Chapter 24 - Blood for Blood

Hospitals have a sound.

A quiet, steady rhythm.

Machines.

Footsteps.

Distant voices.

Life—

Hanging on.

Daniel Hayes stood in the hallway.

Still.

Too still.

Behind him—

His brother fought to stay alive.

In front of him—

The war continued.

"Status?"

His voice was low.

Controlled.

But something inside it—

Had changed.

Laura stood nearby, holding her tablet.

"We traced the vehicle," she said.

"Brake system tampered with."

Daniel's eyes didn't move.

"Who?" he asked.

Laura hesitated.

"We're still investigating," she said.

Silence.

Because that answer—

Was no longer acceptable.

Daniel turned slowly.

"Find them," he said.

A pause.

"No delays."

Laura nodded quickly.

Because this—

Wasn't a request.

Across the city—

Carter Holdings.

Emily Carter stood in her office.

The lights were off.

Only the city illuminated the room.

Her reflection stared back at her.

For the first time—

There was no certainty.

Only conflict.

"Miss Carter."

Robert stepped in.

"We've identified irregular movement tied to the incident," he said.

Emily turned immediately.

"Explain."

Robert placed a file on the table.

"Third-party involvement," he said.

"Private contractors. No direct link to Carter Holdings."

Emily's eyes scanned the report.

Then—

Stopped.

Alexander Knight.

Silence.

Because now—

The truth was clearer.

"He escalated without authorization," Robert said.

Emily's jaw tightened slightly.

"That wasn't strategy," she said quietly.

A pause.

"That was chaos."

Across the city—

Obsidian Tower.

Alexander stood at the window.

Watching.

Waiting.

The door opened.

Daniel Hayes walked in.

No hesitation.

No announcement.

Just intent.

For a moment—

Neither spoke.

Then—

"Was it you?"

Daniel's voice cut through the silence.

Alexander didn't turn.

"I already answered that," he said.

Daniel stepped forward.

"That wasn't an answer," he replied.

Alexander turned slowly.

His eyes calm.

But sharp.

"I accelerated the outcome," he said.

Silence.

Because that—

Was enough.

Daniel moved.

Fast.

He grabbed Alexander by the collar—

Slamming him against the wall.

The room froze.

"Family is not part of this," Daniel said.

His voice low.

Dangerous.

Alexander didn't resist.

Didn't panic.

He just looked at him.

"Now it is," he said quietly.

That—

Snapped something.

Daniel's grip tightened.

"For you," he said,

"This ends now."

Alexander's lips curved slightly.

"No," he said.

A pause.

"For you… it begins now."

Silence.

Heavy.

Daniel released him.

Stepped back.

Because he understood.

This wasn't about control anymore.

This was something else.

Across the city—

Emily Carter arrived.

Unannounced.

The elevator doors opened.

And she stepped into Obsidian Tower.

The tension shifted instantly.

Because now—

All three were in the same place.

Emily walked into the room.

Her eyes moved between them.

Daniel.

Alexander.

And in that moment—

Everything became clear.

"You," she said.

Her voice sharp.

"This was you."

Alexander didn't deny it.

"You needed pressure," he said.

Emily's eyes burned.

"That wasn't pressure," she snapped.

A pause.

"That was reckless."

Alexander stepped forward.

"No," he said calmly.

"That was effective."

Silence.

Because now—

They stood on opposite sides.

Daniel watched them.

And for the first time—

He saw it.

The difference.

Emily—

Control.

Alexander—

Chaos.

And him—

Something in between.

"This ends now," Emily said.

Her voice firm.

"We stop."

Alexander laughed softly.

"You think you can stop this?" he asked.

Emily stepped closer.

"I know I can," she said.

Alexander's gaze sharpened.

"Then try."

Silence.

Because now—

There were no alliances.

No balance.

Just conflict.

Daniel turned.

Walked toward the door.

"Where are you going?" Emily asked.

He stopped.

But didn't turn.

"To finish it," he said.

A pause.

Then he added—

"My way."

The door closed.

Leaving Emily and Alexander alone.

Silence.

But not empty.

Dangerous.

Emily looked at Alexander.

Her eyes cold.

"If anything happens to him…"

A pause.

"You won't walk away from this."

Alexander smiled faintly.

"That's the idea."

Across the city—

Daniel stepped into the night.

Rain falling.

But this time—

He didn't feel it.

Because something inside him—

Had changed.

This wasn't about control.

This wasn't about power.

This was about consequence.

And now—

There was only one rule left.

Blood for blood.
