Silence enveloped the entire clearing as Leonard led Tessa to a quiet spot where she could sit and eat in peace.
"No one will disturb you here," Leonard said. "And we can make you a nice meal."
He dropped the rabbits onto the ground before crouching beside a pile of stones, trying to start a fire. Tessa sat nearby, hugging her knees as she watched him work.
Even though they were alone, she could still feel countless eyes following her from a distance. The snake people hadn't exactly mastered the art of subtle staring.
It was honestly creepy.
"I don't know..." Leonard muttered while striking two stones together. "These stones look terrible. They're refusing to cooperate."
Tessa opened her mouth, wanting to point out that he was hitting the wrong angles entirely and would probably smash his fingers before producing a spark.
But Leonard looked ridiculously confident.
So she simply gave him a thumbs-up.
"Of course. You're doing amazing."
"Exactly."
