Sometimes the bravest move isn't to win the battle—it's to survive it.
When Ash and Serena learned that the legendary PokemonMew was nearby—and possibly being hunted—they didn't hesitate for a second.
They immediately dropped what they were doing, hastily packed up their things, and sprinted toward the downstream riverbank.
They hadn't run far when the scene came into view.
A red-haired young man was standing off against a large group of people.
All of them wore identical dark-gray uniforms, each marked with a large red "R."
Team Rocket.
The largest criminal Pokemonorganization in the Kanto region.
At the very front stood a burly man wearing a strange mechanical visor that made him look like some kind of cybernetic madman.
In front of him stood several Pokémon.
Ash quickly scanned them. He recognized one Dodrio—but the rest were completely unfamiliar.
Normally, he would have already pulled out his Pokédex to identify them one by one.
But now—
His attention was completely captured by the Pokemonfloating between the two sides.
Pink fur.
A tiny body.
Playful, agile movements.
Exactly the same as the one he remembered.
"…Mew."
"Hmph! Don't think having a legendary Pokemonmeans you can defeat us!"
The burly man's face twisted in anger as he waved his arm sharply.
"Move in! Stop him!"
"Yes, Lord Bisharp!"
Several Team Rocket grunts immediately threw Poké Balls.
"Golbat, use Supersonic!"
"Raticate, Hyper Fang!"
"Fearow, Gust!"
"Houndour, Beat Up!"
A barrage of attacks surged toward the red-haired man.
Yet he remained perfectly calm.
"Urshifu—Wicked Blow."
In the blink of an eye, the powerful bear Pokemonstepped forward.
Its black-and-white fur resembled a martial arts uniform. Its posture was solid as stone carved by a mountain waterfall.
Facing the incoming attacks, Urshifu lowered its stance.
Right arm drawn back—
Then—
"HA!"
A dark red shockwave burst forward.
Every attack was obliterated instantly.
The shockwave crashed into the opposing Pokémon, triggering a massive explosion.
One after another—
They were blasted away.
All knocked out instantly.
But just as the red-haired man defeated the grunts' Pokémon—
A chill ran down his spine.
He spun around.
A Sneasel had silently crept up behind him.
Its claws glowed with toxic purple energy.
The target—
His throat.
CLANG!
At the last possible moment, a Poké Ball at his waist burst open automatically.
A larger Pokemonleapt out—
Weavile.
Its icy-blue claws slammed into Sneasel's poison strike.
"Not good!"
The red-haired man breathed out slightly in relief—but then his face changed dramatically.
He turned toward Mew.
Just as he feared—
Bisharp had already sent out Scizor, keeping Mew pinned down.
And in Bisharp's hand—
Was a pitch-black Poké Ball.
The moment the red-haired man saw it—
His pupils shrank.
"STOP!"
"Go—Dark Ball!"
Bisharp grinned viciously and hurled the ball straight at Mew.
But just before it could hit—
"Froakie! Use Throw!"
"Froa."
A small stone shot out from the distance.
It struck the Dark Ball with perfect accuracy, knocking it off course.
Mew instantly reacted.
With a swift turn, it vanished from Bisharp's reach.
"Damn it!"
Bisharp whipped his head toward the source of the attack.
He saw Ash and Serena—
And behind them—
Mew.
For a moment he froze.
Then he grinned maliciously.
"So it's just two kids."
His voice turned cold.
"Hand over the Mew behind you."
"Or you'll regret ever being born."
Ash stepped forward without hesitation.
Standing directly in front of Serena and Mew.
"I'm not giving it to you!"
Then he turned to Mew and spoke gently.
"Don't worry. I've got this."
Serena froze.
Those words—
Pulled her straight into the past.
Back to when she was a child.
Back to the PokemonSummer Camp in Kanto.
She had gotten lost in the forest.
Her leg was injured.
She was crying, terrified.
Then a boy found her.
He carried her on his back through the forest.
And she remembered clearly—
Before she fell asleep, the boy had told her:
"Don't worry. I've got this."
The voice had been young—
But unbelievably reassuring.
Now…
Standing beside Ash…
She heard those exact same words again.
Different voice.
But the tone.
The feeling.
Exactly the same.
Serena stared at him in shock.
"Ash… who are you really…?"
But Ash didn't notice.
He was too focused on the enemy.
The pressure coming from Bisharp was completely different from any battle he'd experienced before.
If he made one wrong move—
This could end very badly.
Yet strangely—
Ash placed a hand over his chest.
Why didn't he feel afraid?
His heart was pounding.
But not from fear.
No—
This feeling was closer to excitement.
"Froakie."
Even while lowering his voice, the passion inside it couldn't be hidden.
"Let's do this."
"Froa."
Froakie looked at him with interest.
Then glanced briefly at Mew.
Originally, it had been planning to test its blade against the legendary Pokémon.
But—
The enemies in front looked far more interesting.
"Looks like you've chosen the hard way," Bisharp sneered.
"Scizor—Bullet Punch!"
