đź“– The Boy Who Borrowed Time

Chapter 1: The Extra Second

The first time it happened—

No one noticed.

Not the teacher writing on the board.

Not the students whispering in the back.

Not even the clock ticking above the door.

But Eli did.

It was small.

So small he almost thought he imagined it.

The second hand stopped.

Right between two ticks.

And for just a moment—

The world held its breath.

Eli blinked.

"…What…?"

Then—

Everything moved again.

Tick.

The class continued like nothing happened.

Like time had never broken.

Like it hadn't just… paused.

Eli stared at the clock.

11:32.

Same as before.

But that didn't make sense.

Because he was sure—

It had stopped.

🕰️ After School

He told himself to forget it.

People imagine things all the time.

Especially when they're tired.

And Eli was always tired.

But as he walked home—

Something felt wrong.

The air.

The sound.

Even his footsteps felt… delayed.

Like the world was slightly out of sync.

He stopped walking.

Listened.

Nothing unusual.

But then—

Tick.

He froze.

That sound again.

But there was no clock.

"…Okay, that's not normal."

He turned slowly—

Looking around the empty street.

No one.

Nothing.

Just silence.

And then—

"…You hear it too."

Eli's heart stopped.

The voice came from behind him.

Close.

Too close.

He turned sharply—

And saw him.

A boy dressed in black.

Standing like he had always been there.

Watching him.

"…Who are you?"

The boy didn't answer.

Instead—

He tilted his head slightly.

"…You shouldn't be hearing that yet."

"…Hearing what?"

A pause.

Then—

"The time you borrowed."

Silence.

Heavy.

Confusing.

Eli frowned.

"…I didn't borrow anything."

The boy smiled faintly.

Not kind.

Not cruel.

Just… knowing.

"…Didn't you?"

A strange feeling crept into Eli's chest.

Like something was trying to surface.

A memory.

But it slipped away before he could catch it.

"…I think I would remember that."

"…No," the boy said quietly.

"…you wouldn't."

The wind shifted slightly—

But the boy didn't move.

Didn't blink.

Didn't look human.

"…Then explain it to me," Eli said, trying to stay calm.

Another pause.

Then—

"Time isn't free."

Eli's breath slowed.

"…What?"

The boy stepped closer.

"…Every second you're living right now—"

He raised his hand slightly—

"—was taken from somewhere else."

Tick.

The sound echoed again.

Louder now.

Closer.

Eli grabbed his head slightly.

"…Make it stop—"

"It won't."

The boy's voice softened—

Just a little.

"…Not until it's paid back."

"…Paid back with what?"

Silence.

Then—

"…You."

Eli's chest tightened.

"…What does that even mean?"

But when he looked up—

The boy was gone.

Like he had never been there.

Like none of it happened.

Except—

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.

The sound didn't stop.

🌙 That Night

Eli lay in bed—

Staring at the ceiling.

The ticking followed him.

Everywhere.

Louder in the silence.

"…I'm losing it…"

He closed his eyes.

Trying to sleep.

Trying to ignore it.

But then—

A whisper.

Right beside him.

"…You don't have much time."

Eli's eyes snapped open.

But there was no one there.

Only darkness.

And the sound—

That refused to leave.

Tick.

Tick.

Tick.
