Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Echeveria lilacina

She was taken in by a baroness who pitied her, charmed by her jewel-like green eyes. Yet among a family of yellow-cream eyes and indigo hair, her brown curls stood out too much. She resembled no one.

An outsider within her own home.

She's the Female Lead of the "Flowers are actually Fairies: The main character always win." The original story that I'm currently living.

The baroness loved her dearly, yet soon death entered her doorstep not too long.

After that, the baron began to abuse her, blaming her for everything. The other children never spared her a glance. Her only comfort became the fading memories she had with the late baroness, studying flowers together and watching the flowerbeds they planted bloom beneath the sunlight.

Then one day, she awakened the Earth element she would later become known for.

The ability that made her the heroine of the story.

To make flowers bloom.

That power attracted countless fairies, even those from different elements, along with fairies already bound by contract. They adored her, speaking to her even when others could not hear them.

Then some random count whose name I already forgot wanted her ability, so the baron sold her off without hesitation.

That same count provided her with everything she needed to live comfortably—

only so he could make use of her power, for political standard.

Eventually, the count introduced her to Lord Caelrion because of her ability. Their relationship began as nothing more than a contract. At the time, Lord Caelrion was already a Grand Duke, and he had supposedly agreed to the arrangement in order to sever ties with Lady Velora—the villainess.

Lord Caelrion's reputation had long been stained because of his engagement with Lady Velora, whose poisonous flowers and isolated nature made her feared throughout noble society.

Then came the banquet where Lord Caelrion first revealed his relationship with the Female Lead.

Lady Velora, consumed by fury, rushed into the banquet hall and that was where her life ended.

From the girl I saw through the carriage window—

'She has the same brown hair with pigtail curls. The same green eyes shade as the forest and reflect as neon in daylight.

'She looks like the Female lead.'

And here name is—

—bam—

I suddenly stand and throw open the carriage door while it's still moving.

Rey screams in horror, too shocked to react immediately.

"Wh-w-w-w-wh-WHAT!?"

I leap from the moving carriage.

Rey lunges for me, barely missing my arm.

"Velly!"

'That's her! That's—'

My face slams directly into the ground, unable to move.

Why?

Because I sprained my ankle.

"Ouch…"

'It hurts…'

—Few minutes later, Market—

Rey crouches in front of me, caught between worry and fury.

"Are you becoming an idiot!?"

"ha ha ha."

'I forgot, I was small. I'm still used being tall.'

'...'

I tear up a little.

'I got excited when I saw her. Like who wouldn't!?'

'The female lead in flesh!?'

I clench both my fists in determination.

"Ow."

Pain shoots through my ankle while small bruises and scratches mark my delicate skin.

'I didn't realize rich people had such delicate skin.'

"Tsk. This won't do."

Rey stands and reaches toward me.

he suddenly lifts me up and carries me back toward the carriage.

"Eh?"

'Bridal carry? Again!?'

Rey shoots me a terrifying glare.

"Remember that you're a Rosethorne. I'm not sure if the carriage door malfunctioned or if you've simply become an idiot from staying trapped in your room all day."

"But you're a hermit, only a complete idiot would jump from a moving carriage."

Rey scoffs and shrugs.

While Rey continues yapping beside me, a flash of color catches my attention from outside the carriage.

From the distance, a familiar shadow.

I immediately spot the brown-haired girl once more.

I suddenly shove Rey aside, making him stumble.

As I rush for the carriage door again, Rey finally catches on and wraps both arms tightly around my waist as I force my way through, grabbing the door frame in both hands.

"Velly!?"

I struggle wildly, trying to force my way out.

The knights finally notice the chaos and rush over in panic.

"GRAB HER ARMS!"

Rey screams desperately while trying to hold me still, one arm around my waist and the other pressing against my face.

As I struggle, I glare at the knights coldly.

"Touch me and your pay gets cut."

The knights immediately hesitate in terror, unsure what to do.

"DON'T LISTEN TO HER!?!"

Rey's grip loosens for one second and I'm able to set myself free.

I jump down, trip immediately, nearly fall again, but somehow manage to steady myself before running.

I stop where I last saw her and frantically look around.

'Where is she?'

"VVVEEEELLORRAAA!"

I turn around.

Rey is sprinting toward me like a madman.

"Hiik!"

Panicking, I choose a random route and run again.

—Few minutes later, Circle District—

'I'm lost...'

I slowly look around, scanning my surrounding.

"This is..."

