Chapter 1 - The Cycle Begins

Lin Eryan opened his eyes to the same gray sky he had seen countless times before. Rain slicked streets stretched endlessly around him, but he didn't remember how he got here. Not yet. Memory always came back slowly – like water seeping through cracks in stone.

He wandered the familiar streets, though every detail felt alien. And then, through the fog, he saw her: Selira Veyne.

Her hair shone like silver threads in the dim light, and her eyes… those eyes, that sharp, gentle gaze, pierced through the fog clouding his mind. He didn't yet remember her name, but he knew the ache in his chest, a hollow void that had been empty for centuries, suddenly screamed alive.

Lin… Her voice, soft and trembling, called his name as if it had been carved into her soul.

Something broke inside him. He remembered fragments: laughter shared under starlit skies, hands entwined in fleeting warmth, whispers of promises he could never keep. And then, a flash—pain, unbearable, sharp. He remembered too late: she had three days. Always three days. After that, she would vanish, and he would be left alone again.

No… not again, he murmured, clutching his chest as the memories – fleeting, jarring– rushed back.

Selira reached out. Her hand brushed his cheek, and he felt the warmth of what he had lost countless times. Every touch, every heartbeat, was precious. He pulled her close, ignoring the storm around them. For a moment, the world didn't exist.

Why… why does it always end like this he whispered.

I don't know, she said, her tears glinting in the dim rain. But we have… we have three days. We must live them.

Three days. That was all they had. A cruel countdown etched into their souls. Lin had tried before – countless times – to break the cycle. He had defied gods, shattered realms, rewritten fate itself. Each time, he failed. Each time, she died. Each time, his memory faded.

Yet here he was, with the pain returned in full force, memory searing him like fire: he would love her, he would lose her, and then he would wait for the cycle to begin again.

He looked at her, his Selira Veyne, and promised silently: This time, I will try everything. I will find a way. Even if it takes a million deaths, a million rebirths… I will not let you slip away.

She smiled, fragile but radiant. "Then let's make these three days count," she said.

And so, the cycle began.

Three days. One lifetime compressed into seventy-two hours. Every heartbeat a rebellion against the inevitable. Every smile a defiance of fate. Every touch a declaration: Even if the world takes you, I will never stop remembering.

But deep down, Lin knew the truth: even love eternal could not escape the cruel calculus of the cycle.

And as the first day faded, he felt the sting of a memory he would soon forget – her name, her face, her laughter – etched into his soul, only to vanish, until the cycle brought them together again.
