Chapter 47 - Episode 47: The Doubt That Didn’t Leave

The house didn't return to normal.

Not this time.

The silence after the fight was heavier than the fight itself.

No one spoke immediately.

No one moved.

Because what had just happened—

was too fast to understand.

Two men had entered.

Two men had fallen.

And the one who stood—

hadn't even looked strained.

Sasmita's eyes remained fixed on Nandu.

Not in fear.

Not fully.

But not in trust either.

Something had shifted.

Before—

he was an answer.

Now—

he was a question.

"Who are they?" she asked finally, her voice steady but low.

Nandu didn't look at her.

His gaze was still on the men on the floor.

"I don't know," he said.

The answer came easily.

Too easily.

Sasmita frowned slightly.

"You don't know… or you won't say?"

This time—

he looked at her.

Directly.

For a brief second—

their eyes locked.

Then—

"They weren't random."

Not a denial.

Not a confirmation.

Just a shift.

Aarav stepped closer, his presence cutting through the tension.

"Check if they're conscious," he said calmly.

Not a question.

A direction.

Nandu nodded once.

He crouched beside one of the men, checking his pulse with the same calm precision he had shown before.

Alive.

Both of them.

Controlled.

"They'll wake up," Nandu said.

"When?"

"Soon."

Sasmita took a slow breath.

Everything about this—

felt wrong.

Too controlled.

Too calculated.

Too perfect.

"Why would someone come here?" she asked, more to herself than anyone else.

No one answered.

Because the real answer—

couldn't be said.

Aarav's gaze shifted briefly toward Nandu.

A silent exchange.

Short.

Precise.

Then gone.

"We'll handle it," Aarav said.

Simple.

Final.

But Sasmita didn't move.

Didn't step back.

Her eyes were still on Nandu.

"You fight like you've done this before," she said quietly.

No accusation.

Just truth.

Nandu stood up slowly.

"I handle situations when needed."

"That's not what I asked."

A pause.

The air tightened.

"What exactly are you?" she asked.

The question landed.

Heavy.

For a moment—

no one spoke.

Then—

Nandu exhaled softly.

"Someone who was there at the right time."

That wasn't an answer.

And she knew it.

Sasmita looked away.

Because pushing further—

felt like crossing a line she didn't fully understand.

From the side, Aarav watched everything.

Carefully.

Because doubt—

was part of the plan.

But too much doubt—

was dangerous.

"Take him inside," Aarav said, referring to her cousin.

The moment shifted.

Just enough.

People moved.

Voices returned.

The house tried—

again—

to feel normal.

But it didn't work.

Later that night, after everything settled again—

Sasmita stood alone in the hallway.

The lights were off.

Only darkness surrounded her.

Her thoughts—

louder than anything else.

"He's hiding something…"

The realization came slowly.

But once it did—

it didn't leave.

In the guest room, Nandu sat for the first time.

Silent.

Still.

His phone in his hand.

The screen lit up.

Contact avoided. Observation complete.

He read it.

Then typed back—

Proceed to next phase.

Across the house, Aarav stood near the window.

Looking out—

but seeing beyond.

"…She's starting to question," he murmured.

A pause.

Then—

"That's fine."

Because doubt—

wasn't the problem.

Exposure was.

And as long as the truth remained hidden—

the game could continue.
