Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

Andromeda stood in her home, feeling the weight of the conversation she had just had with Harry. She took a deep breath before approaching Ted, who was sitting at his desk, papers spread out around him.

"Ted," she began, her voice steady but urgent.

He looked up, a warm smile spreading across his face as he met her gaze. "What's on your mind, my beautiful Andromeda?"

She felt a flicker of warmth at the nickname, but the urgency of the situation pushed it aside. "I need to talk to you about something important."

His expression shifted to one of concern as he leaned forward, sensing the gravity in her tone. "What's going on?"

Andromeda recounted everything: how she had been called by the portraits of Euphemia and Fleamont Potter to check on their grandson after he fainted from magical and physical exhaustion. "I found signs of abuse on that poor boy, Ted. He's so thin, so vulnerable. Dumbledore sent him to live with a family that's clearly abusive and never kept an eye on him. He's paid dearly physically and with money just to be safe around us."

Ted's face darkened, and she could see the flicker of rage in his eyes. "That's inexcusable. An innocent child shouldn't have to suffer like that. It makes my blood boil to think of what he's enduring."

Andromeda nodded, feeling the same fury bubbling within her. " Ted. I promised Harry I would help him. He's determined to uncover the truth about Sirius and whether he truly betrayed the Potters. He told me he couldn't come to stay with us just yet because he feels he has a mission to accomplish first."

"And what mission is that?" Ted asked, his brow furrowing in concern.

"To free himself from Dumbledore's manipulation and games," she replied, her eyes flashing with resolve. "i wants your help with the legal side of things. He needs to know if he can clear Sirius's name."

"Of course, I'll help," Ted said, a fierce protectiveness in his voice. "This is serious business, and if Harry believes he can prove Sirius's innocence, we need to take action."

Andromeda felt a rush of gratitude as Ted rose from his chair, crossing the room to envelop her in a warm embrace. "You did well, my sweet Andromeda. You always do," he murmured against her hair, the warmth of his affection washing over her.

"Thank you," she whispered back, her heart swelling. "Together, we'll protect Harry and find the truth. He won't be another victim."

Ted pulled back slightly, looking deeply into her eyes. "We'll need to be careful. Dumbledore has a lot of power, and we can't underestimate him. But I swear, we will help Harry—whatever it takes. No child should have to endure what he's going through."

"Exactly," Andromeda replied, feeling the fierce determination radiating between them. "I won't let him down. I've lost too much already. I won't lose another family member to this madness."

Ted nodded, his grip on her shoulders tightening. "We'll protect him like he's our own. He deserves that, and more."

As they shared a moment of silent understanding, both knew that they were in this together, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead to ensure Harry's safety and uncover the truth about his past.

Miles away, Harry had returned to the Dursleys' house thanks to Kreacher. That day had been exhausting, but it was filled with revelations swirling in his mind. As he stepped through the threshold, he already felt the weight of monotony and hostility in his surroundings.

The dull walls and oppressive silence of the house were familiar to him, but this time, he felt as if he were seeing everything through a new lens. Andromeda's words echoed in his head. He now knew he wasn't alone; he had family members who cared about him and wanted to help. This realization gave him a strength he had never felt before.

Kreacher had discreetly deposited him at the entrance and then slipped away into the shadows, leaving Harry alone. He took a deep breath.

Harry went directly to his room, his mind racing with thoughts of the upcoming days. In just a few days, it would be his birthday. He opened the letter from Hermione, excitement bubbling inside him. In her letter,

Dear Harry,

I hope you're doing well! I can't believe your birthday is just around the corner! I think we should celebrate together this year. I've already sent a letter to Neville, and he's all in!

However, I must say I'm a bit annoyed that Theodore hasn't responded at all. It's unlike him not to reply, and I can't help but worry. I really hope everything is alright with him.

Let's plan to meet at Hogsmeade near Honeydukes at 9 a.m. I can't wait to see you both! It'll be so nice to catch up and have some fun. I'm bringing a special treat for you, so be prepared!

