Janice's first reaction upon hearing the knocks on the door was to call for help. But before she could do so, a rag was stuffed into her mouth.
She couldn't make any sound.
The man glanced outside the door warily, then gave Janice a fierce warning. "Stay put."
After warning Janice, the man turned and walked out. The door was closed and the room returned to darkness.
Soon, a voice came from outside the door.
"Where is she?"
"Inside."
"Very well, you all can leave."
"That won't do. You have to tell the Valen woman that we've got her."
Their conversation wasn't loud, but it was enough for Janice to hear.
However, she could no longer hear what was said after that.
Sometime later, the door was opened once more. This time, a short bald man walked in.
As soon as he entered the room, he dragged her up from the ground and walked straight out without saying a word.
As a strong light shone in, she was dragged into a bright room.
