Chapter 29 - Chapter-28 : The First Major Counterattack

The school was alive in a way none of us had seen before. Hallways twisted like snakes, doors appeared where none existed, and the faint hum of the cube clashed with the low growl of shadows gathering in every corner.

"Everyone, positions!" Sarah shouted, holding the cube tightly. "The faceless creature is testing us directly. No mistakes this time!"

Lara immediately spun her chair, striking a dramatic pose. "Step one: chaos! Step two: comedy survival! Step three: optional snacks during epic battle sequences!"

Felix groaned. "Step four: why did I sign up for this again?"

Kai scanned the shifting hallways, chalk diagrams in hand. "The school is actively rearranging itself. Expect ambushes from new directions. Shadows are adapting, and the faceless creature is using Mira's connection to predict some of our moves. Stick to the plan—but be ready to improvise."

Mira's glow pulsed. "I can sense its thoughts… but it's probing me. If I hesitate, the shadows will exploit it. Focus. Focus. We can do this."

Emily and Jordan flanked the sides, guiding shadows into marked zones, while Chloe and Liam constantly adjusted symbols to control new movement patterns.

The first wave surged, twisting and elongating in impossible angles. The faceless creature appeared last, larger, limbs bending unnaturally, eyes—or what seemed like eyes—focused on Mira.

"Now!" Kai shouted.

Mira's glow flared, freezing part of the shadows mid-lunge. Lara darted forward, shouting jokes. "Why did the ghost go to school? Because it wanted spirit-ed grades! Ha!"

Felix swung his broomstick, trying to herd shadows into the trap zones. "I'm doing… something!"

Sarah raised the cube, pulsing energy that redirected shadows into the chalked zones. The faceless creature twisted, avoiding some traps, but we adapted in real time, adjusting symbols and positions.

Even with her ridiculous antics, Lara's chaos created openings. Shadows hesitated at her jokes, allowing Mira to manipulate patterns.

I ran alongside, heart pounding, keeping track of the flow. The faceless creature lunged at Mira, but Sarah and Kai blocked the path, channeling energy from the cube to push it toward a prepared zone.

The creature roared, limbs bending violently, but we held the trap. Small shadows fell into zones, the cube pulsing as the pattern expanded.

Mira exhaled, glow dimming slightly. "It's learning… but it's not perfect. We can control this if we keep improvising and stay coordinated."

Lara collapsed dramatically, chair held high. "Step four: chaos mastery! Step five: snacks… maybe after surviving this time!"

Felix groaned, muttering, "Step six: sanity… optional."

Sarah held the cube aloft. "We survived this wave, but the faceless creature knows we're adapting. The next encounter will be deadlier… and it will test every one of us."

I swallowed hard, realizing the stakes had just escalated. Noorwood High wasn't just haunted—it was a calculating opponent.

And the next strike could be the one that either destroys us… or finally gives us a chance to fight back.
