Chapter 9 - CHAPTER NINE(Villain Era Begins — “You should be afraid of me now.”)

I didn't reply the message.

Not immediately.

Not because I was scared.

But because I was thinking.

"You don't know the truth about why Daniel left."

"If you did… you wouldn't be so calm."

I read it again.

And again.

And again.

Each time, it hit differently.

Not emotionally.

Strategically.

Because whoever sent this…

Knew something.

And more importantly?

They wanted me to react.

I smiled slowly, placing my phone down.

"Wrong move," I whispered.

Because I don't react anymore.

I observe.

The next morning, I didn't go looking for answers.

I let them come to me.

And just like I expected…

They did.

"Amara."

I didn't need to turn around.

I already knew who it was.

Daniel.

Of course.

I continued walking, my steps steady, unbothered.

"Amara, please."

That word again.

Please.

Funny.

He never used to beg.

Now he couldn't stop.

I finally stopped walking—but I didn't turn.

"Five seconds," I said calmly. "Say what you want."

Silence.

Then—

"I can't do this without you."

I almost laughed.

Almost.

Slowly… I turned.

And the moment our eyes met…

I saw it.

He looked different.

Tired.

Restless.

Like he hadn't slept.

Like he hadn't been okay.

Good.

"You're doing it already," I replied simply.

His brows pulled together. "What?"

"Living without me."

The words were soft.

But sharp enough to cut.

"I'm not living," he said, stepping closer. "I'm surviving."

I tilted my head slightly.

"Dramatic."

"Amara, I'm serious—"

"And I'm not interested."

That stopped him.

Completely.

A small crowd passed around us, but the tension between us stayed locked.

Unmoving.

Heavy.

"You said you loved me," he said quietly.

"I did."

The past tense.

Intentional.

Precise.

His expression shifted.

That one word hit him harder than anything else.

"Did?" he repeated.

I stepped closer this time.

Not emotionally.

Strategically.

"You taught me something, Daniel," I said, my voice low. "Timing matters."

His eyes searched mine, panic slowly creeping in.

"And you?" I continued. "You were too late."

"Then give me another chance," he said quickly. "I'll fix it. I'll do whatever it takes—"

I smiled.

Soft.

Beautiful.

Dangerous.

"And that," I whispered, "is exactly why I won't."

Before he could respond—

"Daniel?"

A familiar voice cut in.

We both turned.

Her.

The girl from the beach.

She walked up slowly, her eyes moving between us, confusion written all over her face.

"What's going on?"

Perfect.

I stepped back slightly, giving them space.

But my eyes stayed on Daniel.

Watching.

Measuring.

"Nothing," Daniel said quickly. "It's just—"

"Not nothing," I cut in smoothly.

Both of them looked at me.

And for the first time…

I had control.

I crossed my arms slightly, my expression calm.

"You should probably tell her the truth."

Daniel's face changed instantly.

"Amara—"

"What?" I shrugged lightly. "Honesty is important, right?"

The girl frowned. "Tell me what?"

Silence.

Thick.

Tense.

Breaking.

And that's when I saw it.

Fear.

In Daniel's eyes.

Interesting.

I smiled again.

Slow.

Knowing.

Dangerous.

"Don't worry," I said softly, stepping back. "You'll figure it out."

Then I turned.

And walked away.

But this time?

I wasn't leaving empty.

I was leaving with power.

Later that night…

I finally replied the unknown number.

"Let's talk."

The response came instantly.

Like they had been waiting.

"Tomorrow. 6PM."

"Come alone."

I stared at the message for a few seconds.

Then smiled.

"Of course," I whispered.

"Let's play."

But across town…

Daniel wasn't calm.

Not even close.

"Who was she?" the girl asked, her voice sharp now.

Daniel ran a hand through his hair, pacing slightly.

"It's complicated."

"Then simplify it."

Silence.

Because how do you explain…

That the girl you let go…

Is the one you can't live without?

"She's not just anyone," he said finally.

The girl's expression hardened. "Clearly."

Daniel stopped pacing.

His jaw tightened.

His mind racing.

Because something about today…

Didn't feel right.

Amara wasn't just moving on.

She was planning something.

And for the first time since he met her…

Daniel felt it.

Fear.

Back in my room…

I stared at my reflection again.

But this time?

I smiled.

"Let's see how deep this goes…" I whispered.