Take care, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Yours, Hermione

Despite Hermione's frustration, Harry felt a knot of worry. He hoped everything was okay with Theodore. He quickly penned a response, confirming that he would be there.

Dear Hermione,

Thanks for your letter! I'm really looking forward to celebrating my birthday with you and Neville. It'll be great to see you both!

I hope Theodore is alright too. I'll reach out to him and see if he's okay. I'm sure he'll come around.

See you at Honeydukes at 9 a.m. Can't wait!

Best, Harry

---

After sealing the letter, Harry had called for Hedwig. The snowy owl had swooped down from her perch, eager as ever. He attached the note to her leg and gave her a gentle scratch behind the ear.

"Take this to Hermione, girl. Make sure she gets it," he had said, watching as she took off into the dusky sky.

The anticipation of seeing his friends again filled him with warmth, and he couldn't help but hope that Theodore would show up too.

As he lay back on his bed, and recalled this day a small smile crept across his face. This birthday might just be the best one yet, especially with the promise of friendship in the air.

Harry had been counting down the days, and with only three days left until his birthday, he felt a wave of excitement wash over him. He decided that in the days leading up to his special day, he would stay in the Muggle world. He longed for a taste of normality, a brief escape from the weight of his magical life.

He thought about visiting Margaret, The idea of sitting with her in the library, sipping tea, and chatting about mundane things felt refreshing.

After a long day of revelations and emotions, Harry takes in his bag the meal Kreacher gives him . The smell of the delicious food filled the air, and Harry felt a comforting warmth as he ate.

Feeling tired but content, he settled into bed with a magical plant book . The pages were filled with vibrant illustrations and fascinating descriptions of various magical flora. He loved getting lost in the details of each plant's properties and uses.

As he read, Harry felt his eyelids grow heavy. The world around him faded as he immersed himself in the magic of the words. Eventually, the book slipped from his hands, and he drifted off to sleep, dreaming of new adventures, friendships, and the promise of his upcoming birthday.

The three days passed quickly, filled with anticipation and a sense of excitement. Harry had spent time with Margaret, who had showered him with thoughtful gifts in advance of his birthday celebration with friends. She had given him many lovely presents, but Harry felt that the most precious gift of all was a heartfelt hug. He remembered the sunny day he had received it, feeling the warmth of both the sun and her kindness.

---

Flashback:

It was a bright afternoon, and the sunlight streamed through the large windows of Margaret's cozy living room. The air smelled faintly of freshly baked scones, and the soft sound of birds chirping outside added to the peaceful ambiance. This was a special day for Harry, as it was the first time he was visiting Margaret at her home instead of the library, where they usually met. She had taken the day off just to celebrate his birthday in advance.

"Harry, dear, I have something special for you," Margaret said, her eyes twinkling with excitement.

"What is it?" Harry asked, his curiosity piqued.

She stepped closer, opening her arms wide. "A hug! It's the best gift I can give you, filled with warmth and love."

Harry felt a rush of gratitude as he stepped into her embrace. The moment her arms wrapped around him, he felt an overwhelming sense of comfort and safety. "Thank you, Margaret! This is just what I needed," he said, closing his eyes and savoring the moment.

"I hope it keeps you warm during the chilly nights ahead," she said softly, still holding him close. "And remember, you can always come here for a hug whenever you need one."

Harry nodded, feeling a warmth in his chest that had nothing to do with the sun shining through the windows. "I will," he promised, realizing just how much this simple gesture meant to him. It was a stark contrast to his life with the Dursleys, where affection was rare and often withheld.

Margaret smiled down at him, her expression full of affection. "You deserve to feel loved, Harry. Always remember that."

---

Back in the present, Harry smiled as he recalled that day. The memory of Margaret's warm hug lingered in his heart, a constant reminder of her kindness and support. While she had given him many thoughtful gifts, Harry felt that the hug was the most precious of them all. With his birthday just around the corner, he couldn't wait to celebrate with his friends and create new memories that would add to the warmth he felt from his past.

