Chapter 14 - 14

Chapter 14 is starting to get chaotic.

The torrential rain outside had not stopped.

Bai Tang glanced at the thermometer inside the room; it had already dropped to 28º.

The drop in temperature should have been a good thing, but it was followed by torrential rain and floods, as if a huge stone was weighing on everyone's hearts.

Fear and worry gripped the hearts of the citizens.

When the typhoon hit, it shattered all the glass and windows on some high-rise buildings.

Those in high positions are now deeply worried.

It's pouring rain outside; I doubt anyone will get a good night's sleep.

Bai Tang was also rolling around on the bed, and Gu Yanxu grabbed her as she rolled around.

"Don't worry, I've had the windows and glass in our house reinforced and replaced. The quality of the windows in our community is generally good. The broken glass is because they cut corners during their own renovations."

"Sigh, I just feel very depressed."

"It's okay, honey, I'm always here for you. Don't worry, go to sleep, or your dark circles will be really bad tomorrow."

"Okay, go to sleep."

After saying goodbye, Bai Tang nestled in Gu Yanxu's arms and slowly fell asleep.

Sure enough, when Bai Tang woke up the next day and looked in the mirror in the bathroom, she noticed that she had dark circles under her eyes.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we saw that Bai Jiyang and the others also looked exhausted.

"What's wrong? Didn't you guys sleep well last night either?"

Bai Tang asked as she sat down.

At this moment, Lin Fan came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of freshly cooked eight-treasure porridge.

"Sister-in-law, don't even mention it, we couldn't sleep last night."

"Yes, with this kind of weather, it's hard not to have insomnia."

"Sis, I didn't sleep well last night either. I kept having nightmares, and it was really depressing."

Gu Yanxu also came out of the kitchen carrying freshly heated buns.

"What's there to be discouraged about? We have food, drinks, and fun, and we're all here. Anyone who's feeling down can go upstairs and run on the treadmill for an hour."

After Gu Yanxu finished speaking, they all became dejected, stopped saying discouraging things, and no one wanted to run for an hour.

The floodwaters downstairs kept rising and inundating the upper floors.

During this time, people downstairs knocked on the door, but Lin Feng, the muscular man, had to deal with them and send them away.

In the early days of the apocalypse, nobody wanted to cause trouble, and Raymond Lam looked like someone not to be messed with.

The torrential rain didn't just last for a day or two, but it rained on and off for two months.

As time goes by, the flood level will only rise higher and higher, eventually reaching the eighth floor, and in some low-lying areas, the floodwaters may even reach the ninth floor.

At that time, the residents of the lower floors will have no choice but to move to the upper floors to see if anyone can temporarily take them in.

But even if someone kindly takes them in, how long can they stay if they have no food?

Some people also brought their families and temporarily lived in the space between the two households.

Bai Tang and the others planned to rest well these next few days, because if the floodwaters rose further, someone would definitely come knocking on their door again.

I definitely won't be able to sleep well in a few days.

After Bai Tang finished speaking with them, she went back to her room to take a nap.

Gu Yanxu and the others were left staring at each other in bewilderment.

Bai Jiyang said to them, "Since we're bored and have nothing to do anyway, let's play mahjong. Apart from you, brother-in-law, the four of us can make a table."

We're not gambling, money's useless these days. We're betting on who'll do the dishes, and whether Brother Lin Fan will come.

After they started eating together, they took turns washing the pots and dishes. They were eager to take advantage of the opportunity to let others wash the pots and dishes.

"Come on, come on," Lin Fan said enthusiastically.

"Then I have to beat you guys, I'm a mahjong master."

Raymond Lam rolled up his sleeves, ready to show off his skills.

Lin Zhou quietly raised his hand and said, "I'm not very good at it, please let me have it."

After speaking, Bai Jiyang went inside and took out a set of mahjong tiles.

Gu Yanxu stood by watching them and found that the four of them made up a table. There was nothing for him to do there, so he went to the bedroom to see if Bai Tang was asleep and to take a nap with her.

Gu Yanxu walked into the bedroom; Bai Tang was still awake.

"Tangtang, why aren't you asleep yet?"

Bai Tang sat up and said to Gu Yanxu, "It's raining outside, and it's making me feel annoyed."

"Take a good rest and don't worry too much."

Gu Yanxu coaxed Bai Tang to go to sleep for a while.

Bai Tang took a nap, and when she woke up, it was already noon.

After regaining her senses, Bai Tang got up and went to the window to see how high the water level had risen.

At this point, the water level had already reached the fourth floor.

The sky remained overcast, and the downpour continued without any sign of stopping.

Bai Tang stopped thinking about it. Anyway, she had a space full of stockpiled goods, so things would work themselves out. There was no point in worrying so much.

Bai Tang walked out of the bedroom and saw that several dishes had already been laid out in the dining room.

Gu Yanxu and the others were busy in the kitchen.

When Bai Jiyang saw Bai Tang come out, he came over and said, "Sis, you're up! I saw that your husband made your favorite spicy hot pot. It smells so good, it's making my mouth water. He only let us eat together after you sat down at the table. Go wash your hands and eat."

"You're here." Bai Tang smiled and walked over.

At this moment, Gu Yanxu came out of the kitchen carrying a hot pot of spicy stir-fry that he had just finished making.

After dinner, Gu Yanxu said to Bai Tang, "The building is starting to get chaotic."

"What's going on?" Bai Tang asked with a serious expression.

"An elderly person in a family on the 14th floor of our building fainted due to severe dehydration. The family shone flashlights at the police station, signaling SOS in Morse code. The police then sent an inflatable boat to take the person to the hospital."

When they arrived at the hospital, they found that it was in complete chaos. Due to the prolonged power and water outages, many patients in the intensive care unit were unable to use the life-saving medical equipment.

The hospital has generators, but they can't power all the machines in the hospital, so the families of the patients who couldn't use them started making a fuss.

The family in our building went to the hospital, got a quick IV drip, and were then sent back home.

"Things are already chaotic outside, and it probably won't be long before things get out of control."

Sure enough, just as Bai Tang finished speaking, someone knocked on the door in the hallway outside.

The group put down their half-eaten food and went to the hallway to see what was going on.

As I walked over, I noticed several people lurking around, watching the iron gate.

Bai Tang thought for a moment and realized that someone looked familiar. It seemed to be the old lady downstairs that day who tried to force them to buy their supplies.

Beside her were a middle-aged man and a woman, and a little boy was also holding her hand.

After recognizing who it was, Bai Tang turned around and tried to pull Gu Yanxu away.

The older woman quickly said to Bai Tang, "Young lady, I live on the fifth floor below you. We've met before. My house was flooded."

We heard from the group chat that you live alone. Could my family stay with you for a while?

"Auntie, are you kidding me? Who are you? Do I know you? Are we acquaintances? If we're not acquaintances, why would I let your whole family stay at my house? And who told you that I live alone?"

Bai Tang turned around and called for help from room 2001. Bai Jiyang came out as soon as he heard the call.

When the older woman saw that there were two men standing behind Bai Tang, her imposing manner inadvertently softened.

Before the older woman could say anything more, Bai Tang interrupted her directly: "I'm asking you, who told you I live alone? Didn't that person tell you that my husband lives with me, and my younger brother lives next door to me?"

Even if my husband and brother didn't live here, I would never let you stay at my house. You'd better save your time.

The old lady's face turned green from Bai Tang's mockery.
