Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: “The War Between Heart and Blood”

The night exploded into chaos.

Gunshots echoed through the abandoned complex, sharp and relentless, breaking the silence like thunder tearing through the sky.

Men shouted orders.

Glass shattered.

Footsteps pounded across concrete floors.

And in the middle of it all—

Kang Jae-hyun walked forward.

Not rushing.

Not panicking.

But unstoppable.

His expression was empty.

His eyes—

Dark.

Focused.

Anyone who stood in his way—

Fell.

A man charged at him—

A single move.

Down.

Another raised a gun—

Too slow.

Jae-hyun disarmed him in seconds, sending him crashing into the wall.

He didn't hesitate.

Didn't look back.

Because he wasn't here to fight.

He was here for one thing.

Soo-min.

Inside—

Han Soo-min stood frozen as alarms screamed around her.

Red lights flickered across the walls, making everything look unstable, unreal.

Her heart raced violently.

He's here.

That thought alone—

Brought both relief and fear.

"…You really mean that much to him," the man said calmly.

She turned sharply.

"…Stop this."

Her voice shook—

But it didn't break.

"…People are getting hurt."

"…People always get hurt," he replied.

A pause.

"…That's how power works."

Her fists clenched.

"…This isn't power."

Silence.

"…This is destruction."

For the first time—

The man's expression hardened slightly.

"…Same thing."

Another explosion shook the building.

Dust fell from the ceiling.

Soo-min flinched.

"…He'll come here," the man continued.

"…And when he does…"

A slow smile formed.

"…he'll choose."

Her breath caught.

"…Choose what?"

"…You."

A pause.

"…Or everything else."

Her heart dropped.

Outside—

Min-jun moved quickly through the chaos, taking down enemies with precision.

"…Left side clear!" someone shouted.

"…Push forward!" another voice followed.

But Min-jun's focus—

Wasn't the fight.

It was Jae-hyun.

"…He's going too far," Min-jun muttered.

Because he could see it.

Jae-hyun wasn't thinking.

Wasn't planning.

He was breaking through everything in his path—

Without control.

And that—

Was dangerous.

Inside the inner room—

The door slammed open.

Silence followed.

For a brief second—

Everything stopped.

Kang Jae-hyun stood there.

Dust in the air.

Red light flickering.

And his eyes—

Locked onto her.

"Soo-min."

Her breath caught.

"…Jae-hyun…"

For a moment—

Nothing else existed.

No enemies.

No danger.

Just them.

But then—

A click.

The sound of a gun.

The man stepped forward, pressing the barrel against Soo-min's head.

"…One more step."

Silence shattered.

Jae-hyun froze.

The entire world held its breath.

"…There it is," the man smiled.

"…The look I wanted."

Jae-hyun's eyes darkened further.

"…Let her go."

His voice—

Low.

Dangerous.

"…Or what?" the man replied.

A pause.

"…You'll kill me?"

Silence.

"…Go ahead."

He pressed the gun slightly closer.

"…But then she dies too."

Soo-min's body trembled.

Her heart pounded violently.

But her mind—

Was clear.

"…Jae-hyun…"

Her voice was soft.

"…Don't."

His eyes flickered.

"…What?"

"…Don't choose me."

Silence.

The words hit harder than anything else.

"…What are you saying?" he whispered.

"…This isn't right," she continued.

Her voice shaking—

But steady.

"…If you destroy everything for me…"

Her eyes filled with tears.

"…then what's left of you?"

The room felt heavier.

"…I don't care," he said.

"…I do."

Silence.

"…You're not just someone who fights," she continued.

"…You lead people."

A pause.

"…You protect them."

Another pause.

"…Don't lose that because of me."

Her words—

Cut through him.

For the first time—

He hesitated.

And that—

Was exactly what the man wanted.

"…Perfect," he whispered.

A slow grin spreading across his face.

"…You see it now, don't you?"

"…He's weak."

Jae-hyun's eyes snapped toward him.

"…No."

A step forward.

"…I'm not."

The man laughed softly.

"…You stopped."

Silence.

"…That's all I needed."

Suddenly—

He pulled the trigger.

Gunshot.

Everything slowed.

Soo-min's eyes widened.

But—

The bullet didn't hit her.

Jae-hyun moved.

Faster than before.

He grabbed her—

Pulled her down—

The bullet hit the wall.

Chaos exploded.

Jae-hyun didn't hesitate.

He attacked.

A brutal удар—

The gun flew from the man's hand.

Another move—

He slammed him to the ground.

Fury took over.

Pure.

Uncontrolled.

"…You're done."

His voice was no longer calm.

It was dark.

Deadly.

He raised his hand—

Ready to strike again—

"STOP!"

Soo-min's voice echoed.

Everything froze.

Jae-hyun's hand stopped mid-air.

His breathing heavy.

His eyes—

Shaking.

"…Don't," she whispered.

Her voice soft.

But powerful.

"…Please."

Silence filled the room.

The man beneath him laughed weakly.

"…There it is…"

Blood on his lips.

"…He listens to you."

Jae-hyun's expression twisted.

Not anger.

Not rage.

Something deeper.

Conflict.

"…You've already lost," the man continued.

"…You just don't know it yet."

Minutes later—

The fight ended.

The building secured.

Enemies captured.

But victory—

Didn't feel like victory.

Outside—

The night air felt colder.

Soo-min stood quietly.

Jae-hyun beside her.

Neither speaking.

"…You hesitated," she finally said.

A pause.

"…Because of you."

Her chest tightened.

"…Is that a bad thing?"

Silence.

"…In my world…"

He looked at her.

"…yes."

Her eyes softened slightly.

"…Then maybe your world needs to change."

A faint breeze passed between them.

"…Or maybe…"

He looked away.

"…you do."

Far away—

The man sat in a dark room.

Injured.

But smiling.

"…Everything is going exactly as planned."

A pause.

"…He's already breaking."

Back under the night sky—

Two people stood.

Closer than before.

But also—

More fragile.

Because now—

They both knew—

This wasn't just survival anymore.

This was war.

Between—

Power…

And heart.
