Chapter 153 - The Wedding

[Angy's POV]

The sky was really, really blue.

I used to hate looking out of windows. Back at my old house, the sky was always a yucky grey color that looked like old dishwater. It always smelled smoky and like grown-up drinks.

Our old house was always too quiet. I didn't tell anyone but it made my tummy hurt and I hid under my blanky.

I used to walk super, super carefully around there. Especially near those tall, shiny wooden stairs. I was always scared of slipping and falling.

Or worse, making my dad mad.

But there were no scary stairs here.

And the sky didn't smell smoky anymore. It smelled like fresh rain, sweet flowers, and my favourite warm grass.

I leaned my elbows over the smooth white railing of the balcony and looked out at the brand-new world my big brother made for us.

It had been three whole months since I woke up.

I remembered floating in a warm sleep for a really, really long time. Then, two pretty ladies told me it was time to wake up and go home. One lady smelled like tulips, and the other one smelled like a sunflower.

And when I opened my eyes, my big brother Johnny was there.

He was crying a lot. That was super weird, because Johnny always tried to act tough. He held me so tight I thought my bones were going to squeak! He cried so much his shirt got all wet, and he just kept saying my name over and over again like our old speaker.

Johnny sat by my bed for a whole week after that. He held my hand and told me a lot of crazy stuff happened while I was asleep.

He said there were evil aliens, magic tickets, and a giant dragon that fixed the whole world. I thought he was just telling me a bedtime story like he used to when he was little.

But then he opened the curtains and showed me the window.

The city down below didn't look like the boring concrete blocks from before. It looked like a secret level from one of Johnny's old video games!

The buildings were made of shiny white glass. Massive green vines wrapped around them like giant jungle gyms, and the fruits on them actually glowed in the dark! Cars didn't have wheels anymore, they just floated on tracks that looked like solid sunshine.

Johnny called it a "So-lar Punk" world. I didn't know what a punk was, but I just thought it looked like a super huge magical treehouse.

He also told me that the people down there were really sad and scared for a while. He said some scary monsters had attacked the planet, and he had to help fix their brains. He called it "re-hab-il-ee-tay-shun." It was a really long word.

But when I looked down at the parks, nobody looked scared.

People were having picnics and kids like me were playing all kind of games. Johnny said a magic 80s song and some really, really good milk made all their bad dreams go away. They remembered the scary stuff, but it didn't make them want to hide under their beds anymore.

"Miss Angy?"

I turned around from the balcony.

Sitting on the big plush chair inside my room was Nakime. She was Johnny's girlfriend, and she was super pretty. She had long black hair that went up to her waist and had these cute pink eyes.

She was the one who bought me this dress.

She smiled at me, holding up a little blue ribbon. "Are you ready for me to finish your hair?"

"Yes please, Big Sis!" I said, running over and sitting on the floor in front of her. She was always so gentle and carefully braided my blonde hair down my back and tucked little blue flowers inside it, tying it all together with the soft blue ribbon around my waist.

Standing in the hallway outside my room was Mr. Neel.

He was wearing a super shiny, black suit. It looked really stiff like cardboard. He had a glowing glass screen floating right in the air in front of his face, and a blue cartoon man was talking to him on it.

"I want the flying cameras up high!" Neel was yelling. He was talking super fast, exactly like the busy businessmen on TV. "We own everything now! The energy, the medicine, the toys! Except for the media. So we're going to broadcast this wedding to the whole galaxy! Charge the aliens double and tell them if they want to watch Satoru—the vanquisher of the Viltrumites—get married, they have to pay for the super-premium-package!"

Mr. Neel swiped the floating screen away and let out a big sigh. He rubbed his eyes like he had a headache.

Then, he looked down at me.

His grumpy businessman face was gone and he smiled so big his cheeks scrunched up.

I was wearing a fluffy white dress with a soft blue ribbon tied around my waist. My hair was braided down my back with little blue flowers tucked inside it.

Sitting right next to me, glowing with green light around his lines, was Ship.

Ship was this space alien that looked like a green and black blob made out of shiny metal. Johnny said Ship spent the last three months in outer space, eating the giant spaceships of those aliens that attacked our world like they were dog treats so he could get super strong.

But today, Ship was wearing a tiny, green tuxedo with a little black bowtie!

"Ship! Ship!" he barked happily, wagging his metal tail so hard he knocked over a lamp.

Mr. Neel stared at us for a long time, before pulling the glowing screen back up.

"Maulers, cancel the TV show," Neel ordered.

"But boss?!" the blue cartoon man with a 'II' written on his face squeaked. He jumped up and down and waved his arms in a panic. "The money! We're going to waste trillions of space dollars!"

"I don't care," Neel growled. His voice dropped super low and scary, like a bear. "I don't want a bunch of weird aliens and creepy space guys staring at my niece. Who knows what kind of perverts are out there? Turn the cameras off and give them their money back. If anyone complains, tell them I'll send the Ant King to their house to bite their heads off."

He hung up, and the screen popped like a soap bubble.

