Chapter 13 - Part 13: A Day That Felt Different

The morning didn't feel unusual.

The same sunlight filtered through the curtains.

The same quiet hum of people getting ready outside.

Everything was normal.

Except—

Stephan still stood in front of the mirror.

Changing his shirt.

For the third time.

He looked at himself.

Then at the collar.

Adjusted it slightly.

Then changed it again.

"This is stupid…" he muttered.

Behind him—

Johan, sitting casually on the bed, smirked.

"You've been saying that for ten minutes."

Hill laughed.

"Just admit it… you care."

Stephan didn't reply.

But he still adjusted his collar.

Not too formal.

Not too casual.

Just enough.

And for some reason—

that mattered.

Stephan walked out of the room.

Leaving Johan and Hill behind.

The moment the door closed—

Johan leaned closer to Hill.

"We have to help him."

Hill smirked.

"Obviously."

Johan shook his head.

"If we don't… he's going to stay like this forever."

Hill added—

"Single."

Johan laughed softly.

"Finally he likes someone… and look at him."

Hill folded his arms.

"He won't do anything."

Johan nodded.

"So we make him do it."

A small pause.

Then—

Johan smiled.

"I have an idea."

Hill's grin widened.

"This is going to be fun."

🍽️ Breakfast

The place was already full.

Voices overlapping.

Students laughing.

Plates clinking.

Pixel sat with Ketty.

Stevan beside her—

talking non-stop.

Pixel listened calmly.

A faint smile on her face.

Across the space—

Stephan sat with Johan and Hill.

Johan leaned slightly towards Hill.

"Watch this."

Before Stephan could notice—

the incharge spoke loudly—

"Stephan and Pixel will go to the market."

A small silence followed.

Then whispers.

Stephan froze for a second.

His eyes shifted instantly—

towards Johan.

Then Hill.

Just for a moment—

their eyes met.

No words were spoken.

But it was clear.

A silent understanding.

A silent acknowledgment.

Stephan gave the slightest nod.

Barely noticeable.

But enough.

A quiet—

thank you.

Johan smirked.

Hill leaned back, satisfied.

"Perfect."

Pixel looked confused.

Then immediately stood up—

and walked towards the incharge.

"Sir…"

The incharge looked at her.

"Yes?"

Pixel spoke calmly—

"Instead of me… can Ketty go?"

For a second—

everything felt still.

Stephan's eyes moved to her instantly.

The incharge shook his head.

"No. I've already decided."

Pixel didn't argue.

"But—"

"No," he repeated.

"You're going."

A small pause.

Pixel nodded slowly.

"Okay."

She turned back.

Ketty looked slightly disappointed.

Stephan said nothing.

But something about that moment—

stayed.

Because she tried.

She tried to avoid it.

And yet—

she didn't fight it.

She just accepted it.

From the side—

Johan leaned closer to Hill.

"See?"

Hill smirked.

"Even fate is on our side."

🚗 The Ride

For a while—

neither of them spoke.

The silence wasn't uncomfortable.

But it wasn't easy either.

Then Pixel said—

"You don't look like someone who shops for group trips."

Stephan glanced at her.

"And you do?"

Pixel smiled slightly.

"Sometimes."

A pause.

Stephan tapped the steering wheel lightly.

Then—

"You and Daniel… you're close?"

Pixel looked out of the window.

"We've known each other for a long time."

"That's not what I asked."

She glanced at him.

"You ask too directly."

"Then answer indirectly."

A small pause.

"He's important."

That was all.

And it stayed.

🌆 Market

The place was crowded.

Pixel walked ahead with the list.

Stephan followed—

closer than before.

"Carry this."

"Bossy."

"Helpful."

He took it anyway.

They moved through shops.

Talking lightly.

At one point—

their hands brushed.

Stephan paused.

Pixel didn't.

And that made it matter more.

🍜 Street Food

Pixel stopped at a small stall.

"Try this."

Stephan looked at it, slightly unsure.

"You trust this?"

Pixel glanced at him.

"I'm still alive."

Stephan let out a small laugh.

"That's not very convincing."

"Then don't eat it."

She turned slightly, about to walk ahead.

Stephan immediately picked it up.

"Wait."

He took a bite.

Paused.

Chewed slowly.

Pixel watched him—

not impatiently,

just observing.

Then—

"It's good."

Pixel nodded.

Like she already knew the answer.

"I wouldn't suggest it otherwise."

Stephan looked at her.

"You sound very confident."

"I am."

"About food?"

"About my choices."

That line made him pause for a second.

Then he smirked slightly.

"Dangerous."

Pixel didn't react much.

"Only if you make it."

A small silence.

Then Stephan asked—

"You come here often?"

"Sometimes."

"Alone?"

She nodded.

"It's quieter."

Stephan looked around.

The crowd.

The noise.

The chaos.

"Doesn't look quiet."

Pixel's gaze shifted slightly—

towards the edges.

Where fewer people stood.

"Depends where you stand."

That answer—

felt like more than just about the place.

Stephan noticed.

But didn't say it.

Instead—

he took another bite.

"You have good taste."

Pixel raised an eyebrow slightly.

"In food?"

Stephan looked at her for a second.

"Still deciding."

A brief pause.

Pixel looked away—

but a faint smile appeared.

Then she said—

"Finish it. You paid for it."

Stephan chuckled.

"Bossy again."

"Practical."

He shook his head slightly.

But finished it anyway.

For a moment—

they just stood there.

Not talking.

Not trying.

Just existing in the same space.

And somehow—

it didn't feel awkward.

It felt…

easy.

Comfortable.

Like silence—

was enough.

🧠 Stephan's Thoughts

If it was someone else…

She would've tried to impress me.

Stay closer.

Make it obvious.

But Pixel—

She didn't try.

She didn't move closer.

She didn't pull away either.

She just stayed.

And somehow—

that made everything feel different.

🌇 Evening

They sat quietly.

The sun setting slowly—

orange light spreading across the sky.

For a moment—

neither of them spoke.

Then Stephan said—

"You didn't avoid me today."

Pixel looked at him.

"I wasn't trying to."

A small pause followed.

Then she added—

"You didn't give me a reason to walk away."

That line stayed.

Not because it was emotional—

but because it meant something more than it said.

Stephan leaned back slightly.

"Fair enough."

🌊 Meanwhile

Back at the beach—

Daniel found Ketty sitting alone.

"Where's Pixel?"

"Market."

"With Stephan."

A pause.

Daniel sat beside her.

"She doesn't usually go out like that."

Ketty smiled slightly.

"She doesn't do a lot of things usually."

Daniel nodded slowly.

"I like her."

Ketty wasn't surprised.

"It won't be easy."

Daniel smiled.

"I'm not looking for easy."

Ketty looked at him.

Then said softly—

"I'll help you."

Daniel raised an eyebrow.

"Why?"

Ketty looked ahead.

Calm.

"Because she deserves someone who stays."

A quiet moment followed.

The waves moving slowly in front of them.

Johan and Hill watching Stephan and pixel

Johan and Hill watched from a distance.

Johan crossed his arms.

"Plan successful."

Hill smirked.

"Step one."

Johan nodded.

"Now let's see if he does something."

Hill laughed softly.

"He won't."

Johan sighed.

"Then we push again."

✨ Ending

Sometimes—

it's not about getting closer…

but about realizing

you don't want to stay distant anymore.