Today, Harry was supposed to meet up with his friends, and he was preparing with palpable excitement. As he descended the stairs, he noticed that the house was decorated with balloons and streamers. The light from the lanterns hanging on the walls added a festive touch, though it felt a bit strange to him.

When he reached the bottom of the stairs, his cousin Dudley approached him with a triumphant smile. "Hey, Harry! You better not think this is just your birthday today," Dudley announced with exaggerated pride. "It's also my second birthday!"

Harry rolled his eyes, aware that the Dursleys were trying to make the day revolve around Dudley as usual. "Right, because that makes perfect sense," he muttered under his breath, trying to ignore the smug looks on his uncle and aunt's faces. They genuinely believed that their elaborate charade would still affect him, that he would somehow feel sad or left out.

In previous years, Harry would have felt hurt by their antics, the way they trivialized his special day, but not this time. He had grown tired of their games. Instead of dwelling on it, he allowed himself a small smile, letting their efforts wash over him like water off a duck's back. They seemed shocked that he didn't react the way he used to, expecting him to sulk or be upset.

Harry had something far more important to look forward to: celebrating with his friends. He pushed past Dudley, who seemed taken aback by Harry's indifference, and stepped outside, ready to embrace a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and a sense of belonging he rarely felt at home.

As Harry stepped outside, he found Kreacher waiting for him, looking unusually eager. The house-elf rushed over, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Master Harry! Happy birthday!" he exclaimed, bowing slightly.

"Thanks, Kreacher!" Harry replied, grinning at the elf's enthusiasm. Kreacher snapped his fingers, and in an instant, they were transported to a small alleyway that led to the bustling wizarding village.

As they arrived, Kreacher gave Harry a quick, cheerful nod. "Enjoy your day, Master Harry!" he said before disappearing with another pop.

Harry smiled to himself, feeling a rush of happiness. He took a moment to adjust his clothes, making sure everything looked just right. He glanced in a nearby shop window, checking that his hair was neatly styled and that his scar was well-hidden beneath the fringe of his hair.

With a final, confident nod to his reflection, he set off toward the meeting place. The anticipation bubbled within him; he couldn't wait to see his friends and celebrate together.

When Harry arrived at the meeting spot, he spotted Theodore, looking as impeccably dressed as ever. A surge of happiness washed over Harry at the sight of his friend. He ran toward him and enveloped him in a tight hug.

Theodore froze for a moment, clearly taken aback by the unexpected display of affection. He wasn't quite used to this level of warmth. After a few seconds of hesitation, he awkwardly patted Harry on the head, a playful gesture that made Harry pull back and give him a mock pout.

"What's wrong with you?" Theodore asked, raising an eyebrow, a smirk playing at the corners of his lips.

"It's just so unfair that you've grown so much faster than me!" Harry exclaimed, crossing his arms dramatically. "We were the same height just a few months ago, and now you're like a giant!"

Theodore chuckled, his grin turning mischievous. "Maybe you just need to eat more vegetables or something, Harry. Or perhaps you should try standing on your tiptoes." He feigned a thoughtful expression, then added, "But don't worry, I'll still be your friend even if you're a bit shorter."

Harry rolled his eyes, laughing at Theodore's playful jab. The banter felt easy and comforting, reinforcing the bond they shared.

A few minutes later, Harry and Theodore heard the joyful shouts of Hermione approaching them, her voice bright and full of excitement. "Harry! Theodore!" she called out, waving her arms enthusiastically as she ran toward them.

Behind her, Neville trailed a bit more slowly, his demeanor much calmer but a warm smile on his face as he saw his friends. Hermione skidded to a halt in front of them, her eyes sparkling with delight. "Happy birthday, Harry!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around him in a hug that lifted him off his feet for a brief moment.

"Thanks, Hermione!" Harry replied, grinning widely as he returned the embrace.

Theodore stepped back slightly to give them some space but couldn't help but grin at the display of affection. "Looks like you're popular today, Harry," he teased.

