Chapter 9 - The Chain Breaks

The moment Kael Ardyn touched the chains—

The world screamed.

Not loudly.

Not physically.

But in the way reality bends when something it depends on begins to break.

🔥 THE FIRST CHAIN

Kael's hand pressed against the glowing iron.

The Bloody Sun mark on his arm flared violently.

Red light spread through the chains like fire finding oil.

Crack.

One chain shattered.

The sound echoed across the underground prison like a bell ringing through existence.

Jemila stepped back instantly. "Kael—stop!"

But it was already too late.

Kael didn't hear her properly anymore.

Something inside him had locked onto the chains.

Like they were responding to him.

🐉 THE PRISON REACTS

The cage began to shake.

Not the structure.

The space around it.

Floating chains in the air started to vibrate, as if every seal in the chamber was waking up at once.

The dragon's eye narrowed.

Then—

It spoke again.

YES… THAT IS IT.

Kael gritted his teeth. "I didn't even know I could do this!"

Jemila ran toward him. "You're not supposed to be doing it alone!"

She grabbed his arm—but the moment she touched him—

Her troll mark reacted too.

Both marks ignited.

Kael froze.

"…Why is yours reacting too?"

Jemila looked just as confused for a second.

Then quietly:

"Because whatever you are… I'm linked to it now."

💀 THE SECOND CHAIN BREAKS

Kael pulled again.

The second chain snapped.

A shockwave exploded outward.

The entire prison chamber shook violently.

The Hunter Lord's projection flickered back into existence.

"This is your final warning."

Kael shouted back, "You're a little late!"

The Lord's voice darkened.

"Do you understand what you are releasing?"

Kael paused for half a second.

"…No."

A beat.

"Do YOU?"

Silence.

That answer was worse than any threat.

🩸 THE DRAGON SPEAKS TRUTH

The dragon inside the cage moved for the first time in full.

Massive shadows shifted behind the broken suns.

Its voice filled the chamber again.

I WAS NOT BORN FROM YOUR WORLD.

Kael froze.

Jemila whispered, "What does that mean?"

The dragon continued:

I WAS BEFORE YOUR SYSTEM.

A pause.

BEFORE YOUR BLOODY SUN.

The chamber went silent.

Even Kael stopped moving.

🔥 THE SYSTEM'S FEAR

Far above them—

In a realm Kael had never seen—

The Dark Council trembled.

Lord Malzareth stood frozen.

"…It spoke its name."

Seraphine Morwen whispered, "That thing… is still alive?"

Veydris the Blood Wizard stepped back.

"That creature should not exist anymore."

Malzareth clenched his fist.

"If it awakens fully… then the Ancient Book won't matter anymore."

A silence followed.

Then:

"…We must accelerate the hunt."

🐉 THE THIRD CHAIN

Back inside the prison—

Kael pulled again.

The third chain shattered.

The cage cracked open slightly.

Red light spilled out like blood in water.

Jemila grabbed Kael's shoulder hard.

"Stop now! You're releasing something you don't understand!"

Kael finally turned to her.

"I don't understand anything in this world!"

A pause.

His voice lowered.

"But I know one thing."

Jemila froze.

Kael looked at the cage.

"If they fear it this much…"

He clenched his fist.

"…then I need it."

💀 THE MOMENT OF RELEASE

The dragon exhaled.

The entire prison dimmed.

And then—

All remaining chains shattered at once.

BOOM.

A wave of energy exploded outward.

Kael and Jemila were thrown backward violently.

The cage collapsed.

The broken suns disintegrated into dust.

And in the center—

The dragon began to rise.

🐉 FIRST FORM REVEAL

Not fully visible.

Not fully physical.

But enough.

A colossal silhouette unfolded in the darkness.

Eyes like burning moons.

Wings that blocked out space itself.

And a voice that no longer whispered—

But commanded.

AT LAST…

Kael struggled to stand. "We did it…"

Jemila grabbed his arm immediately. "No."

Kael looked at her. "What?"

Her expression was serious.

"…We didn't free it."

A pause.

"We awakened it."

🔥 THE CHOICE IS MADE

The dragon looked directly at Kael.

Not at Jemila.

Only Kael.

Its voice was calm now.

Almost… curious.

YOU ARE NOT THEM.

Kael frowned. "What?"

The dragon continued:

YOU CARRY THE SUN… BUT IT DOES NOT OWN YOU.

Silence.

Jemila stepped slightly forward.

"Kael… something's wrong."

Kael didn't answer.

Because for the first time—

He wasn't scared.
