Chapter 139 - 139

Chapter 139 Did you think I wasn't prepared?

"If you ask me, we should send them all into the lab. One injection and they'll all behave."

A middle-aged man in white pushed up his glasses; he appeared to be the head of the laboratory.

A sinister glint flashed in Ni Chongyang's eyes. He slammed his hands on the table, his voice sharp and menacing: "Lin Wu, it's not enough. This is far from enough. It's too easy on these people. What I want is not just control, but complete submission and fear. I want them to know that to resist me, Ni Chongyang, is to be with despair."

Yu Miaomiao stood outside the door, using her mental power to pinpoint Ni Chongyang's location. Ni Chongyang was rather overweight and easily recognizable in a crowd. She sneered inwardly; Ni Chongyang's cruelty and ambition were even more severe than she had anticipated. No wonder the base was willing to go to any lengths to eliminate him.

This further strengthened her resolve to eliminate the threat completely.

"Found it, He Liang, take me inside," Yu Miaomiao said softly to He Liang.

"Okay, be careful in everything."

A dark figure slipped in through the crack in the door, stealthy and swift, all without making a sound.

"So, regarding the mutation of experimental subject B17..." One of them opened the document in his hand, about to report, when the lights in the conference room suddenly went out, plunging the surroundings into darkness.

"Huh... what's going on?"

"What happened?"

Yu Miaomiao appeared beside Ni Chongyang like a ghost, a Tang sword in hand, its cold light flashing, and the air seemed to freeze.

The Tang sword went straight for Ni Chongyang's throat. "Ni Chongyang, let your sins end here." Her voice was cold and resolute, without the slightest tremor.

Ni Chongyang was taken aback at first, then laughed disdainfully: "Miss Yu, I didn't come looking for you, but you have the guts to deliver yourself to my door. But you're too naive. A mere greenhorn like you, do you really think I'll be at your mercy just because I'm sitting here?"

As expected, Yu Miaomiao discovered that her Tang sword did not directly slit her throat as she had anticipated, but instead cut into a metal pipe.

Ni Chongyang slammed his hand on the table, and several small robotic arms suddenly popped out from a hidden corner of the conference room, carrying various weapons and aimed at Yu Miaomiao.

The others in the conference room also snapped out of their panic and pulled out their weapons, instantly creating a tense atmosphere.

Yu Miaomiao remained unfazed. With a slight movement, she transformed into a blur, her Tang sword cleaving through the air, deftly blocking the incoming bullets and lasers, none of which managed to get close.

Then, with a flick of her wrist, Yu Miaomiao's right hand instantly transformed into a laser gun in the next second.

It wasn't that Yu Miaomiao's speed had increased, but rather that everyone present had been controlled by Ji Mu's illusions, causing them to slow down. Now, Yu Miaomiao saw these people as if they were in slow motion, playing frame by frame.

"You underestimate me... no, it's us. I never take on a one-on-one fight lightly."

Yu Miaomiao's voice clearly pierced through the noise of the battle and reached Ni Chongyang's ears.

She pressed forward relentlessly, each shot hitting Ni Chongyang's vitals. His entire body was covered in metal, yet he still couldn't withstand the weapon in Yu Miaomiao's hand.

This is the new weapon that He Yusen gave me; it's indeed more effective for people with superpowers.

A look of astonishment flashed across Ni Chongyang's eyes. He had not expected that his proud metallization ability would be so vulnerable to this mysterious laser gun.

Sweat slid down his forehead and dripped onto the gradually melting metal floor, making a sizzling sound, as if even the air itself was trembling.

"Why...why are you trying to kill me? You're not from the underground military, are you?" Ni Chongyang struggled to sit up, his voice tinged with a plea.

Yu Miaomiao's lips curled into a cold smile, and the laser gun slowly lowered, but her eyes were locked on her opponent like a cheetah.

"How do you know I'm not? You crossed the line, and most importantly, you ruined my peaceful life."

As soon as he finished speaking, a series of hurried footsteps came from the distant corridor, clearly indicating that Ji Mu's hallucination was beginning to weaken and that the outside support team was rapidly approaching.