Hermione, still beaming, let go of Harry and turned her attention to Theodore. "And look at you, dressed so smartly! It's like you're going to a party or something," she teased, playfully nudging him.

Neville finally caught up, adjusting his glasses as he joined the group. "Hey, everyone," he said softly but warmly, giving Harry a nod of acknowledgment. "Happy birthday, Harry."

"Thanks, Neville!" Harry said, feeling a swell of gratitude for his friends being there. The excitement in the air was palpable as they gathered together, ready to celebrate.

The children gathered around, animatedly discussing where they should go first.

"I know a great little library nearby," Theodore suggested, his eyes lighting up. "It has a fantastic collection of magical books, and they even have a section dedicated to rare creatures!"

"Sounds perfect!" Hermione replied enthusiastically. "I've been meaning to check out that new book on magical herbology. It might have some tips for my next potion!"

"Then we should definitely go there first," Harry agreed, eager to see the library Theodore was talking about.

As they walked toward the library, Neville chimed in, "After that, can we go to The Magical Herbarium? They have all sorts of magical and non-magical plants. I want to see if they have any new species in stock!"

"Absolutely!" Hermione exclaimed. "That sounds like a great idea! I could use some fresh ingredients for my potions."

"Then it's settled," Harry said, grinning. "Library first, then The Magical Herbarium, and we can finish off with the Magical Menagerie!"

"Sounds like a perfect day," Theodore added, his excitement growing. "We'll have to make sure we check out that new enchanted plant they have!"

With their plan in place, the group set off toward the library, each of them buzzing with anticipation for the day ahead.

As they made their way to the library, Harry felt a surge of excitement. This was his first real outing with his friends in a magical setting, and the anticipation made his heart race. The vibrant shops lining the cobblestone streets were bustling with witches and wizards, laughter ringing in the air.

Upon arriving at the library, Harry was immediately captivated. The Witching Woods Library was a quaint building with ivy climbing up its walls, and the scent of old parchment wafted through the open door. Inside, towering shelves overflowed with books, some floating in mid-air, while others whispered secrets to anyone who would listen.

"This place is amazing!" Harry exclaimed, eyes wide as he took in the sight.

"Wait until you see the restricted section!" Theodore teased, leading the way.

As they explored, Hermione eagerly pulled books from the shelves, her enthusiasm contagious. She found a volume on rare magical plants and handed it to Neville, who examined it with keen interest. "Look at this one!" he said, pointing at a picture of a vibrant flower. "I've read about it, but I've never seen one in person."

"Let's see if we can find a few to take home," Hermione suggested. Harry watched them banter, feeling a warm glow of happiness at being part of this group.

After an hour of browsing and picking up a few books, they decided it was time to head to The Magical Herbarium. Harry felt giddy at the thought of exploring the shop filled with plants that seemed to have personalities of their own.

Once inside, they were greeted by the sight of colorful flora in every corner, some even moving slightly as if breathing. Neville was in his element, darting from one plant to another, his eyes shining with delight. "Oh! Look at this!" he exclaimed, carefully picking up a small, vibrant green plant. "This is a Sprightly Snapper. They're great for potions, but they can be a bit tricky to handle."

As they continued exploring, Harry felt a sense of belonging. He realized how much he enjoyed being around his friends, sharing in their passions, and making memories. The atmosphere was filled with laughter and friendly competition as they challenged each other to find the most exotic plant.

After a good while, they left the herbarium, with Neville carrying a small pot of a delicate blue flower, and Harry's arms laden with a couple of magical books.

"I can't wait to see what you do with that plant!" Harry said to Neville, genuinely impressed. "You'll have to show us your results next time."

"Definitely! And I'll make sure to keep it away from you," Neville replied with a grin.

The group then decided to visit The Magical Menagerie, where they could see all sorts of magical creatures. Harry was in awe as they entered the shop, his eyes wide at the sight of fluffy Nifflers scampering about and a sleek black cat with shimmering fur lounging lazily on a shelf.

