Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: The Heart of the Abyss

Shanghai's neon lights felt like distant stars as I descended into the "Abyss"—my secret underground sanctuary hidden beneath an abandoned silk factory. The air here was cool and smelled of ancient parchment and high-tech ozone.

I collapsed onto my black throne, my 175cm frame finally trembling. Merging with the Phoenix Heart wasn't just a power-up; it was like swallowing a sun. My silver hair felt heavy, and my purple eyes were glowing so brightly they illuminated the dark room.

"System... status," I croaked.

[ System Initializing... ]

[ User: Li Xian ]

[ Core: Phoenix Heart (Compatibility: 45%) ]

[ Current Level: Pseudo-Saint (Villain Path) ]

A holographic screen floated in front of me. This was my secret—a God-Level System that only activated when I committed a "Villainous" act for a "Heroic" reason.

"Compatibility is too low," I muttered, coughing up a drop of golden blood. "Xiao Yan's 'Golden Energy' is still fighting inside me. That idiot... his 'Righteousness' is like a virus."

Suddenly, the alarms of the Abyss went off. A projection showed the surface. The Xiao Family Elders had already declared me a "Grade-S Terrorist." They were frozen my bank accounts and sending 'Executioners'—mercenaries who used forbidden soul-magic.

I stood up, my single black wing unfurling with a snap that shattered the nearby stone pillars. I didn't feel fear; I felt a cold, dark hunger.

"If they want a Villain," I whispered, my voice echoing through the hollow halls, "I will give them a Nightmare they can't wake up from."

I reached into the air, and from the shadows, a scythe made of dark crystal materialized in my hand. It was the 'Silence-Breaker'.

10... 9... 8...

The vision showed the ceiling of my sanctuary exploding. Six Executioners were going to drop down, using a 'Holy Net' to trap me.

3... 2... 1...

I didn't wait for them to drop. I swung my scythe upward, sending a wave of purple-black energy through the ceiling.

BOOM!

The screams of the Executioners were cut short as they were swallowed by my shadows. I walked through the dust, my eyes locking onto the last surviving mercenary.

"Go back to the Xiao Elders," I said, stepping on his throat. "Tell them... the Empress doesn't hide. She waits. And when I come for them, even the gods won't be able to save their souls."

The last Executioner's body dissolved into black ash, leaving only the smell of burnt ozone in my underground sanctuary. I stood amidst the wreckage, my 175cm frame glowing with a faint, violet aura. The Phoenix Heart in my chest was finally settling, but the cost was high.

"System... show me the 'Hero's Legacy' data," I commanded, my voice echoing through the dark halls.

[ Scanning User DNA... ]

[ Result: 25% Divine Blood detected. ]

[ Status: Locked. Need 'Pure Essence' to unlock. ]

"Divine Blood?" I whispered, looking at my hands. They were trembling, not from fear, but from a power that felt thousands of years old. My father, the man the world called a 'Traitor,' had always told me that our family didn't choose the Villain's path—the path chose us because the 'Heroes' were too corrupt to handle the truth.

Suddenly, a holographic projection appeared. It was a live news feed from the Shanghai surface.

"Breaking News: The Xiao Family has placed a 5 Billion Yuan bounty on the head of the terrorist, Li Xian. Anyone harboring her will be executed."

I saw Xiao Yan's face on the screen. He looked tired, his arm in a spirit-sling. He was being forced to lead the hunt against me. The 'Hero' was now the puppet of the very Elders I wanted to destroy.

"They want a war? Then I'll give them a massacre," I said, a cold smile touching my lips.

I walked to the far end of the Abyss, where a massive stone door stood. It was carved with the image of a Dragon and a Phoenix locked in a deadly embrace. This was my family's true inheritance—the 'Hall of Lost Arts'.

10... 9... 8...

The vision hit me like a physical blow. I saw the Xiao Family's private jet landing at the Shanghai airport. Inside was the 'Great Elder', a man who had mastered the 'Heavenly Sword' technique. In the vision, he didn't go to the police; he went straight to the orphanage where I used to volunteer.

He was going to use the innocent to lure me out.

3... 2... 1...

The vision ended, and my purple eyes burned with a murderous rage.

"They've crossed the line," I growled. "System, initiate the 'Shadow-Walk' protocol. If they want to play with the lives of the innocent, I'll show them what happens when a Villain stops playing by the rules."

I stepped into the stone door, the darkness swallowing me whole. Tomorrow, the world wouldn't just see a thief; they would see a Queen reclaiming her throne.

The 'Hall of Lost Arts' didn't just contain books; it contained the souls of my ancestors. As I stepped through the stone door, the shadows crawled up my legs, weaving into a new outfit—a battle-armor of obsidian silk and silver dragon scales.

"System," I whispered, my voice vibrating with the power of the Phoenix Heart. "Sync with the 'Heavenly Void' frequency. I'm going to the surface."

[ Warning: User's body cannot handle 100% Sync. Risk of heart failure: 80%. ]

"Do it anyway," I growled. My 175cm frame was now surrounded by a purple fire so hot it turned the air into plasma.

I didn't use the stairs. I used the energy. I launched myself upward, crashing through layers of concrete and steel like a god-sent meteor.

BOOM!

I burst through the ground in the center of the Shanghai International Airport, right in front of the Xiao Family's private jet. The runway cracked for miles. Security guards and high-level cultivators were blown back by the sheer pressure of my arrival.

The Great Elder stepped out of the jet, his white hair flying in the wind. He held a golden sword that hummed with 'Holy' light. Behind him, held in spirit-cuffs, were the three children from the orphanage.

"Li Xian! You dare show your face here?" the Great Elder roared, his voice amplified by Qi. "Kneel and return the Heart, or these children die for your sins!"

10... 9... 8...

The vision was terrifying. I saw the Great Elder swinging his sword, not at me, but at the ground, creating a shockwave that would crush the children instantly. He was a 'Hero' who didn't care about collateral damage.

3... 2... 1...

"Sin?" I laughed, a sound that made the airport's glass windows shatter simultaneously. "The only sin here is your existence."

I didn't move my hands. I moved my Shadow-Wing. It expanded to a massive 20 meters, blocking the sun and turning the runway into midnight. From the shadows, thousands of dark spears rose.

SHINK! SHINK! SHINK!

In a split second, I had neutralized every single Xiao Family guard. Not by killing them, but by pinning their shadows to the ground. They couldn't move an inch.

I appeared in front of the Great Elder in a flash of purple lightning. My hand was around his throat before he could even raise his 'Holy' sword.

"You use children as bait?" I whispered, my purple eyes turning completely black. "And you call yourself a Hero? In my world, the Villain has more honor than the Saint."

I squeezed. The golden sword in his hand cracked. The 'Phoenix Heart' in my chest roared, and a shockwave of crimson energy exploded from me, flipping the private jet over like a toy car.

"Tell the world," I shouted, my voice carried by the wind to every news camera in the area. "The Xiao Family is no longer in control. Shanghai belongs to the Crimson Empress now!"

I snapped the Great Elder's sword with my bare hands and walked toward the children, my black wing gently wrapping around them to shield them from the chaos.

The 'Hero' was defeated. The 'Villain' was the savior. And the Editor... the Editor would be speechless.
