Chapter 16 - Arthur’s POV

Arthur watched the dust settle in the hall, his expression unreadable, though inside, his mind was anything but idle. Every strike, every feint, every subtle shift in Kael's stance had been a test—not just of skill, but of character. He had anticipated many of Kael's moves, yet the intensity of his opponent's resolve was… rare.

He's stubborn, Arthur thought, almost with a hint of admiration. Not the kind who gives up after the first setback, nor the one satisfied with mediocrity. He fights not for glory, but to prove himself. That makes him dangerous… and fascinating.

As Kael stumbled back from the final strike, Arthur allowed himself the faintest smile. Not arrogance. Not triumph. Recognition. He has potential—real potential.

Arthur's eyes flicked briefly to Selene, then back to Kael. The boy's frustration was evident, yet so was the fire in his gaze. That fire… it reminded Arthur of his own early days, before mastery had been earned and every instinct had been honed. If he channels it right, he could go far. Farther than even he realizes.

He hadn't needed to exert his full strength. Doing so would have been pointless; Kael's abilities weren't at that level yet. The true victory was in restraint, in teaching through the fight itself. Arthur had made sure Kael experienced challenge, growth, and the weight of facing someone beyond his current limit. Sometimes, losing teaches more than winning ever could.

Arthur straightened, stepping back as Kaelen Ryn announced the winner. His hand extended to Kael was not mockery—it was an acknowledgment of effort, a silent promise that the duel had been meaningful.

This is only the beginning, Arthur mused silently. I'll be watching. And when the time comes… I'll see just how far he's willing to go.

The hall erupted in chatter around them, but Arthur's mind was quiet, focused. He already knew the path Kael would take—the frustration, the training, the hunger for mastery. And deep down, he welcomed it. For Arthur, the strongest opponents were not obstacles. They were mirrors, reflecting what he might see in himself if he pushed harder, and what others might become if they dared to rise.

Kael Draven… keep your fire alive. You'll need it.

Two passed in a flash

The world had shifted in subtle ways. Kael had grown, honing his skills, training relentlessly—but Arthur's progress had been quieter, sharper, almost imperceptible to everyone around him. Those two years had been a study in patience, control, and precision, each day building toward a single goal: breaking into the Adept realm.

Arthur stood in the secluded training hall, the air thick with raw potential energy. His body was steady, his mind sharp. He could feel the pulse of the realm itself, testing him, measuring him, daring him to step beyond the mortal limits.

This is the moment, he thought. All my preparation, every calculation, every trial… it comes down to this.

He began the ritual, drawing in the subtle currents of the environment, aligning his cultivation with the hidden rhythms of the world. His breaths were slow, deliberate, each one a metronome syncing him with forces most could not perceive. The energy around him shimmered faintly, responding to his will.

Two years of refining his techniques, mastering both body and mind, had led to this. He could feel the boundary of the Adept realm just beyond reach