"Look at that one!" he pointed at a small creature resembling a cross between a rabbit and a ferret, bouncing around energetically.

"That's a Fluffernugget! They're known for their playful nature," Theodore explained, crouching down to get a better look.

Harry laughed as the creature hopped over to him, nuzzling his hand. "I think it likes me!" he said, his heart soaring with joy.

The day went by in a blur of excitement, exploration, and laughter. By the time they sat down for a light snack at a nearby café, Harry felt a profound sense of happiness that he hadn't experienced in a long time. The worries of the past faded as he enjoyed the company of his friends, relishing the warmth of their camaraderie.

"Thanks for today, everyone," Harry said, feeling grateful. "This has been the best birthday celebration I could have asked for!"

His friends beamed at him, their smiles as bright as the sun shining down on them. It was moments like these that made all the hardships worth it, and Harry cherished every second.

After their delightful exploration, the group headed to a charming little restaurant that Neville had suggested called The Enchanted Café. Nestled between two bustling shops, it was adorned with twinkling fairy lights that danced in the soft breeze. The café had a warm, inviting atmosphere, with wooden tables and chairs, and a cozy nook filled with colorful cushions.

As they entered, the aroma of freshly baked pastries and brewing coffee filled the air, making Harry's stomach growl in anticipation. They found a large round table by the window, where sunlight streamed in, casting a cheerful glow over their gathering.

"I hope you're ready for the best brunch ever," Neville grinned, leading the way. "They have the fluffiest pancakes and the most delicious pastries!"

As they settled in, a friendly witch with a warm smile approached their table, handing them the menus. After a few moments of excited chatter about what to order, they all decided on a variety of brunch items to share—fluffy pancakes topped with whipped cream, golden-brown waffles drizzled with syrup, and a selection of warm pastries filled with fruit and cream.

Once their orders were placed, Hermione, with a twinkle in her eye, reached into her bag and pulled out a beautifully wrapped package. "Okay, Harry, we can't let your birthday go by without a proper gift!"

"Wait, I thought we were celebrating your birthday together?" Harry replied, slightly embarrassed.

"Just open it!" Theodore urged, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

With a grin, Harry tore the wrapping paper away, revealing a beautiful leather-bound journal. The cover was embossed with intricate designs, and the pages inside were blank, waiting to be filled with his thoughts and adventures.

"Wow, this is amazing! Thank you so much!" Harry exclaimed, genuinely touched.

"It's for all your thoughts and ideas," Hermione added. "I thought it might help you document everything happening in your life, especially with all the changes coming your way."

Next, Neville chimed in, his face beaming with pride. "I got you something too!" He handed Harry a small, potted plant. It was a tiny Moonlight Bloom, a magical flower that glowed softly in the dark. "I thought you'd like it in your room. They're supposed to bring good dreams!"

"This is perfect! Thank you, Neville!" Harry said, touched by his thoughtfulness. He carefully placed the plant on the table, admiring its delicate petals.

Finally, Theodore reached into his bag and produced a small, intricately carved wooden box. "And this is from me. I know you love magical artifacts," he said with a playful smirk.

Harry opened the box to find a stunning emerald pendant set in a delicate silver chain. The emerald sparkled brilliantly in the sunlight.

Harry raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "What is it?"

It's a protective charm. It's enchanted, and if any danger comes your way, the stone will turn red to warn you."

"Wow," Harry breathed, astonished. "This is incredible! Thank you so much, Theodore!"

Theodore grinned, clearly pleased with Harry's reaction. "I thought it would be good for you to have something like this, especially with everything happening around you. You never know what might come up."

Harry felt a rush of appreciation. "I really can't thank you enough. This means a lot to me."

He carefully placed the pendant around his neck, feeling the cool touch of the emerald against his skin. It felt reassuring, like a protective embrace, reminding him that he wasn't alone in facing the challenges ahead.

As they continued their meal, Harry couldn't help but smile at the thought of his friends and the wonderful gifts they had given him. Each item was a token of their friendship and support, making his birthday celebration all the more special.

