Chapter 162 - Chapter 162: Reconciliation

"Ugh, the voice is coming directly from inside my head..."

Lest Karr clutched his head.

Luke wasn't faring much better. Even as someone who held the script, he actually felt that what the Progenitor said made sense—everyone's interests were indeed aligned.

This telepathy had a brainwashing effect!

Snap!

"Brainwashing spell dispelled."

Rig's steady voice rang out along with the sound of a finger snap.

Instantly, the group of Vampires felt the discomfort in their heads fade.

"Phew, you're really something, reliable adult male."

Luke shook his head, feeling a lingering fear. He gave Rig a thumbs-up and then turned to check on Krul.

Krul shook her head to indicate she was fine. Like the other Progenitors, she looked at the Progenitor with a solemn expression. Even though his abilities were supposed to be sealed, he could still brainwash them. As expected of the First Progenitor?

The Progenitor had used unknown means to remove the chains piercing his throat. His throat was covered in blood, and the wound was being filled by newly born cells, though the blue blood was truly eerie.

"You are no longer an ordinary Vampire."

No emotion could be heard in the Progenitor's voice.

Hearing this, Rig was quite proud and wore a smile.

"After all, I spent a long time thoroughly researching the sorcery of that group within the 'Emperor Demon' organization you established. The Light Spells, the Demon Spells, the Blood Spells."

Then, doubt clouded Rig's eyes as he continued to question the Progenitor.

"By controlling divine punishment, you achieved the weaponization of the 'seraph of the end'. But who sent down that divine punishment? With those wings, you look just like an angel. Where do you come from? Who is hunting you? Who... exactly are you?"

Rig's rapid-fire questions were almost too much for the surrounding Progenitors to digest. Krul, having just heard Luke's whispers and gained a brief understanding of the Progenitor's past, found it easier to follow. Luke and Urd also understood, but it was hard on Lest Karr and Guren. Both were highly intelligent, but the revelation that the Progenitor might be an angel left them dazed.

Rig's words didn't stop there.

"Your goal is to resurrect Mikael—to resurrect one of your own kind. Whether you are an angel or a demon, the price to be paid is immeasurable. You're even willing to use sorcery to forcibly transfer from a host's body into Mikael's consciousness space to achieve your goal. This isn't something we can just ignore."

Hearing the words "own kind," a look of loneliness flickered in the Progenitor's eyes.

"There will be no change to this world. The price is..."

He looked up, his gaze sweeping across all the Vampires, and said word by word.

"The seven sin keys, and the lives of every Vampire."

"What?!"

The Vampires were all startled by the Progenitor's answer. The lives of all Vampires?! Most of the crowd showed shock, while a few even seemed moved. The curse of immortality was indeed exhausting; if they could die so easily... Even Urd wore a shocked expression; this was clearly an answer even he hadn't anticipated.

Among the Vampires present, only Rig, Luke, and Krul remained calm. Guren had even dropped his trademark smile, replaced by shock.

After his initial surprise, Crowley noticed the expressions on Luke and Krul's faces. He wasn't too surprised that they weren't surprised, but that in itself was surprising.

Did they know all along?

The last person Crowley had met who was this hard to read was Ferid. As he got to know Luke better, Crowley found this guy even harder to see through than Ferid.

Having heard so much information from the Progenitor, Crowley could roughly guess what Ferid and Luke meant by the method to fulfill their wishes. The key lay in those seven sin keys. Since the Progenitor needed them to resurrect his child, he might also be able to resurrect others. It was possible his comrades from his time as a knight could be brought back; he just didn't know if Vampires would still be required as sacrifices then.

Thinking of this, Crowley truly decided to stand on Luke's side.

Once the Vampires had calmed down a bit, Rig spoke with a mocking smile.

"Oh dear, how can you say our interests are aligned?"

The Progenitor spoke quite casually.

"You're all about tired of living and want to die, don't you?"

Luke:? What kind of talk is that?

"I see, I understand now."

Rig smiled happily. Without warning, over a dozen chains shot out from behind him, piercing the Progenitor from various angles.

"Aaahhh!!!"

Even the Progenitor cried out in pain under the torment of the power Rig had researched using the Seraph's power.

Rig turned a deaf ear and nodded.

"This is the first time I've found a reason to live. I simply cannot let a guy like you get what he wants."

Rig, his clothes spotless, left the cage and spoke to Urd and the other Progenitors.

"My apologies, everyone. I've been gone for so long, and yet the moment I return, I have to make some excessive demands."

Urd gave a light snort and said sharply.

"You've always been like this."

Rig didn't argue. With a solemn expression, he reached out a hand.

"That guy's words can't be trusted. There's no telling what would happen to the world. Even if we do as he says, we might not actually die. Let's just stay alive a bit longer for now and stop Mikael's resurrection. Let's stabilize the world, and after that, I will find a way to die. Can you all trust me and leave it to me?"

Luke muttered under his breath.

"Well said. Listening to the Progenitor would have meant dying long ago."

Seeing that Rig didn't look like he was lying, Urd felt like the old Rig had returned. He placed his hand on top without hesitation.

"There's no need for you to shoulder everything alone. We Vampires only increased our descendants to maintain the world."

Lest Karr also stepped forward and reached out his hand.

"Welcome back, Lord Rig."

Guren was no exception.

"Well, since Lord Urd has said so."

Krul said nothing, but stepped forward to join in.

However, just as her hand was about to touch Guren's, Luke suddenly appeared out of nowhere and placed his hand down first.

Krul was stunned for a moment, gave Luke a dirty look, and then placed her hand on top of his.

The Progenitors present also included Crowley. Krul and Horn were not present as they were being punished.

Crowley walked up. Under Luke's murderous gaze, he steeled himself and placed his hand over Krul's, though he didn't dare press down, precisely controlling it to stay half a centimeter above her palm.

He knew Luke was just looking for an excuse to deal with him later. After all, no matter how jealous Luke was, he couldn't possibly be jealous over a hand-stacking gesture in this situation.

Finally, Bastia also added his hand to the stack.