It seems that some of those who were diverted by Yu Miaomiao through diversionary tactics have noticed something amiss.

Yu Miaomiao's eyes sharpened; she knew time was of the essence.

"Wait... I..." Ni Chongyang still wanted to struggle, but Yu Miaomiao didn't want to listen anymore.

"Let's go," she said simply to Ji Mu, before firing the final, fatal shot at Ni Chongyang.

Ni Chongyang slammed her head heavily onto the table. After confirming that she had stopped breathing, she and Ji Mu disappeared into the darkness without lingering any longer.

Take advantage of the chaos to quickly evacuate the scene.

The shadowy figure hurried along, unlocking the access control systems of all the rooms as instructed by Ji Feng, thus freeing those who had been imprisoned and detained.

As for where they will go in the future, that's beyond Yu Miaomiao's control.

Finally leaving the weapons factory, He Qing found herself surrounded by a group of mercenary superhumans who were even more troublesome than zombies. Despite the commotion inside the factory, she did not give up on the place.

The superhumans were frantically destroying the RV, but there was a halo around the RV's surface, which looked like Xu Nanwei's air shield.

"Truly persistent."

But it's all in vain; what doesn't belong to you can't be taken by force.

A dark figure peered under the RV, and Yu Miaomiao stretched out a hand, instantly pulling the RV into her spatial storage. Before anyone could react, they made their escape.

There's no need to waste time on these irrelevant people.

When the RV reappeared on the ruins, they were already dozens of kilometers away from the weapons factory.

Place the RV in a secluded spot, gently open the door, and let in the cool air from the air conditioner.

Xu Nan poked her head out slightly, saw that they had returned, and happily pushed the door open to welcome them.

"You're back." Ye Jian said, sounding like a family member who had been waiting for them to return home. His voice was noticeably relaxed, and his gaze quickly swept over the group to make sure they were all safe and sound.

Yu Miaomiao nodded and told He Liang to carry Ji Feng to the car first. She had already informed K that a bed had been prepared for Ji Feng in advance.

Yu Miaomiao stepped into the car first, followed closely by Lu An and Ji Mu.

The car was spacious, and even though they were a group of people sitting together, they didn't feel crowded.

"Ji Mu, are you alright?" Xu Nan asked impatiently. She saw that Ji Feng and Ji Mu looked exhausted and was a little worried.

"It's alright, we've completed the plan successfully!" Yu Miaomiao looked around, seeing everyone's serious expressions. "The experimental data and weapons have all been brought out, and both of them are safe and sound. A partial victory?"

K: "Based on my analysis, they should be furious right now. You need to be prepared to retaliate at any time. They won't let this go. I think you've found some escape routes, so please run away as soon as possible."

"K, you're worrying too much. Don't worry, we'll be more careful," Lu An teased. This robot was too responsible; its serious demeanor was especially amusing.

"Let's rest first, and leave the rest for tomorrow." Yu Miaomiao gulped down a large glass of water. She was too tired today to think any further.

At night, K was still in charge of guard duty, but now he had his own spot: the driver's seat. If any danger was detected, he would drive them away.

"What if it's a great danger?" K asked.

"Then wake us up loudly."

"receive."

As night fell, the lights inside the RV were turned down to their lowest brightness, and everyone returned to their seats to rest.

This time, Yu Miaomiao didn't kick everyone off the bus. Everyone was exhausted after a long day and didn't have the extra energy to dwell on these things.

K sat in the driver's seat, his sensors constantly scanning for changes in the surrounding environment.

Although he doesn't need sleep, he is more focused than anyone else when he receives instructions.

This made Yu Miaomiao feel very relieved.

As time went by, the sound of the wind outside the RV and the occasional calls of nocturnal animals intertwined, creating a unique reverberant melody.

Suddenly, K turned his head toward the window. His scanner detected a person slowly moving toward them, seemingly trying to sneak over under the cover of darkness.

K thought for a moment and decided that there was no immediate threat. He gently started the engine and drove away from where he was.

