Chapter 1 - Chapter 1-Rainy Reunion

The rain fell in sheets outside Emma Whitford's café, drumming against the windows like a thousand tiny footsteps. Inside, the scent of fresh coffee and cinnamon bread wrapped around her like a comforting hug. She wiped the counter for the tenth time that morning, humming softly to herself, trying to ignore the storm outside.

Another slow afternoon, she told herself. Just another ordinary day.

Then the bell above the door rang.

Emma looked up, expecting a drenched stranger seeking warmth. What she did not expect was him.

Liam Reyes.

Her heart stopped.

Seven years. Seven long, aching years since he disappeared without a word, leaving nothing but silence and questions in his wake. And now… here he was, standing in her café, water dripping from his jacket, eyes scanning the room as if nothing had changed.

"Coffee?" Emma's voice trembled despite her effort to stay calm.

Liam's eyes softened—not warm, not cold… just quiet. "Black," he said.

Simple. Direct. And it made her chest ache more than she wanted to admit.

She prepared the coffee, her hands shaking slightly. Every motion felt heavier than usual, as if gravity itself had doubled. When she set the cup in front of him, their fingers brushed, and the jolt that shot through her made her stomach twist.

"Here," she murmured.

Liam studied her face carefully. "Emma Whitford."

"Liam Reyes," she replied, steadier than she felt.

Silence settled between them. The hiss of the espresso machine, the chatter of a few lingering customers, even the rain outside—it all faded into nothing.

"It's… been a long time," he finally said.

"Yes," she whispered. "Seven years."

Seven years of unanswered questions. Seven years of wondering why he left. Seven years of waiting for this moment. And now he was here, standing in front of her, as if no time had passed at all.

The rain continued to fall outside, but inside the café, a storm of emotions raged.

Emma realized something terrifying: no matter how hard she tried to move on, a part of her had never stopped waiting for this moment.

And Liam… he didn't look like he had moved on either.