Neel smiled a really nice, soft smile and walked over to gently pat my head. "You look like a princess, kiddo. Come on. The wedding is starting soon, and we don't want to keep your brother waiting."

I grabbed Ship's metal leash -even though he didn't really need one- and followed Uncle Neel out of the room.

We walked down the giant halls of Johnny's new Home, which he said was actually smaller than the last castle of his. We stepped out into a huge garden that was filled with warm sunlight.

The wedding was for Satoru and Mary. Johnny said they didn't want a huge party with strangers or news reporters, so only our weird and crazy family was here.

As soon as we stepped onto the grass, I heard two loud voices arguing.

"I told you to adjust the bass on the speakers, you clone! Not the treble!"

"I did adjust it! If I were the original, I would've known how a simple equalizer works!"

Standing behind a giant DJ table covered in wires were two bald blue men. Johnny called them the Mauler Twins. They were wearing giant headphones and pushing buttons on a mixing board, grumbling about how they were super-geniuses being forced to do wedding lights. But every time a pretty song played correctly, they both smiled secretly.

'Johnny called them Tsun-de-res, right? What does that even mean? Is it a type of blue alien?'

"Ah. Angela. Right on time."

Standing behind a long table full of cupcakes and cookies was Mr. Nolan.

Johnny said he used to be a super scary alien called Omni-Man who conquered planets and fought gods.

But he didn't look scary at all!

He was wearing a clean red and white tuxedo! He looked kind of funny and naked without his fuzzy Mustache from those old photos of his, like a turtle without a shell. Johnny said he shaved it off to show he didn't want to be a mean bully anymore.

Nolan picked up a fancy glass cup and poured a straight line of warm milk into it, without spilling a single drop. He held it out to me like it was a super important mission and stood with his back totally straight, like a toy soldier.

"You must drink this so your bones get as hard as steel," Mr. Nolan said in his deep voice. He sounded like a muppet. "Three glasses a day. No exceptions. It is a tack-tick-al requirement for you to grow big and strong and punch your enemies."

"Thank you, Mr. Mustache-less," I giggled, taking the glass.

A few feet away, Mark and Debbie were hiding behind a table, laughing into their hands. Mark was Mr. Nolan's son, and he was wearing a tight suit that looked like it was going to pop its buttons if he flexed his arms too hard.

Standing right next to them were Mr. Carl and Miss Brittney, holding hands and laughing at Nolan too. They looked like such a happy, normal couple compared to all the aliens.

"I can't believe it," Mark laughed, whispering to Johnny. "He fought gods, John. He ripped entire cities in half with his bare hands. And now he's the galaxy's most terrifying milkman."

Johnny was standing next to Mark, chuckling quietly.

My big brother was so much taller now. He was built like a giant superhero, and his face and hands had lots of little white scars. He had his hands stuffed deep in his pockets. But his eyes were exactly the same. When he looked at me, I felt totally safe, like I always did.

"Hey, the milk works," Johnny grinned, pointing across the grass.

I looked over.

Laying in the shade of a giant oak tree was Ms. Moo. She was a huge cow wearing holy robes and a beautiful necklace made of blue flowers.

Sitting in a circle around the cow were a bunch of regular people. But they were all wearing white pajamas with big black cow spots painted on them!

"What are they doing?" I asked, sipping my milk. It tasted like vanilla and … sunshine?

"That's her fan club," Johnny chuckled. "Her milk makes people feel really happy and calm. It stopped a lot of the bad dreams people were having after the sky fell. So now people bring her apples and treat her like a queen."

"Mooo," Ms. Moo said softly. She chewed happily on a carrot that a guy in a cow suit handed her while he bowed on his knees.

"Can we go play now?!" a loud voice yelled.

I turned around.

Zack and Zoe were running across the grass. They were the brother and sister duo on top of superhero Tech Jacket.

'They are so COOL!!! Can I and Johnny be like them too?'

Zack was wearing a shiny silver watch on his wrist that looked like a piece of alien armor and Zoe had a similar bracelet but she had her nice shirt untucked and had grass stains all over her knees.

"Tag! You're it!" Zoe yelled as she slapped Ship on his metal head before sprinting away, giggling like crazy.

"Ship! Ship!" Ship barked happily and zoomed after her like a green and black rocket.

"Oh, you're gonna get it!" I laughed.

I dropped my empty glass on the table and chased after them.

The three of us ran through the garden, dodging the chairs and tables covered in white cloths. Zoe tripped over a chair leg, and a giant silver robotic arm accidentally popped out of her bracelet for a second before he hid it again.

We ran right past the food buffet, where I had to stop and stare.

There was a giant orange alien with only one eye! He was taller than the trees, and he had about twenty cupcakes stuffed into his hands. His name was Allen the Alien.

'Even I could come up with a better name.'

And standing next to him was a pretty lady with purple skin named Telia.

"Allen, keep some for the rest of the guests!" Telia scolded him, slapping his giant orange arm.

"But they're so small! I need the calories for space travel!" Allen argued with his mouth full of frosting.