In the darkness, a man kept sniffing the air as he slowly groped his way in the direction the RV had left. He dared not use a flashlight and tried to walk as quietly as possible, for fear of arousing suspicion.

But just as he felt the smell getting stronger and stronger and he was getting closer to his goal, the smell suddenly started to fade away.

He quickened his pace to catch up, but how could two legs keep up with four wheels?

He chased after him, driving K the whole way, and soon left the man further and further behind.

"Damn it, the more we chase them, the further they get away. Have they found us?" the man muttered to himself.

K drove all night, and when Yu Miaomiao woke up, they had already left the capital and were driving on a desolate and chaotic highway.

"Where am I..." Yu Miaomiao was bewildered. How come the scenery outside the window had changed after she woke up?

K replied coldly and calmly, his voice low so as not to disturb the others who were still resting, "It seems we were being followed, so I drove everyone away last night, and we should be some distance ahead now."

Upon hearing that they were being tracked, the rest of the group snapped to attention almost simultaneously, their senses heightened by the long-term apocalyptic crisis and battles.

Hearing the keyword triggers self-protection, immediately preparing for either combat or escape.

How far away are they from us now?

"It's about 400 kilometers now. At this speed, he can never catch up," K replied, displaying the man's current location and their own on the screen.

"Uh... 400 kilometers? You call that being tracked?" Yu Miaomiao was a little confused. Could it be a mistake, or that it was just someone passing by?

"We were only 3 kilometers apart, but he kept getting closer to us, so I drove away."

K paused, then added, "And all night he was following the route our car took, getting closer to us. I think he was tracking us. Also, when I scanned the area, there were a lot of people gathered further away, moving toward us."

Yu Miaomiao frowned, carefully considering the information K had provided. She felt that things were not so simple.

"If what you say is true, then we need to develop a response strategy. Although 400 kilometers seems safe for now, we don't know their tracking methods. If, as you say, he has been following our route all night, then it proves that this person is hard to shake off, and we cannot be careless. If he has accomplices who are coming for us, then the danger will be even greater."

"That's right."

Everyone nodded in agreement, and K also agreed. He tapped his fingers lightly on the RV's control panel, bringing up possible routes and strategies.

"Then let's try changing our direction and choosing a less traveled route. This section of the terrain is mostly dense forest, which can provide some concealment. Let's see if we can shake this person off completely."

The vehicle silently drove away from its original location and turned onto a secluded mountain road.

The dense forest provided the best cover, but everyone was on edge, sensing that this was not a simple mechanical tracking operation.

If it's some kind of superpower, then it'll be very difficult.

We must find this person, control him, or get rid of him.

K reconfirmed the man's location and discovered that despite their change of route, the trackers still seemed able to accurately predict their movements.

This extraordinary tracking ability sent a chill down everyone's spine.

Clearly, they were facing no ordinary enemy.

"We must find out how he's tracking us."

Yu Miaomiao said in a deep voice, "Whether it's technical means or something else, only by knowing how he found us can we have a chance to get rid of him completely."

"I agree." Ye Jian spoke first, staring intently at the dots on the screen, which were the approximate locations of the trackers. This was the image displayed by K's brain-computer interface connected to the car's infotainment system. He gave K instructions: "K, environmental scanning and tracking shouldn't be difficult for you. You'll be in charge of monitoring these. Also, we need to thoroughly check everyone's person or car for any trackers."

"Okay, after we park, He Liang and I will check the car for tracking devices inside and out." As soon as Lu An spoke, Ji Feng's eyes followed her, but when he heard that she was going to act with He Liang, he was clearly disappointed for a moment.

Ji Feng looked at his current condition; he couldn't even stand up, so how could he walk with her?

Lu An naturally noticed the subtle change in Ji Feng's expression and gently comforted him, "Ji Feng, you were able to stand up for a while last time, so I believe you'll get better soon. Once you've recovered, there are still many things that need your help."

Ji Feng forced a smile. He knew that in this environment, everyone on the team had their own role and task, and what he had to do was recover as quickly as possible and not cause trouble for anyone.

"Okay, thank you for your hard work. But, An'an, no matter what you find, handle it carefully. Safety is the most important thing."
