Chapter 44 - 43 No Loose Ends

Chapter 43

No Loose Ends

The office was quiet and peaceful, Victoria was at her desk as she went through company reports and documents.

Managing the company wasn't an easy feat but she'd put in her utmost effort in it. Father wasn't inclined to patience, especially if he noted any mistakes.

And no mistakes would be made, Victoria decided, her brows clamped together and she focused on the papers with unwavering concentration.

Father had given her control of the company weeks after she'd made Damien discredited. A smile crawled up her face as she recalled the incident.

It'd been so easy doing Damien in, all she'd had to do was bribe a few board members, a few bad suggestions here and there, and voila!

Damien had been relegated to the background by Father in a fit of rage, he'd not spoken a word to Damien for weeks. He'd eventually given Damien one of the newly acquired companies as a form of redemption.

Victoria smiled again, she'd also wrecked his chance of redemption. She'd done it more thoroughly this time, leaving Damien with no chance to overturn the situation.

She'd been more surprised than anyone when she'd found that Damien's shrewd business ideas had almost tripled the company's profits shortly after he'd taken over.

She couldn't have allowed him to continue, so she wrecked him.

And now? Victoria smiled slowly, Damien was finished. She'd not really kept tabs on him but as long as he wasn't in her way, it was fine.

The company had to end up in just one person's grasp. Hers.

Victoria had just finished signing some papers when a knock pierced the silence and the door slid open, it was Frank, one of the staff.

"What's the matter?" Victoria raised a brow, looking up from her work. "I didn't ask you to come here." Victoria sounded displeased, Frank was one of the people she'd planted in the various departments.

She wanted to have a firm grip over all that was going on in the company, Frank and others provided her with information.

"It was urgent," Frank's grim expression made Victoria pause.

"Well, what's the matter?" She demanded, keeping her pen aside.

"It's—" Frank hesitated, "It's the Operations Director, he's just met with a man. He calls himself Luther—"

"What!" Victoria's eyes narrowed and the atmosphere became chilly. Luther was here? Behind her back no less, it couldn't be a cordial visit.

"Did you hear anything?" Victoria asked, the gears in her head already shifting as she tried to think of how to cope with this sudden happening.

"I didn't," Frank's answer disappointed Victoria. "But after he left, the Operations Director set up a meeting with the other directors. They should be meeting…" Frank glanced at the clock. "A few minutes ago."

"Hmph!" Victoria's expression became steadily worse as Frank's words sank in. She knew the operations director—Davies, smart and cunning, and more importantly, he'd been made director under Damien's watch.

"Thank you, Frank," Victoria smiled suddenly. "I'll take it from here," she said, dismissing him. Frank stared at her for a moment before he nodded, retreating out of the office.

Victoria sat silently for one long moment before she took out her cell phone and dialed a number, she'd had this number for ages but had never called. Luther and his gang left her no choice.

"Hello," a quiet voice spoke over the line, it was obviously masked to hide the gender of the speaker.

"I have a job," Victoria went straight to the point. "I need you to take care of some people for me," she got to her feet and walked to the floor-to-ceiling glass, staring out at the view.

"Take care of…" the voice repeated. "Be specific."

"Let's just say, I wouldn't like to hear from them ever again," Victoria's tone was cold, without the slightest hesitation. "I want it to look accidental," Victoria said, explaining further.

There was a long pause on the line before the voice spoke again. "How many people?"

"Uhm," Victoria did a quick headcount, Luther, Fargo, Shawn… She quickly arrived at a number. "Four of them," she said.

"Seven hundred," the voice directly stated a figure.

"Agreed," Victoria didn't even blink at the figure. Her cell phone beeped at that moment and she saw it was a text with an account number.

"Send the money, and text the details of the targets," the voice spoke at that moment, before Victoria could say anything the line went dead.

Luther and his cohorts had the guts to go behind her back? Victoria smiled coldly, she'd warned Luther to not cross her.

But since he had… she had no qualms about making her the last person he'd ever cross.

Within moments she'd typed out the details of Luther and the three other directors she'd bankrolled to betray Damien. She even attached their photos.

She felt no guilt in sentencing these men to die, they deserved it. She couldn't leave any loose ends that could mess things up in the future, Victoria liked her things neat and tidy.

Her cell phone buzzed in her hand at that moment; it was a text from the number she'd dialed.

'Received, targets will be taken down in one week's time frame. Good day.'

Good. A smile tugged at Victoria's lips. Since she was done with that, now onto the next thing. Her eyes became chilled at the thought of those directors, they had the guts to meet behind her back. She could only regret that she couldn't deal with them in a more… permanent way.

But not like she didn't have a way, Victoria unlocked one of the drawers in her desk and pulled out a file. None of them were aware of the existence of this file.

It carried all their secrets she'd managed to unearth, deep secrets that if revealed, would hurt them a lot.

She'd made counter measures ready, especially for those directors who she knew were sympathetic towards Damien.

This time, Victoria was determined. The company was going to be hers, and no one would stand in her way.
