Chapter 1 - CHAPTER 1: The Night Everything Changed

The Grand Meridian Hotel had never looked more magnificent.

Crystal chandeliers sparkled above the large ballroom, filling the room with warm golden light. The polished marble floor reflected the glow of the lights while soft classical music floated gently through the air.

Elegant guests moved gracefully across the room, dressed in expensive gowns and tailored suits. Laughter mixed with the sound of champagne glasses clinking together.

It was one of the most prestigious charity galas in the city.

And tonight, Seraphina Vale was one of the most admired women in the room.

She stood near the grand staircase, greeting guests with a polite smile. Her silver evening gown shimmered softly under the lights, fitting her slender figure perfectly before flowing down to the floor.

Her dark hair was styled neatly, revealing her delicate features and bright eyes.

Many men glanced at her with admiration as they walked past.

But Seraphina noticed none of them.

Her attention was focused on only one man.

Across the ballroom stood Dominic Virelli.

Tall and confident, Dominic looked every bit like the successful businessman people admired. His black suit was perfectly fitted, and his posture showed the quiet confidence of someone who was used to power.

Several wealthy investors surrounded him, listening carefully as he spoke.

Seraphina watched him with warmth in her eyes.

In three months, Dominic would become her husband.

She gently touched the diamond ring on her finger, a soft smile forming on her lips.

Dominic had proposed six months ago, promising her a future filled with love and success.

Seraphina had believed every word.

Tonight was meant to be special. Dominic had told her he would make an important announcement during the event.

Perhaps he was going to announce their wedding date.

The thought made her heart beat faster.

"Seraphina."

The voice beside her interrupted her thoughts.

She turned to see Valencia Virelli, Dominic's younger sister.

Valencia stood confidently with a glass of champagne in her hand. She was strikingly beautiful, dressed in a bold red gown that attracted attention from many people in the room.

But her smile carried a sharp edge.

"Good evening, Valencia," Seraphina said politely.

Valencia slowly looked her up and down.

"Well," she said with a small smirk, "you certainly look confident tonight."

Seraphina raised an eyebrow.

"Shouldn't I be?"

Valencia took a slow sip of her drink before replying.

"I suppose that depends."

There was something strange in her tone, but Seraphina ignored it.

Valencia had never liked her, and the feeling was almost mutual.

Before Seraphina could respond, the music suddenly faded.

A soft sound came from the microphone near the stage.

Guests began turning their attention toward the front of the ballroom.

Seraphina's heart skipped a beat.

Dominic had stepped onto the stage.

He held the microphone confidently, waiting for the room to grow quiet.

"Ladies and gentlemen," he began smoothly, "thank you all for joining us tonight for this wonderful charity event."

The audience applauded politely.

Seraphina watched him proudly.

Dominic continued speaking about the charity foundation and the importance of helping others.

But after a moment, his voice changed.

"There is something else I would like to address tonight."

The room became even quieter.

Seraphina felt a wave of excitement.

This must be the announcement.

Dominic's gaze slowly moved through the crowd until it stopped on her.

"Many of you know Seraphina Vale."

People turned to look at her.

Seraphina smiled politely, unaware of what was about to happen.

"Seraphina and I have been engaged for several months," Dominic continued.

More applause filled the room.

But Dominic raised his hand.

"Unfortunately," he said slowly, "I recently discovered something deeply disappointing."

Seraphina frowned slightly.

What was he talking about?

Dominic's expression hardened.

"I have discovered that the woman I planned to marry has been dishonest with me."

Whispers spread through the crowd.

Seraphina's heart began to pound.

She took a small step forward.

"Dominic?" she called softly.

But Dominic ignored her.

"For months," he continued coldly, "Seraphina has been secretly seeing another man behind my back."

Gasps filled the ballroom.

Seraphina's face turned pale.

"That's not true," she said immediately.

Dominic reached into his jacket and removed several photographs.

"And unfortunately," he said calmly, "I have proof."

A large screen behind him suddenly displayed the images.

Seraphina felt her stomach drop.

The photographs showed her entering a hotel with a man.

But the pictures were clearly manipulated.

"This is fake," she said, her voice shaking.

The whispers in the room grew louder.

People stared at her with shock and judgment.

Dominic looked down at her with cold eyes.

"I will not marry someone who betrays me," he said firmly.

Seraphina felt as if the ground had disappeared beneath her feet.

"Dominic, please," she said quietly. "You know me. You know I would never do something like this."

Valencia stepped onto the stage beside her brother.

Her lips curved into a cruel smile.

Seraphina suddenly understood.

This had been planned.

Dominic spoke again.

"From this moment forward," he said clearly, "our engagement is over."

The words echoed through the silent room.

Seraphina felt hundreds of eyes staring at her.

Humiliation burned through her chest.

But she refused to cry.

Not here.

Without another word, she turned and walked toward the exit.

The whispers followed her like shadows.

When she finally stepped outside the hotel, the cool night air struck her face.

For a moment she simply stood there, trying to breathe.

Everything she had believed in had just been destroyed.

Her love.

Her future.

Her reputation.

All gone.

The hotel doors opened behind her.

Footsteps approached slowly.

"You handled that surprisingly well."

The deep male voice startled her.

Seraphina turned.

A tall man stood near a black luxury car parked at the curb.

He was striking.

Broad shoulders. Dark hair. Sharp features.

But his eyes were what captured her attention.

Cold.

Intelligent.

Powerful.

"Who are you?" Seraphina asked quietly.

The man studied her calmly.

"My name is Cassian Blackthorn."

The name sounded familiar.

Very familiar.

Cassian Blackthorn was one of the most powerful billionaires in the country.

He watched her carefully.

"You were betrayed tonight," he said.

Seraphina swallowed.

"Yes."

A faint smile appeared on his lips.

"Good."

She frowned.

"Good?"

Cassian stepped closer, his voice low and calm.

"Because people who lose everything," he said softly, "often become the most dangerous."

Seraphina looked into his dark eyes.

Something about his words stirred a strange feeling inside her.

Cassian opened the door of his car.

"If you want revenge," he said quietly, "get in."

Seraphina hesitated.

Her entire world had collapsed only minutes ago.

Yet this mysterious billionaire seemed to understand exactly what she was feeling.

The city lights reflected in Cassian Blackthorn's cold eyes.

For the first time that night, Seraphina felt something stronger than pain.

She felt anger.

And deep inside her heart…

The desire for revenge began to grow.
