By the time Cain and Jade returned with the food, the ladies had already moved on to another topic of conversation. They placed the food on the leisure table at the end of the room, where there was a small seating area with couches and a table.
Tiana walked over and began sorting out the food before distributing it.
Cain moved toward Tara and sat beside her.
"How are you feeling?" he asked softly.
Tara felt awkward because of their closeness, but for the sake of his life-saving grace, she chose not to say anything. Instead, she smiled and replied,
"I'm fine."
"How about the baby?" Cain asked as he glanced at her stomach.
Tara followed his gaze and found him looking at her stomach, which was covered by the blanket. She gently touched it and smiled.
"The baby is fine, I guess."
Cain nodded in acknowledgment without saying anything else.
The others had been observing the interaction between Tara and Cain. Even Tiana paused sorting the food for a moment to watch them.
