Chapter 16 - Episode 16: The Price of Loving a Mafia Boss

The house had finally gone silent.

No more footsteps. No more gunfire. No more chaos.

But peace didn't return.

Only tension remained… heavy and unspoken.

Meera Verma sat on the edge of the bed, her hands still trembling slightly.

Everything had happened too fast.

Too real.

Too impossible to ignore.

Across the room, Kabir Rajvansh stood near the window.

Watching outside.

Always watching.

Always calculating.

Even after war… his mind didn't rest.

Meera finally spoke softly.

"Will they come again?"

Kabir didn't turn immediately.

"Yes."

Simple.

Honest.

Unchanging.

Her heart sank a little.

"So this is my life now?"

Kabir's gaze finally shifted toward her.

For a moment… there was silence.

Then—

"No."

A pause.

"Not if I end it first."

Meera frowned slightly.

"You can't keep fighting forever…"

Kabir walked slowly toward her.

Each step controlled.

Each step heavier than the last.

"I already have been fighting forever," he said quietly.

A pause.

"But for the first time…"

His eyes locked onto hers.

"…I have a reason to win."

Meera's breath caught.

Because that wasn't mafia talk.

That was something deeper.

Something personal.

Something dangerous.

She looked away first.

"I never asked to be part of this."

Kabir nodded once.

"I know."

A pause.

"And I never planned to bring you into it."

Silence filled the room again.

But this time… it felt different.

Not fear.

Not chaos.

Just truth.

Meera's voice softened.

"Then why me?"

That question hung in the air like a wound that had never healed.

Kabir didn't answer immediately.

For once… the mafia boss didn't have a quick response.

Because the answer wasn't logical.

It wasn't strategic.

It wasn't planned.

It was accidental.

It was dangerous.

It was irreversible.

Finally, he said quietly—

"Because you were the only person I couldn't treat like a mistake."

Meera's eyes widened slightly.

Kabir continued.

"I've destroyed people without feeling anything."

A pause.

"But with you… I feel everything I was never supposed to feel."

Silence.

Heavy.

Unfair.

Real.

Outside, distant sirens echoed again.

The world wasn't finished with them yet.

It never would be.

Kabir straightened slightly.

"We leave tomorrow."

Meera blinked. "Leave?"

He nodded.

"You're not safe here anymore."

She stood up instantly.

"And where will I go?"

Kabir looked at her for a long moment.

Then said—

"Somewhere I can keep you alive… even if it destroys me."

Meera's voice cracked slightly.

"You talk like I'm already yours."

Kabir didn't deny it.

Because the truth didn't need permission anymore.

He stepped closer one final time.

Not forceful.

Not threatening.

Just certain.

"I don't know what this is," he said quietly.

"But I know what happens if I let you go."

A pause.

"And I can't survive that version of my life."

Meera stood frozen.

Because now she understood something clearly.

This wasn't just her story anymore.

It was his downfall too.

And somewhere between danger and love…

the mafia boss had already made his choice.

Even if it meant losing everything else.

To be continued… 💔
