his father-in-law's fate, Shun could only shake his head. But he and his father-in-law were completely different.
His father-in-law was the classic example of an ordinary man from the Honkai world married to a powerful Valkyrie. Shun's strength already surpassed 99.99% of people in this world he wasn't on the same level as his miscellaneous father-in-law at all.
In the end, the farce concluded with Elena confiscating Friedrich's rods. If he wanted them, he'd have to go back to the bedroom and once in there, he wouldn't be coming out for the rest of the night.
But Friedrich clearly wasn't ready to give up. Instead of following Elena upstairs, Shun watching TV in the living room saw him sneaking toward the door like a thief.
Shun figured Friedrich probably had tools stashed at all his baiting spots. After all, dozens of square kilometers around here still belonged to Ana's family.
"Father-in-law, where are you going so late? Mother-in-law specifically told me not to let you sneak out."
Seeing Friedrich about to escape, Shun decisively sold him out. Hilarious this household clearly had Elena at the top. Who else was he supposed to side with? Siding with Father-in-law was a dead end.
"You brat!" Friedrich never expected that in such a short time, this quasi-son-in-law he'd just started to like had already been bought off by his wife and turned into Elena's lackey.
Was he truly isolated with no allies in his own home?
"Father-in-law, you wouldn't want Mother-in-law to find out about this, right?" Shun ever japan opportunist waved Friedrich over.
Looking at Shun beckoning from the sofa, Friedrich had no choice but to sit beside him.
"Couldn't you just pretend you didn't see?" Sitting down, Friedrich couldn't help complaining.
"Honestly, I don't want to make things hard for you either. But there are a few things I really want to ask and Mother-in-law is too sharp; a lot of questions aren't easy to bring up with her." Shun said honestly.
Elena was the current head of the Schariac family. Though the Schariacs weren't prolific, they still had dozens of members far more flourishing than the Apokalis or Kaslana, whose family registers barely filled a few pages.
That Elena could become head already said a lot. She was the most outstanding among dozens not like Siegfried, inheriting as the sole survivor of a single line.
"Is this how you ask people questions? What do you mean Elena's too smart? Am I just dumb? …Yeah, I guess I am."
By the end, Friedrich had lost confidence. Indeed compared to the shrewd Elena, his mind was much more straightforward.
Otherwise, how could he spend every day thinking about bait spots and fishing? That's just how we anglers are. Elena only had to manage the Schariac family. Anglers had a lot more to consider.
"Fine, ask away. Whatever I know, I'll tell you." Friedrich gave up explaining. But he was quite curious what intel Shun was after.
Shun handed him a bottle of happy water and said, "I just want to know the Schariac family's true opinion of Otto of Bishop Otto. For example are you obeying him out of respect or out of fear?"
Hearing Shun's outrageously rebellious words, Friedrich immediately spat out the happy water he'd just drunk.
"Bold! How dare you touch such a topic this is a slippery slope you can't even approach!" After scolding Shun, Friedrich glanced around nervously before leaning close to Shun's ear and whispering,
"Of course it's fear. Other Valkyries might not know but don't we Schariacs know exactly what kind of person he is?"
Seeing Friedrich's thoroughly cowed expression, Shun immediately grew interested. This was territory the plot had never touched the real charm of the living world. The biggest difference between reality and the game.
"Do you know the history of Schicksal from five hundred years ago?"
Of course Shun knew and probably in more detail than even the Schariac family records. But since he wanted to fish for information now, he naturally pretended ignorance.
"I'm just a young guy from Shenzhou how would I know Schicksal's history from five hundred years ago? Father-in-law, tell me about it."
"Alright, then I'll start. Five hundred years ago, the head of the Schariac family was Lisa Schariac. But she wasn't originally Schariac she married in from the Apokalis family."
"She was Otto's second older sister. After the previous Archbishop Nicholas died five hundred years ago, she propped up her nephew as a puppet and controlled Schicksal."
"And Otto?" Since neither of the two present had much respect for that old fogey, they just called him by name.
"It's said that back then Otto had just lost his wife and ran off to become a priest in some church. Schicksal was under Lisa's control for over a decade until an uprising army flying the banner of Saint Kallen overthrew the old Schicksal."
"What does that have to do with Otto?" Shun continued playing dumb.
"Because the leader of that uprising army was none other than Otto Apocalypse after spending over a decade as a priest!"
"After he overthrew the old Schicksal, he hanged every noble who had participated in Saint Kallen's execution. And because the Schariac family had been controlled by Lisa and become her lackeys…"
"The entire Schariac family at that time was basically wiped out by Otto. The current Schariac family isn't really the same one from five hundred years ago. It's said our ancestor came from one of Otto's subordinates: Eleanor Schariac."
"Knowing this history, of course we're afraid of him. In fact, Otto has been Archbishop for five hundred years now. No one knows how he can live so long. With such an old monster around, we who were originally spared as sinners naturally have to obey him."
"So in other words, you're all just submitting under his tyranny?"
"How could it be only that? There are also some idiots who genuinely think he's a good person." At this point, Friedrich's eyes drifted to the side.
Shun followed his gaze. It was a framed photo on the wall. Besides Elena and Friedrich, it included other Schariac family members.
One person in it was very familiar to Shun. Her name was Cecilia Schariac.
"There are always some fools who get fooled by that sanctimonious guy, going off to fight 'for all the beauty in the world.' Cecilia was exactly that kind of person."
Friedrich unconsciously looked at Cecilia in the photo, speaking with a heavy heart and sorrow.
No you're wrong, Father-in-law. Cecilia was very smart. She knew exactly what kind of person Otto was. She just wanted to use Otto to protect the people.
She even anticipated that Otto would launch a Honkai fission bomb to flatten Babylon Labs.
Unfortunately, Shun couldn't tell this man what he knew.
