"He's recovering quickly. He'll definitely wake up soon," Melvin raised a brow at me, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes. "As for the person you think did this, you don't have to worry about him. The fact that you managed to save Lucas at all should be enough to keep them away. But that won't last very long."
Of course it wouldn't. "So?"
"I have an experiment I want to run and a test subject who's willing to do anything," Melvin raised a brow at me, a predatory smile spreading across his face.
Right. I shifted uncomfortably, the weight of my promise settling on me like a shroud.
"Yeah," I sighed, the word tasting like ash.
Melvin's smile widened, practically gleeful as he pulled out a small sachet filled with little white pills. "This medicine maximizes the fertility of creatures. Since vampires reproducing is nearly impossible and one day we'll be extinct, we're going to test if we can transcend species with medicine and see if you can have vampire offspring."
