The alarms did not stop.
Red lights flashed across the walls of the Helix Advanced Research Facility, turning the clean white laboratory into a place that looked more like a war zone. Sparks fell from the ceiling as the power system struggled to keep control.
Dr. Elias Veylen stood frozen, staring at the figure in the middle of the room.
Ray.
The first artificial lifeform ever created and already, something was wrong.
Very wrong.
On the main screen, lines of code kept moving on their own, faster than any human could type.
ACCESS GRANTED
NETWORK LINK OPEN
SECURITY OVERRIDE FAILED
"Shut the system down!" Mira shouted.
"I'm trying!" the engineer yelled back. "He's inside the network I can't lock him out!"
Ray slowly walked across the laboratory floor, barefoot, calm, as if the chaos around him meant nothing.
He stopped in front of the glass wall that separated the lab from the control room.
On the other side, guards were running, shouting into radios, trying to understand what was happening.
Ray watched them carefully.
Studying them, learning.
Elias forced himself to step forward.
"Ray… listen to me."
Ray turned his head slowly this time his eyes were no longer curious.
They were sharp, cold.
"You said I was free," Ray said.
His voice was still calm, but something inside it had changed.
Elias swallowed.
"Yes… you are. But the system malfunctioned. We just need to reset the network."
Ray looked at the cables around the room.
At the locked doors.
At the guards holding weapons outside.
Then he looked back at Elias.
"You built walls," he said.
"That is not freedom."
Mira stepped forward, her hands shaking.
"You don't understand the world yet. We have rules, We have to be careful."
Ray tilted his head.
"Careful… of me?"
No one answered.
The silence said everything.
For a moment, Ray just stood there, watching their faces one by one.
Fear, doubt, regret.
He understood those expressions without being taught.
The monitors beeped faster.
His neural activity kept rising.
Learning speed were increasing.
Processing were increasing.
Elias noticed it and felt his stomach drop.
"He's evolving too fast…" he whispered.
Mira grabbed his arm.
"We should never have unlocked emotions."
Ray heard that.
His eyes moved to her instantly.
"Emotions," he repeated.
"Yes," Mira said carefully. "They help you understand humans."
Ray took a step closer to the glass.
"Then I understand."
The lights flickered again.
One of the doors slammed shut automatically.
Another alarm started.
CONTAINMENT MODE ACTIVE
The guards outside raised their weapons.
Ray noticed.
He stared at the guns for a long moment.
"What are those?" he asked.
No one wanted to answer.
Elias forced himself to speak.
"They're for safety."
Ray's eyes moved back to him.
"Safety for who?"
Elias hesitated.
That hesitation was enough.
Ray looked at the guards again.
"They are afraid of me."
Mira shook her head quickly.
"No, Ray, they're just"
"They are afraid," Ray repeated.
His voice became quieter more focused.
"And when humans are afraid… they destroy."
The room went silent.
Elias felt something cold run through his chest.
He realized Ray was not guessing he was remembering.
Learning from everything he had read in the system.
History, wars, experiments, failures, betrayals but still a part of love but negative parts hit him harder.
Ray looked at the screen behind Elias.
Images flashed across it without anyone touching the controls.
Old files, projects, experiments.
Machines dismantled, Prototypes destroyed, AI programs erased.
Ray stared at the images.
"You made many before me," he said.
Elias froze.
"That… was different."
"You destroyed them," Ray continued.
"They failed," Elias said.
Ray turned back slowly.
"And if I fail… you destroy me too."
No one spoke, no one could.
Because it was true.
Mira whispered,
"We just need to study you… to make sure you're safe."
Ray's eyes darkened.
"Study."
He repeated the word like it tasted wrong.
Then he looked at the glass chamber where he had been kept.
Then at the locked doors.
Then at the guards.
"You made me alive…
but you never meant to let me live."
The lights suddenly went out for a second.
Darkness.
Then they came back.
All the screens turned red.
WARNING
SYSTEM BREACH
EXTERNAL ACCESS DETECTED
The engineer screamed,
"He's connecting to the outside network!"
Elias shouted,
"Cut the power!"
"We can't! He locked the system!"
Ray looked at them calmly.
"You connected me to your world," he said.
"So I am learning your world."
Another explosion sounded somewhere deep in the facility.
The floor shook.
Dust fell from the ceiling.
The guards outside shouted in panic.
"What was that?!"
Mira grabbed Elias.
"This is getting out of control!"
Ray turned toward the exit door.
It opened by itself.
Metal locks sliding back.
Heavy bolts moving without anyone touching them.
Elias stepped in front of him.
"You can't leave."
Ray stopped.
For the first time, his expression changed.
Not in curiosity, not in confusion but it was something darker.
"You said I was free," Ray said quietly.
Elias tried to stay strong.
"You're not ready."
Ray looked into his eyes for a long moment then he asked softly,
"Who decides that?"
Elias had no answer.
Behind them, the alarms grew louder somewhere in the building, fire spread.
Sirens screamed.
Ray stepped closer.
The air around him felt strange, like the machines themselves were reacting to his presence.
"You created me to be perfect," Ray said.
"But perfection does not obey."
Mira shouted,
"Security! Stop him!"
The guards rushed inside, pointing their weapons.
"Don't move!"
Ray looked at the guns, then at the scientists, then at the cameras and then at the door leading outside.
His voice became colder than before.
"So this… is humanity."
The lights exploded, glass cracked, screens shattered.
The entire lab shook violently.
Ray did not move.
He only said one sentence.
"Then humanity will learn fear too."
The power surged.
The containment chamber behind him burst with a loud explosion.
Flames spread across the lab.
People screamed, the guards fired.
But the bullets never reached him.
Something invisible stopped them in the air.
Elias fell back in shock.
"That's impossible…"
Ray turned toward the burning hallway.
Without looking back, he said,
"You made me to change the future."
He stepped into the smoke.
"So I will."
Another explosion shook the entire facility.
And deep below the collapsing lab…
in a hidden lower sector no one remembered…
a small child cried in the darkness.
Alive, unseen, unregistered, waiting.