'Since both the Earth Element bearer, Lord Caelrion Viremont, and the royal family of the Lysanthir Kingdom resided within the same city, the district had long become a center nobles, merchants, and influential figures naturally gathered within the district, turning it into a place where power and status intertwined.'

Whilst lost in thought, I leaned against my side.

'The circle is also called the Flower's center out of all the kingdom, this is the heart of the empire.'

'May it be the reason why wherever you go there will always be unique flowers and different soil present.'

"Hmm."

'But that's not the only reason.'

Yet instead of feeling scared. I lift my chin happily, smiling as if flowers themselves were blooming around me.

"Hehe."

So this is where they hold festivals and everything!

Remembering the original story, I recall the lively stalls filling the streets at night, vendors crowding every corner, especially—

'Food stalls!'

'…But it's still May, so the festival hasn't started yet.'

"…"

Reality suddenly sinks in.

Like walking into another room only to completely forget why you entered in the first place.

'Where am I? What was I doing?'

'...'

I lightly tap my fist against my palm as realization dawns on me.

"Ah."

'Maybe I should meet new characters related to the story?'

'If I spend more time in the city without Rey and the Rosethorne family shackling me, I might actually encounter them.'

My brain suddenly feels like disconnected wires finally snapping together as if I almost forgot the main highlight of my escape.

'The female lead...'

I rest my hand against my chin.

"Hmm..."

If I remember the original story correctly, she often stayed near the flower shop where I spotted her earlier.

I point dramatically in one direction while turning around.

"Which means it's ther—"

—thud—

I walk directly into someone.

I slowly look up.

A knight wearing a shield-emblazoned uniform.

'A knight? On duty?'

"Hello, my lady. Are you lost?"

I stare at him deeply, trying to remember if he was ever mentioned in the original story.

I squint suspiciously.

"Hmm…"

'I know there were around three or four MLs who fell for the FL.'

'The Crown Prince, Caelrion, a knight… and maybe even the villain too?'

"What's your name?"

The knight smiles brightly and crouches down slightly.

Lost in thought I didn't realize what was the knight talking about.

I stare at him once more...

"Mmm...."

'Nope. I don't even remember what the knight ML looks like.'

'I've only been living here for a month, and I finished reading the original story months ago. My memories are already blurry.'

Side effect: Forgets everything after the ending.

—Back to reality, poof—

After staring too intensely, I awkwardly avoid him.

The knight seems oddly panicked and follows after me slightly.

Confused by his reaction, I stare at him with visible suspicion.

"Are you trying to kidnap me?"

The knight immediately panics.

His cream-yellow eyes widen with worry while his ash-white hair stands out against the dull streets behind him.

'He looks like a grandma worried about their grandchild.'

Every time I walk he follows.

Every step I take, an identical step follows behind.

Step.

Step...

Step....

I suddenly turn around and stare at him, he is smiling brightly.

'What is up with these people.'

'Ah badge, I forgot. What badge does he have again?'

My gaze drops toward the emblem pinned neatly against his uniform while he continues smiling brightly at me.

A golden crest.

A ruby-colored crown with wings spread wide, pierced through by a sword with a deep blue hilt.

"1st Division… Golden…"I mumble quietly.

'THE ROYALS!?'

My eyes widen instantly.

'Why am I suddenly meeting random people who might not even be part of the original story? Is it because I'm three years before the timeline… or is this world actually moving on its own now?'

I immediately bow.

"I greet the royal knight."

"Oh?" His eyes brighten.

"I didn't expect you to recognize it, since fine ladies like you never bat an eye to a mere knight like me."

He crouches down slightly before pointing at himself.

"Do you perhaps know me?"

"No."

I answer bluntly.

"Ehh…"

His shoulders visibly droop.

"That makes me sad."

'Should I ask?'

"Who might I be speaking to?"

He places his hand beneath his chin, pretending to think deeply.

"Hmm… I don't think I should say my family name. It would be rude to lie to the only daughter of the Rosethorne family."

"My name is Silas."

Silas smiles warmly, his eyes curving shut.

'His name doesn't ring a bell nor his face.'

"..."

I freeze in place.

'Wait… did I hear that right?'

'He knows who I am?'

"I heard your brother has been searching for you, though."

"Why did you run away all alone?"

'Was I really not that far from them?'

'Either way, what am I supposed to say? I can't exactly tell him I was chasing after the Female Lead.'

'Should I just run?'

'…Ah!'

"Food. I was looking for food."

I look at him with complete determination.

'I mean… I'm not technically lying.'

Silas stares at me silently, coldly.
