Coleridge Group was hiring.
Zara found out that same Day at about six in the evening. She had spent forty minutes on their website, reading everything carefully. Twice.
There were three open positions.
She wasn't qualified for two of them.
The third one was Junior Coordinator, Operations she could qualify for… if she adjusted her CV a little.
Which she was ready to do.
She read the job description four times.
Then she opened a blank document.
And stared at it a couple times, blinking really hard,
She hadn't updated her CV in two years.
The last one still had a job she quit after one Month. It described her as "a dynamic team player with excellent communication skills."
Reading it now made her want to lie flat on the floor.
So she deleted everything.
And started again.
This was new for Azara. as she couldn't believe ounce again she was back on the hunt for a job.
Usually, she put in the smallest effort possible and hoped her personality would carry her through.
But something had changed.
She kept thinking about that video.
"I don't believe in luck. I believe in systems."
She thought… what if I actually try?
Just once...
She worked for three hours without stopping.
When Nkechi came home for lunch, she saw Azara sitting at the table with a notebook, highlighters, and printed papers.
She stopped at the door.
"Are you… studying?"
"The operations structure of Coleridge Group," Azara said, without looking up. "Their annual report is online. I'm learning how their logistics connects to real estate. Just in case."
"In case who asks?"
"The interviewers."
Silence.
"You applied somewhere?"
"This morning. Junior Coordinator, Operations." Azara looked up. "There are two interview stages. I'm preparing for the questions."
Nkechi slowly sat down.
"Why this company?"
Azara kept her face straight. "Good growth. Matches my skills."
Nkechi narrowed her eyes. "Azara."
"What?"
"Is this about the man on the wall?"
There were now six photos on the wall.
Azara went back to her notes. "I don't know what you mean."
"There are six pictures..."
"I'm preparing for an interview, Nkechi. Please let me focus."
Nkechi looked at the wall again.
Picked up her tea.
And said nothing.
The interview email came four days later.
Azara read it in the kitchen.
Then she sat on the floor because her legs suddenly felt weak.
She got a time slot.
Thursday. 10am. Coleridge Group headquarters, Victoria Island.
She called Nkechi immediately.
"Nkechi, I got an interview. Can you just be happy for me?"
Another pause.
Then Nkechi laughed. A real laugh.
"Okay. I'm happy for you. I really am. You've studied more this week than I've seen in five years."
"Three years."
"Five!!!
Azara looked at the wall.
At his face. The city lights behind him.
She didn't know if she would ever meet him.
She didn't even know what he sounded like in real life.
She knew almost nothing about him.
But on Thursday, she would walk into his building wearing her best blazer.
She would get that job.
And she would figure everything else out from inside.
"I don't believe in luck," she thought.
"I believe in systems."
And for the first time…
She believed in systems too.
