Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Lines That Shouldn’t Blur

The atmosphere at Crestwood Elite Academy had shifted.

Not drastically.

Not in a way that everyone could point out.

But subtly… undeniably.

And at the center of it—

Aaryan Raizada.

It had only been a few days.

Yet his name had already started settling into conversations like it belonged there.

Not because he tried.

But because he didn't.

As Aaryan walked into the classroom, the usual whispers followed.

But this time—

They didn't feel the same.

They carried curiosity.

Interest.

And something else…

Expectation.

"Look who's here."

Tara's voice came instantly.

Aaryan didn't even need to look.

"You say that every day."

"Because you keep showing up every day," she shot back with a grin.

Aaryan placed his bag down calmly. "That's usually how school works."

Tara blinked.

Then laughed. "You're getting funnier."

Rhea leaned against the desk beside them.

"You've officially become the most talked-about person in class."

Aaryan sat down. "That sounds like a problem."

"It is," Rhea said. "For you."

"And why is that?"

She smiled slightly.

"Because now people are watching you."

Aaryan didn't respond.

But his eyes shifted briefly—

Scanning the room.

Noticing the glances.

The subtle attention.

The unspoken curiosity.

Near the window—

Siya sat quietly, flipping a page in her notebook.

Her expression was calm.

Focused.

Unbothered.

But not entirely.

Her eyes lifted—

Just for a second—

Toward Aaryan.

He was talking again.

Tara.

Rhea.

Like always.

She looked back at her notebook.

"…He's always surrounded."

The thought came quietly.

Without intention.

She ignored it.

Class began.

But concentration didn't last long.

"Group activity."

The teacher's voice instantly shifted the mood.

Groans followed.

"You'll be working in pairs," she continued.

"Pick your partners."

The classroom erupted into movement.

Chairs shifted.

Voices overlapped.

People quickly formed groups.

Aaryan remained seated.

Calm.

Unhurried.

Tara immediately turned toward him.

"Partner?"

"Too fast," he replied.

Rhea crossed her arms. "You're not rejecting her, are you?"

"I didn't say that."

"Then say yes."

Aaryan was about to respond—

When—

"Siya, you're with Aaryan."

Silence.

For a brief second—

The entire class paused.

Tara blinked.

Rhea raised an eyebrow.

Kiara looked up.

And Aaryan—

Finally looked toward the teacher.

"I assigned pairs," she added calmly. "Less noise that way."

Aaryan leaned back slightly.

"Convenient."

Across the room—

Siya didn't react immediately.

Her expression remained composed.

But her fingers paused on the page.

"…Of all people."

She closed her notebook.

Stood up.

And walked toward him.

Each step calm.

Controlled.

The seat beside Aaryan felt different when she sat down.

Not tense.

Not awkward.

But not normal either.

Aaryan glanced at her.

"Looks like we're partners."

Siya didn't look at him.

"I heard."

A brief pause.

Then she added—

"Let's just finish the work."

Straightforward.

Efficient.

Aaryan nodded slightly.

"Works for me."

The task was simple on the surface—

Analyze a short case study and present a solution.

But the way they approached it—

Wasn't.

Siya started first.

Clear. Structured. Focused.

Aaryan listened.

Didn't interrupt.

Didn't rush.

When she finished—

He spoke.

"Your approach works."

Siya didn't look up.

"I know."

Aaryan continued—

"But it assumes everyone follows the expected pattern."

That made her pause.

She turned slightly.

"What do you mean?"

Aaryan leaned forward just a bit.

"People don't always act logically."

Siya held his gaze.

"And your point?"

Aaryan picked up the pen.

Adjusted one part of the solution.

Just slightly.

"If you change this variable…"

he said calmly,

"the outcome shifts completely."

Siya looked at it.

Carefully.

Her brows furrowed.

"…That's not wrong."

Aaryan didn't respond.

She studied the paper again.

Longer this time.

Then—

"…It's better."

The words came quietly.

Almost reluctantly.

Aaryan noticed.

But didn't react.

Instead, he said—

"Your base was strong."

Siya looked at him.

That wasn't what she expected.

Most people—

Either tried to outshine her.

Or agreed with her.

This—

Was neither.

"…You don't try to prove yourself, do you?"

she asked.

Aaryan's expression stayed calm.

"No."

"Why?"

A small pause.

Then—

"Because I don't need to."

That answer—

Didn't feel like arrogance.

Which made it more confusing.

Siya looked away slightly.

"…You're strange."

Aaryan replied instantly—

"You noticed."

For a brief moment—

A very faint smile touched her lips.

It disappeared just as quickly.

But it was there.

From across the room—

Tara was watching.

"Something's happening," she whispered.

Rhea smirked slightly.

"Definitely."

Kiara observed quietly.

No reaction.

But full attention.

As the activity ended—

The teacher collected their work.

"Good coordination," she commented after a glance.

Siya nodded.

Aaryan didn't say anything.

But as she stood up—

She paused.

Just for a second.

"…You're not as annoying as I thought."

Aaryan looked at her.

"And you're not as uninterested as you act."

Their eyes met.

For a moment—

Something unspoken passed between them.

Then—

She walked away.

Calm.

Composed.

But her steps—

Were just slightly slower than before.

Aaryan watched her go.

Then leaned back in his chair.

A faint smile appeared.

"…Interesting."

Because for the first time—

The line between indifference and attention…

Had blurred.
