I sat down in front of my mom, dad, and Aunt Li, the air in the dining room thick with unspoken judgment. It was our first meal together since the crane incident and I couldn't stall this conversation anymore.
My legs felt like lead weights, and honestly, I was pretty sure I still smelled like sweat, blood, and the scent of vanilla that seemed to be permanently fused to my skin now. Aunt Li thought it was just a new soap.
"So," my mom finally started, her voice dangerously low as she set down her fork. "You decided to treat a collapsing construction site like it was just another one of your games, is that it?"

"No, we waited until after finals. I need an answer," my mom shut dad up.
