Chapter 100 - Losing Heka

For years, Waylinn had avoided Nauvichsa along time. His magical ability to teleport had been a blessing in this regard. It allowed him to bypass the town entirely, to skirt around its chaotic heart without ever setting foot inside.

That way was easier and safer. Moreover, the unpredictability of Nauvichsa was a risk he preferred not to take.

But today was different. Today marked his first visit in a long time. As he arrived, he immediately noticed how much the place had changed. The streets were more crowded, the noise louder, the chaos more palpable.

The town had become a gaggle of voices, colors, and movement, a living, breathing creatures that pulsed with restless energy.

Yet, despite the overwhelming clamor, Waylinn's focus was elsewhere. His attention was fixed on Heka, the companion who traveled with him. A presence that demanded his vigilance.

In a place like Nauvichsa, where the danger lurked behind every corner and trust was a rare commodity. Waylinn knew he had to be alert. For Heka's sake, he could not afford a distraction.

The freedom of Nauvichsa was intoxicating to some. But to Waylinn, it was a double-edged sword. It promised possibility but threatened chaos.

As he moved through the crowded streets. His mind flickered with a mixture of wariness and determination. This visit was necessary, unavoidable and he would face whatever awaited him here, no matter how much he hated it.

He could tell from the way Heka's eyes roamed the streets of Nauvichsa that the place had captured his imagination completely. The chaotic energy, the vibrant crowds, the unrestrained freedom.

It all seemed to fill Heka with a sense of wonder unlike anything Waylinn had seen before. His gaze was wide. His eyes sparkled with amazement, as if every corner held a new marvel waiting to be discovered.

Yet, despite Heka's obvious fascination, Waylinn chose to let him be. He didn't press for explanations or try to temper his excitement.

There was a part of him that didn't fully understand the reasons behind Heka's awe. But he respected it nonetheless.

More importantly, he didn't want to be the one to shatter that fragile bubble of joy. Sometimes, the truth could wait, and disappointment was a burden better avoided for a while.

As long as Heka stayed close to him, Waylinn was confident he could keep him safe.

The key was to avoid any encounters with another humans in the town, especially those who might recognize or threaten them. Nauvichsa was a place where secrets were currency, and one wrong step could unravel everything.

Without hesitation, Waylinn strode forward through the bustling streets. Heka had refused to ride on his back, insisting instead on walking beside him. The boy's small hand gripped Waylinn's firmly.

Waylinn tightened his own hold, warning him softly. "Don't let your grips off. Not for a moment."

Heka nodded. His expression was serious, despite the lingering excitement in his eyes. Together, they moved as one through the unpredictable maze of Nauvichsa.

A silent promise passing between them: no matter what wonders or dangers awaited, they would face them side by side.

Grievously, Waylinn had lost Heka. The boy had been kidnapped, snatched away in a moment.

So swift and sudden that it left Waylinn reeling, struggling to grasp what had just transpired.

It was as if the world had shifted in the blink of an eye. When he looked up, Heka was gone. No warning, no struggle, just a space where the boy had been moments before.

All Waylinn knew was that it had happened during the turmoil. The chaotic uproar that had erupted unexpectedly in the heart of Nauvichsa.

At first, he had thought it was just another outbreak of disorder, a natural consequence of the town's lawless nature. But soon, the harsh truth became clear: the turmoil was a trap, carefully orchestrated to distract and disorient him.

Confusion and desperation swirled inside him. He had no clear plan, no immediate course of action.

The uncertainty gnawed at his mind, but one thing was certain. He had to find Heka. No matter the cost, no matter the danger, he would not let the boy slip away into the shadows.

His first suspicion fell heavily on the witches.

Though they were human, like Heka, however Waylinn harbored a deep mistrust toward them. Their motives were often shrouded in mystery and self-interest. Hence, he could not imagine they had taken Heka out of kindness or goodwill.

----------------

If their intentions had been good, they would have allowed Waylinn to accompany Heka, to protect him. Instead, they had made the boy vanish from his sight, severing the fragile bond that kept them together. That act alone spoke the chapter about their true purpose.

Waylinn's heart pounded with a mixture of fear and determination. The witches were cunning. He knew that confronting them would be perilous. Yet, he could not afford hesitation. Every second that passed was a second closer to losing Heka forever.

With grim resolve, Waylinn steeled himself for the hunt ahead. The streets of Nauvichsa were once a place of chaotic freedom. Now felt like a labyrinth of shadows and threats.

But he would navigate it all through darkness, deception, and danger. Just to bring Heka back to his side.

****

Apparently, Heka was surprisingly pleasant in this new vibe, because everyone treated him with kindness and warmth. It was a stark contrast to the harshness he had expected.

Well, almost everyone, except for Alaric and Dorian. But even their coldness wasn't as threatening as it might have seemed; they simply ignored him completely. As if he were a wind passing through their lives.

Dorian, despite his aloofness, carried an odd contradiction. Though he seemed unwelcoming at first glance, there was a subtle softness in his smile when he looked at Heka.

An unspoken acknowledgment that hinted at something deeper beneath his guarded exterior.

Alaric, on the other hand, was more difficult to read. His glare was sharp, almost piercing. It was accompanied by a smirk that suggested amusement rather than outright hostility.

It was as if he were silently challenging Heka, testing his resolve without saying a word.
