Chapter 93 - Silver Moonlight

It was evening.

Nearly half a day going to the bureau all the way to the hospital. Now, were finally returning home to the Flower Manor. Maine, who stood beside me, suddenly questions me.

"Lady Roxy, I have to tell you something."

"Maine?"

Maine shook his head like it was nothing, suddenly raises it mouth to me. A singular question was heard.

"Lady Roxy, why did you joined the guild in the first place?"

As that one single question in mind, I suddenly recalled all my past events from the guild. It all started when White and I proposed a duel, because of my practice and my kendo abilities from my past life. I've won. I won the duel and White gave me a chance to join the guild once again, I became a vice-leader shortly after.

Ever since I joined a guild, my life turned upside down. I was involved in dangerous missions just for the sake of their safety. The Castle Libra raid gives me memories to this day. The grueling search for Cassius also triggered me goosebumps, all of them risks my life. My life of surviving. It's better to discharge as an adventurer for now on.

Then I turned back to Maine, asking the same question all over again. There, I became serious and lend out an answer.

"Because I was special."

Ever since I reincarnated into this world, the gods gave me a human skill, a weak appraisal skill known as Inspect. The only thing I knew that the soul of Roxanne Albatross gave me the Blood Curse, a system-like skill that makes me stronger everytime I consumed blood. I was the first person to ever carry this power. It seemed useless at first, but when I progresses further, it made a trump card that shapes my life.

Then Maine replied.

"Special? Is it your human skill, or your swordsmanship?"

"No, it's something else."

"Lady Roxy, tell me."

I let out a deep breath and began talking.

"I wanted to be special, Maine. In my life in this world, I am always the odd one, my older brother was a luminous knight and my older sister is a healer. I didn't have those, I was a nobody, I was nothing to them, I'm more than just an appraiser. But fate gave me a chance, a chance to get a better life, an opportunity that will embed my soul forever. I wanted to become an adventurer, Maine. I wanted to be free."

As I poured all my heart out in this wonderful message, I began to think to myself, is this a simulation or what? All of this felt like a dream or some sort. Maybe I was in time dilation? Or, maybe the accident was just a hologram. Swirling my thoughts in my head like a blender.

There I tilted my head in Maine, I turned to ask him a question.

"Maine, can you tell me about your life? I only know you as my scrawny roommate. Please, tell me."

I lent out a cute face towards Maine, his dark circles widened and he had no choice but to tell him everything he had.

Maine looked up as his past. His dark circles were really noticeable as he stared at me silently telling me to keep going.

He started to talk in a calm and peculiar tone.

"I did not have a lot of money when I was growing up. My life was simple. My father raised me by himself in a world that was very tough. My mother died when I was born so it was my father and me. My father was a man who liked to go on adventures. He was a fighter. He really wanted me to be like him. He wanted me to be an adventurer too. I also wanted to be free, Like you, Lady Roxy"

Maine laughed a little. Shook his head.

"I was not really good at the things my father wanted me to do. I did not like fighting or going on adventures. I liked to read and learn things. I liked to figure out how things worked. Reading was what made me happy."

His eyes got a little wider. It was like I understood what he was saying.

"I wanted to make my father proud. That was all that mattered to me. So I joined the Yellow Flower Guild. I thought that if I was going to be an adventurer I would do it my way. I spent all my time reading old books and I actually learned how to use a sword really quickly. It was not because I was good at fighting. Because I approached it like a study. I looked at the way the sword moved and the rhythm of it."

I looked at Maine, who was not moving at all. He had forgotten about his work, for the moment.

"I did all of this for my father Lady Roxy. I became the adventurer he wanted me to be. I never stopped being the person who just liked to read quietly."

Maine admirals looked at them just like me, raised as a simple life as a commoner and set free from the life of misery and guilt, his dark eyes said. It was not a joke. It was a reality check for Maine

The night was really cool and calm around us as we stood in front of the big manor gates. The full moon was shining like a coin above us making the whole place look spooky and pretty at the same time. The shadows on the ground looked like they were reaching out to us.

"It is a night, the kind of night that makes you forget about everything."

Maine was not looking at the sky. He was standing next to me. Looking at me instead. When I turned to look at him his eyes were fixed on me, I can tell that he was fascinated wierd eyes, my very own heterochomatic eyes. The moonlight made his face look softer. It was his eyes that really caught my attention. He took a step closer to me. My heart started beating faster.

"It is beautiful. To be honest Lady Roxy you are even more beautiful than the moon. You shine like the moonlight in the sky." Maine said, his voice low and smooth.

His words really surprised me. I felt like I had been hit hard. My face got really hot and I stumbled backward trying to cover my face with my hands.

"You, Maine. Are you trying to flirt with me?" I said, my voice shaking.

Maine looked surprised when he saw my reaction. He looked like he was panicking. His face turned red. He stumbled backward rubbing the back of his neck and looking away from me.

"I did not mean to, I was just caught up in the moment. I did not think before I spoke." he said, stuttering.

We just stood there looking at each other both of us feeling really awkward. The silence was uncomfortable. Then the big doors of the manor. The sound echoed through the courtyard.

Two maids were standing in the doorway. The warm light, from inside made them look like silhouettes. They looked at us. They could see how embarrassed we were. They were. They looked happy.

"Perfect timing," one of the maids said, curtsying.

"Miera? Kiera?"

"Dinner is ready. We were waiting for you two to come in."
