Tessa stared blankly ahead, her eyes practically dead as she waited for something to click—some explanation, some miracle, anything at all.
Unfortunately, she knew nothing was going to click.
"We should get moving before sundown. We can cover a lot of distance before then."
Leonard looked far too excited about this journey, and Tessa found herself wondering if he knew about the bond.
Surely he should have told her.
Keeping something like that from her wasn't exactly nice. Then again, she wasn't sure if now was the right time to bring it up. More importantly, she needed to get away from this cursed cave before her body turned into snake soup.
"Have you changed your mind about leaving?" Leonard asked. "Why aren't you moving?"
Tessa finally forced herself to take a step forward.
Then another.
She walked out of the cave entrance, leaving the snake settlement behind.
At least for now.
