Chapter 40 - The goddess

You look directly at the King, your voice calm, clear, and carrying that faint cosmic echo that makes the entire throne room feel smaller.

"We want nothing from your kingdom. We will live here as we please. Stay out of our way, and there will be peace. Interfere with me, my brother, Mira, or Liora… and there will be consequences."

The King sits frozen on his throne, sweat beading on his forehead. The nobles are deathly silent. The four otherworldly heroes look like they want to disappear. No one dares speak.

You turn to your group.

"Let's go."

Without another word, without bowing, without any show of respect, the four of you turn and walk out of the throne room. The royal guards part instantly, none brave enough to block your path. Mira walks at your right, Lukas at your left with Liora beside him. The heavy palace doors close behind you with a dull thud.

The moment you step outside into the sunlight, the capital is already buzzing louder than ever with rumors of what just happened.

Meanwhile, in the Divine Realm:

The Goddess stood in the center of the celestial hall, golden energy crackling around her like lightning, her face twisted with fury.

"I will crush them! That genie and his pathetic brother dared humiliate my blessed heroes! I will—"

"Stop!"

The God of Flame stepped forward, his eternal fire dimmed with visible fear.

"You don't understand. That being… Grim… he is not a normal summoned hero. When you tried to erase him, your full power did nothing. He nullified it like it was a breeze. He threatened to erase you from existence — and we all felt he could actually do it."

The Goddess of Water added urgently, her voice trembling:

"He is far more powerful than any of us. He wished for the exact powers of a True Genie. Unlimited reality bending. He granted his brother Cosmic Lord status in an instant. We saw it. Please… do not provoke him."

The God of Blacksmith gripped his hammer tightly. "Even we gods felt terror when he spoke. If you attack him or his brother, he will come for you. He already warned you once."

The Goddess of Love, usually gentle, looked pale. "Sister… please. This is not a fight you can win."

The Goddess clenched her fists, eyes blazing with rage and pride.

"I was once a reincarnated soul too — summoned just like them! I rose to become the Goddess of this world! I refuse to bow or hide from some mortal who stole genie power!"

She turned away from them, voice cold and resolute.

"Watch me. I will deal with them myself. I will find a way to weaken him, turn the kingdom against him, or summon something even the genie cannot stop. No one defies me and walks away unscathed."

The other gods exchanged uneasy glances but said nothing more. They knew trying to physically stop her now would be pointless… and dangerous.

Back in the capital, you and your group walk peacefully through the streets. Mira stays close to your side, tail occasionally brushing your hand. Lukas looks calmer than ever, Liora walking loyally beside him, her new clothes shimmering.

Lukas glances at you.

"Big brother… that felt good. The King looked like he was about to faint. What do we do now? Find an inn? Explore more? Or… something else?"

Mira leans in and whispers softly, "The Goddess is likely furious right now, my lord. I can feel divine eyes watching from above. Should we prepare for anything?"

The capital continues its normal life around you, but the rumors about "the powerful Fifth Hero and his mysterious companions" are spreading like wildfire.
