I sighed. "It doesn't really matter anymore though, does it," I continued. "It's not going to end here for you anyway. My revenge on you actually starts now. Enjoy the last few moments of your peaceful life."
"My husband-" she began, her voice cracking.
"Doesn't want you. And if you mean Michael, he's in the hospital," I cut her off.
She froze.
"He's out of favors. And he thought it was smart to attack me in a restaurant in broad daylight. He's not coming to save you. And good luck living without any support. Not that you'll have much of a life at all. Just think of it as living like me."
In the distance, the rising wail of sirens grew louder. Cassandra's head whipped toward the sound.
The thudding of multiple pairs of boots echoed across the dock as officers flooded the area, running past me as if I wasn't even there.