As the afternoon sun began to dip in the sky, Harry, Hermione, Theodore, and Neville continued their day filled with laughter and joy. They explored more of the village, visiting shops filled with magical curiosities and even stopped by the library to browse for new books. Each moment was a treasure, a stark contrast to the darker times Harry had faced.

At around four o'clock, they reluctantly gathered for their farewells. Hermione turned to Harry, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "Do you want me to go with you? My parents are waiting for me at a shop near the Leaky Cauldron."

Harry smiled, grateful for her company. "Sure, I'd love that!"

After exchanging warm goodbyes with Theodore and Neville, who promised to meet up again soon, Hermione and Harry headed toward the entrance of the inn. They walked together, chatting animatedly about their day, the friendship they shared evident in their easy banter.

As they approached the entrance of the inn, Harry felt a flutter of anticipation. It was nice to have Hermione by his side. Once they exited, they found themselves back in the bustling streets of the Muggle world. They walked a few meters until they spotted Hermione's parents sitting at a nearby restaurant.

He watched as Hermione jogged a few steps ahead, her excitement palpable. "Mum! Dad!" she exclaimed, rushing toward them.

Monica and Wendell Granger looked up from their table, their faces breaking into wide smiles. "Hermione!" her mother replied, standing up to embrace her daughter. "How was your day?"

"It was brilliant! I got to celebrate Harry's birthday with him and our friends," Hermione said, beaming.

Wendell leaned over to shake Harry's hand, his grip firm and welcoming. "Nice to see you again, Harry! We've heard so much about you from Hermione."

"Hi, Mr. Granger," Harry replied, feeling a bit shy but grateful for their warm demeanor.

"Just call me Wendell, please," he insisted, gesturing for Harry to sit down. "So, what was your favorite part of the day?"

Harry's face lit up. "I had a wonderful time exploring the village. We visited a lot of shops and even a library! It was probably the best birthday I've ever had."

Monica smiled, her eyes twinkling with interest. "That sounds lovely! It's great to see you enjoying your day."

Hermione chimed in, "And they surprised Harry with some amazing gifts! Theodore gave him a protective necklace. It's so cool!"

"Really?" Wendell asked, intrigued. "What does it do?"

Harry explained, "If I'm ever in danger, it'll turn red. It's like having a little bit of magic with me, even when I'm not at Hogwarts."

"That's impressive!" Monica said, nodding appreciatively. "It's wonderful to have friends looking out for you."

Harry felt a warmth spread through him at her words. "Yeah, I'm really lucky to have Hermione and my other friends."

Wendell and Monica exchanged a knowing glance, their faces softening. "It's important to have good friends, especially during tough times," Wendell said kindly. "We remember meeting you last time, and it was a bit brief. But it's lovely to chat with you now."

"I'm glad we have a chance to talk more," Harry replied, feeling more at ease. "It's nice to get to know you both better."

"Same here!" Monica smiled. "Hermione talks about you all the time. She's always full of stories about her adventures at Hogwarts."

"I just love hearing about your world," Wendell added. "It's fascinating."

As they continued chatting, Harry found himself opening up more than he expected. "I really appreciate you both. It's nice to have a supportive family around. Sometimes, I wish my situation was a bit different."

Monica's expression softened. "Family is important," she replied gently. "And it's good that you have friends like Hermione to support you."

Harry felt a warmth spread through him at her words. "Yeah, I'm really lucky."

Wendell leaned back in his chair, his tone lightening. "So, what's next for you, Harry? Are you looking forward to the next school year?"

"I can't wait!" Harry replied, his enthusiasm bubbling over. "I'm excited to learn new spells and spend more time with my friends."

As they continued chatting, the car ride toward the Dursleys' house felt less daunting. With Hermione's parents there, Harry felt a sense of belonging he rarely experienced. The warmth of their family dynamic offered him a glimpse of what life could be like, and he silently hoped to hold onto this feeling for as long as he could.
