Cherreads

Chapter 1 - the survivors

A car drives through the fog. Bare trees stand on both sides. A renovated wooden house appears at the end of the road.

Dani: This was your grandmother's house.

Alex: I know… it looks like it's watching me.

Dani opens the door.

Dani: Come on, let's go inside.

As they walk toward the door, the wind grows stronger. For a moment, the curtain in the upstairs window shifts—like someone just moved behind it.

Inside, the air is cold. Dust glitters in narrow rays of light. A huge portrait of her grandmother hangs from the wall. Her eyes seem to follow them.

Alex: This photo looks straight out of a horror or haunted house.

Dani: What do you want to say? It's an old house.

Alex: You know this house is very old. How can we live here?

Dani: You know, Alex, after your father died, we didn't have much money. We got it repaired.

Alex: It is old but looks new… but old is old.

Dani: Old is old, but old things definitely come in handy at some point. After all, this is your home now. It's better to start again in our own home than keep paying rent.

Alex: That's why money is important.

Alex goes into a room and falls asleep.

Next Part

Dani explores the house before night. Her flashlight flickers once, twice, then goes out.

When Dani turns around, After that, she goes to Alex's room and sleeps.

Next Morning

Sunlight filters through the window. Alex wakes up to the smell of breakfast—eggs, toast, and coffee on the table.

Dani: Good morning, sleepyhead.

Alex: Good morning, mom.

Alex gets ready and goes to freshen up. When she turns on the tap, the water starts dark brown, thick, and murky.

Alex: What the hell is that?!

Dani (from kitchen): Oh, it's just the tank. I filled some water last night… maybe it wasn't clean yet.

Alex shakes her head, irritated.

Alex: Mom, we need to fix that water. It's gross.

A few minutes later, Alex grabs her bag and car keys.

Dani: Be careful, okay? Your school's far—don't rush.

Alex: It's fine. I'll meet Milly on the way.

School Scene

She steps out. The old elm brushes her face. The road stretches ahead. She takes one last look at the house before leaving.

In class, the history period is on.

Teacher: The European Civil War of 1860…

Alex stares out the window. Sunlight flickers across her face. She notices Milly beside her, stretching quietly.

The bell rings—lunch break.

Students leave, laughing and chatting.

At the lunch table:

Milly: So, you moved? Mom said you were going to some old family house.

Alex: Yeah… it's kind of far, outside town. Grandma's place.

Milly: I didn't know your grandma still lived there.

Alex (pauses): I'm… not sure if she still does. Mom doesn't—.talk about how much [past] but the house feels like she never really left.

Milly: "Haha, creepy old houses always have flickering lights and creaky floors."

Alex: (laughs nervously) "Something like that."

(Milly laughs, but Alex's smile fades just a little—her eyes drift, lost in thought. The background sound lowers; faint wind hums almost like a whisper.)

(Bell ring — class over. As they start packing their bags...)

Milly: "Hey, weekend's coming. My parents are out till Monday. How about I stay at your place or home? We can study or get haunted together."

Alex: (smiles) "You're crazy. But sure, it would be fun, I guess."

(Both laugh. The background fades into a distant, echoing school bell—but there's a faint, unnatural hum, almost like someone whispered Alex's name.)

(School Parking Lot – Late Afternoon)

School has just ended. Alex walks toward her Ford car—a simple dark grey model, slightly dirty but reliable. Milly tosses her bag in the back seat with a grin.

Milly: (smiling) "So this is your ride now? I didn't know ghosts preferred Fords."

Alex: (laughs)

Page 2: The Drive

"Better than walking through those creepy roads."

(Alex starts the engine. The car hums to life, the late sun glinting off the windshield.)

Alex: "It really needs a service or something; sounds like it's possessed."

Milly: (teasing) "Perfect for your haunted house vibe."

(Milly chuckles)

(A dark grey Ford rolls down a narrow countryside road, the tires crunching over gravel.)

Alex drives Milly home first, but Milly says she doesn't want to stay home after hearing you lived in a haunted house and decides to go with Alex to her house instead.

That gives a natural reason for Milly to stay at Alex's home.

The golden light of sunset fades behind thick clouds as wind rustles through the tall grass. Inside the car, Alex drives, her eyes tired but focused. Milly sits beside her, scrolling reels on Instagram.

Alex: "You're sure you don't wanna stay at your home tonight?"

Milly: "Yes, because I don't want to stay home. Tomorrow my parents go on a trip, remember? I don't wanna be alone in that big empty house. Can I crash at yours?"

(Alex smiling)

"Mom won't mind."

The car turns into a quiet lane lined with old oaks. They pass Milly's house—lights off, curtains drawn. Milly looks out the window and shivers slightly.

Milly: "See? Totally haunted vibes. Let's go to your place instead."

Alex laughs, starts the car again, and drives off toward her grandmother's house.

(Scene: Late Evening or Night)

The Ford rolls onto a mud road. The headlights cut through mist and shadow. Ahead, the house stands—tall, dark, yet unsettlingly still.

A faint light flickers in the attic.

Milly: "Did you leave a light on?"

Alex: (confused) "No... Mom must've checked it."

They pull up at the main gate. The wood creaks loudly as Alex pushes it open. Inside, the air feels colder. The faint smell of polish and old wood lingers. Dani greets them warmly from the kitchen.

Dani: "You girls must be so tired. Go settle in—dinner will be ready soon."

Alex: "Thanks, Mom!"

Page 4: The Exploration

The girls climb the stairs to the guest room. Both curtains... A new bedspread. Everything neat—but the air feels too still. On the wall hangs an old family photo—a woman neither of them recognize, staring directly at the camera.

Milly: "Who's that? She looks kinda... alive."

Alex: "No idea. Maybe grandmother or someone Mom never told me about."

They laugh nervously. Downstairs, Dani hums softly while the wind taps against the windows.

Dani: "You girls go explore. Dinner's almost ready."

Alex: "OKAY, MOM."

Alex and Milly wander through the house—curious and excited. They peek into rooms filled with half-open cupboards, a piano covered in a white sheet, and old photographs on the wall.

Milly: "This place is so quiet. Feels like time stopped here."

Alex: "Yeah... or like it's waiting for something."

They laugh nervously. Then Alex steps onto a wooden board. It creaks loudly beneath her foot.

Milly: "Hey, careful!"

Before Alex can move, the wood snaps with a crack.

She gasps as the floor gives way.

Crash!

Alex falls through, disappearing into darkness below.

Milly: (screaming) "Alex!"

Milly runs forward to the hole, kneeling down, dust rising around her.

Milly: "Alex?! Are you okay?"

Silence. Her voice echoes through the empty house. Then—nothing. Only the faint sound of the wind outside and the slow creak of the broken floorboard.

Milly's face freezes in fear as the camera pulls back, showing the dark hole in the floor, wide and silent..
