Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 Not Everyone Agrees

The ride back—

was silent.

Not peaceful.

Not calm.

Heavy.

The kind of silence that stayed—

because no one knew how to break it

without making things worse.

No one started it.

Bimo stared out the window.

Didn't joke.

Didn't talk.

Didn't even try.

Sinta sat still.

Arms folded.

Eyes closed—

but not resting.

Rani looked down at her hands.

Still.

Trembling.

At the front—

Arga didn't turn.

Didn't explain.

Didn't defend himself.

Didn't apologize.

Because there was nothing he could say

that wouldn't break something else.

Back at base—

everything looked normal.

Lights.

Voices.

Movement.

Except them.

"…you didn't even try."

Rani's voice cut through the air.

Soft—

but sharp enough to stop everything.

Arga turned.

Slowly.

"…I did."

"No."

Her voice steadied.

"You didn't."

Silence.

"He was gone."

"You don't know that."

"I do."

"You don't."

Her voice cracked—

but she didn't step back.

Not this time.

Sinta didn't move.

Didn't interrupt.

Because this—

had to happen.

"If there was even a chance—"

"There wasn't."

"You didn't wait."

"I couldn't."

Silence.

Because that answer—

was honest.

And still—

not enough.

"He asked for help."

Everything stopped.

Arga's jaw tightened.

"…for a second."

"And that was enough."

Her eyes burned.

"…for me."

Bimo shifted.

"…okay…"

"…this is getting bad…"

No one reacted.

Because it already was.

"You're deciding who lives and who doesn't."

"I'm deciding who we can still save."

"That's not your choice."

"It becomes my choice if no one else makes it."

Silence.

That was the truth—

no one wanted.

"That's not saving."

Rani's voice shook—

but didn't fall.

"That's giving up."

Arga stepped closer.

"…no."

His voice calm.

Too calm.

"…that's reality."

Silence.

Heavy.

Irreversible.

Same mission.

Different meaning.

"…both of you are right."

They turned.

Sinta stood there.

Steady.

Clear.

"If we hesitate—people get hurt."

A beat.

"If we give up too fast…"

Her gaze shifted to Arga.

"…we lose what we're trying to protect."

Silence.

No one argued.

Because she was right.

And that made it worse.

"That's enough."

Pak Rahmat's voice cut in.

Not loud.

But final.

He looked at them.

Long.

"You think this is new?"

No one answered.

"I've seen this before."

A pause.

"You don't win this kind of fight…"

"…without losing something."

The words settled.

Heavy.

Permanent.

"…I don't accept that."

Rani's voice was softer now.

But stronger.

"…there has to be another way."

Arga didn't argue.

Didn't push.

Didn't defend.

"…then find it."

Silence.

No sarcasm.

No anger.

Just truth.

Rani stepped back.

Not leaving.

But not standing with him either.

That was enough.

"…so…"

Bimo scratched his head.

"…we're still a team, right?"

No one answered.

Because it wasn't simple anymore.

That night—

the base fell quiet.

Lights dimmed.

Voices gone.

Only thoughts remained.

Outside—

Arga stood alone.

Looking at nothing.

Or maybe—

too much.

He opened his hand.

The energy responded.

Calm.

Controlled.

Obedient.

"…I did the right thing."

He said it.

But not like he believed it.

Inside—

Rani sat in silence.

Her lunch box resting in her lap.

The light inside—

soft.

Gentle.

"…there had to be a way."

Her grip tightened.

"…I just didn't find it."

Same mission.

Same enemy.

Different answers.

And slowly—

those differences—

started to matter.

Far away—

a screen flickered.

The man in the hat watched.

No smile.

No emotion.

Just interest.

"…good."

A soft tap.

"…now they're breaking."

A pause.

"…from the inside."

Back at the base—

two lights glowed in the dark.

One—

steady.

Cold.

Unwavering.

The other—

soft.

Warm.

Still searching.

Both strong.

Both necessary.

But no longer—

aligned.

And that—

was more dangerous

than any enemy.
