Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The unexpected meeting

The rain poured heavily over the city that evening, turning the streets into a blur of shimmering lights and reflections. People rushed along the sidewalks, holding umbrellas and trying to escape the sudden storm.

Lina Evans stood under the small roof of a bus stop, clutching her worn handbag tightly.

Her brown hair was slightly damp from the rain, and her shoes were soaked from running through puddles.

It had been a long and exhausting day.

She had spent the entire afternoon going from one office building to another, hoping to find a job. Unfortunately, every place gave her the same answer.

"We'll call you."

But Lina knew what that meant.

No call would come.

She sighed softly and sat down on the cold metal bench. Her stomach growled quietly.

She hadn't eaten since morning because she was trying to save the little money she had left.

"Just a little longer," she whispered to herself. "Something will work out."

The city lights flickered as thunder rolled across the dark sky. The rain only grew heavier.

A few minutes later, a sleek black car suddenly stopped near the bus stop.

It was not the type of car that usually appeared in this neighborhood.

The vehicle looked expensive, polished, and powerful.

Even someone who knew nothing about cars could tell it belonged to someone important.

Lina barely noticed it at first.

She was too busy checking her phone, hoping for any message about a job interview.

But then the car door opened.

A tall man stepped out.

Even under the dim streetlight, Lina could tell he was strikingly handsome. He wore a perfectly tailored dark suit, and his posture carried a quiet authority.

His sharp eyes scanned the street before landing on her.

For a brief moment, their eyes met.

Lina quickly looked away, feeling embarrassed for staring.

The man walked toward the bus stop, his polished shoes barely making a sound against the wet pavement.

Something about him felt different. Powerful. Intimidating.

He stopped a few feet away from her.

Lina could feel his presence even without looking at him.

The silence between them felt strangely heavy.

Then suddenly, the man spoke.

"Are you Lina Evans?"

Lina's head snapped up in shock.

"H-how do you know my name?"

The man studied her carefully before answering.

"Because I've been looking for you."

Her heart skipped a beat.

Looking for her?

That didn't make any sense.

She had never seen this man before in her life.

"I think you must have the wrong person," Lina said nervously.

But the man shook his head.

"No. You're exactly who I'm looking for."

He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small envelope.

"This belongs to you.

"

Lina stared at the envelope in confusion.

"Who are you?"

The man didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he handed her the envelope.

"My name is Adrian Knight."

Lina froze.

The name sounded familiar.

Very familiar.

Her eyes widened as realization slowly hit her.

Adrian Knight.

The billionaire CEO of Knight Enterprises.

One of the most powerful businessmen in the entire city.

His name appeared constantly in news articles and business magazines.

Why would someone like him be standing at a bus stop talking to her?

"This must be a mistake," Lina said quickly, shaking her head.

Adrian's expression remained calm.

"Open it."

Her hands trembled slightly as she opened the envelope.

Inside was a document.

Her eyes moved across the page slowly.

Then suddenly—

Her breath caught.

"This… this is a job offer."

Adrian nodded.

"Yes."

Lina looked up at him in disbelief.

"You're offering me a job?"

"Yes."

"But… why?"

Adrian crossed his arms calmly.

"Because I believe you're the right person."

She laughed nervously.

"You don't even know me."

"Actually," Adrian said quietly, "I know more about you than you think."

That statement made Lina feel uneasy.

"What do you mean?"

Adrian's gaze softened slightly.

"You graduated with top honors from university two years ago."

Her eyes widened.

"You worked part-time jobs to support your mother while she was sick."

Lina felt her throat tighten.

"And after she passed away last year," Adrian continued, "you've been struggling to find stable work."

She stared at him in complete shock.

"How do you know all this?"

Adrian didn't answer right away.

Instead, he simply said,

"I do my research."

The rain continued falling around them.

Cars passed by on the road, their headlights reflecting off the wet pavement.

Lina looked down at the job offer again.

Knight Enterprises.

Personal assistant to the CEO.

The salary listed there was more money than she had ever imagined earning.

"This can't be real," she whispered.

"It is," Adrian replied.

"Why me?"

For a moment, Adrian remained silent.

Then he said something unexpected.

"Because you're honest."

Lina blinked.

"What?"

"Most people in this city are only interested in money or power," Adrian said. "But you're different."

"How would you know that?"

Adrian's lips curved into a faint smile.

"I've been observing you."

That made Lina even more confused.

"Observing me?"

"Yes."

"Why would a billionaire observe someone like me?"

Adrian looked directly into her eyes.

"Because sometimes the most ordinary people are the ones who change everything."

Lina didn't know how to respond.

Everything about this situation felt surreal.

The rain slowly began to lighten.

A bus arrived at the stop, but Lina barely noticed it.

Her entire attention was focused on the man standing in front of her.

Adrian Knight.

One of the most powerful men in the city.

Offering her a job.

It felt like a dream.

"What if I say no?" she asked carefully.

Adrian shrugged slightly.

"Then I'll respect your decision."

"But you won't say no."

His confidence made Lina raise an eyebrow.

"Oh really?"

"Yes."

"And why are you so sure?"

Adrian's eyes held a mysterious glint.

"Because deep down, you know this opportunity could change your life."

Lina looked at the contract again.

He was right.

This job could solve almost all her problems.

But something about the situation still felt strange.

Dangerous, even.

She looked up at him.

"If I accept this job… what exactly would I be doing?"

Adrian stepped closer.

Close enough that Lina could see the intensity in his dark eyes.

"You'll be working directly for me."

Her heart skipped again.

"And trust me," he added quietly.

"Life around me is never boring."

For reasons she couldn't explain, Lina felt both nervous and excited.

Maybe this was fate.

Or maybe this was the beginning of something much more complicated.

Either way, she took a deep breath and looked at Adrian.

"I'll take the job."

For the first time, Adrian smiled.

And somehow, that smile made Lina feel like her life had just changed forever.