Scizor's claws flashed metallic gray as it rocketed forward like a missile.
"Froakie—Quick Attack!"
"Froa!"
Light shimmered around Froakie's body.
It slipped through Scizor's flurry of punches like a phantom.
Then—
The moment Scizor paused—
Froakie's eyes sharpened.
A glowing blade appeared in its hand.
"Now—Flame Wheel!"
"Froa."
The blade ignited.
Orange flames wrapped around it.
Froakie dashed forward and raised the blazing sword.
Then slashed downward in an X-shaped arc.
Sword Four — Grand Severing!
SHHK!
Two massive burn marks carved across Scizor's steel body.
A quadruple type weakness.
Scizor was sent flying.
Instant knockout.
Serena stared in disbelief.
"That… was a Fire-type move?!"
"Froakie can't even learn Fire moves…!"
Froakie glanced at her calmly.
"Froa."
If you're fast enough—
Anything is possible.
Friction creates heat.
Even children know that.
Once again—
Froakie's speed was terrifying.
Bisharp merely scoffed.
"So you've got some skill."
Then he pulled out several Poké Balls.
"But this is where it ends."
"Go! Bring me Mew!"
A ring of powerful Pokemonappeared:
Metagross.
Rhyperior.
Bisharp.
Nidoking.
Gliscor.
Electabuzz.
Every one of them radiated brutal strength.
These were Pokemoncaptured using Dark Balls—a technology that forcibly controlled Pokemonand amplified their power.
Half of them moved to stall the red-haired man.
The rest—
Charged Ash.
"…This is bad," Ash muttered.
He glanced at Froakie.
"Can you handle them?"
Froakie raised its glowing blade toward the enemies.
A wild grin spread across its face.
"Froa."
Today—
I can cut freely.
Ash sighed.
"That's basically Froakie language for 'probably not.'"
Still—
He had no choice.
"Mimikyu, I choose you!"
At the same moment—
"Delphox, go!"
Ash blinked.
A tall fox Pokemonnow stood beside Mimikyu.
He turned.
Serena lowered her arm from her Poké Ball throw and stepped beside him.
She smiled and gave him a thumbs-up.
"Let's fight together."
Warmth filled Ash's chest.
He grinned back.
"Yeah. Let's do this."
Both of them turned forward simultaneously.
Their expressions became identical—focused and determined.
"Delphox—Mystical Fire!"
"Mimikyu—Astonish!"
"Mimi—BOO!"
Mimikyu suddenly lifted its disguise.
A terrifying aura burst outward.
Nidoking and Gliscor flinched in fear.
Right then—
Mystical Fire engulfed the battlefield.
But the enemy Pokemonquickly broke through the flames.
Electabuzz charged forward like a tank.
"Froakie—Bubble!"
"Froa!"
Froakie hurled a mass of foam, blinding Electabuzz.
Then it intercepted Bisharp.
CLANG!
Steel struck steel.
Froakie's eyes sharpened.
I will cut you down.
Meanwhile—
Ash and Serena seized the moment.
"Psychic!"
"Wood Hammer!"
BOOM!
The combined attack smashed into Electabuzz.
It collapsed instantly.
But the battle was far from over.
Nidoking and Gliscor recovered and lunged again.
Delphox was struck hard and sent flying.
Ash clenched his teeth.
They were outnumbered.
They desperately needed more Pokémon.
Then—
A small voice spoke.
"Mew."
Mew floated in front of him.
Ash blinked.
"You want me to command you?"
"Mew!"
It nodded eagerly.
Ash's eyes lit up.
"Alright!"
"Let's fight together!"
Then he leaned toward Serena.
"I have a plan."
She nodded immediately.
"I trust you."
Ash shouted toward Froakie.
"Froakie!"
Froakie glanced over mid-duel.
Seeing Ash's expression—
It nodded.
Understood.
Ash raised his arm.
"Mew—use Hurricane, full power!"
"Mew!"
A massive cyclone erupted.
Dust and wind engulfed the battlefield.
Visibility dropped to zero.
"Now!"
Ash instantly recalled Mimikyu.
Serena recalled Delphox.
Before she could ask what was happening—
Ash grabbed her arm—
Spun—
And hoisted her onto his back.
Then he ran.
Fast.
Very fast.
Serena froze.
"…Ash?"
"What are you doing?!"
"Running away."
Ash answered matter-of-factly.
"We can't win. So we run."
Serena blushed slightly.
"…Then why are you carrying me?"
"You're too slow."
Ash said honestly.
At that moment Froakie appeared beside him.
"Mew—grab my hair!"
"Serena—hold on tight!"
"Huh—?!"
"Hang on! We're speeding up!"
BOOM!
Ash launched forward like a cannonball.
Wind barriers exploded around him.
His speed skyrocketed.
Serena screamed as the wind blasted past her face.
She clung tightly to his arms.
And Ash—
Kept accelerating.
Ash used Agility.
It was super effective.
Ash fled successfully. 🏃♂️💨
