Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Cold And Dark

Xlynor's POV

"Did she— Did she just jump through the balcony?" Zane sprinted forward to stand beside me.

I had earlier given him a signal not to chase after the silver-haired, so he had remained standing until now.

He rushed to the balcony, then looked over it. "What kind of craziness is that? She literally jumped over this, a mere human. I can't even see her." He glanced back at me.

I stood straight, cracking my neck, then crossed my arms behind me before leaving without saying a word.

Zane's confused eyes followed me, then he glanced back over the balcony.

His forehead creased. "We're just going to let her go? Because she jumped? Just like that?"

I stopped walking then looked over my shoulder, back at Zane. His face was contorted, like he couldn't understand a thing happening.

Of course, he wouldn't. The silver-haired I bought woke up, flew into a fury, and jumped from the second-floor balcony while I did nothing. Who wouldn't be confused?

My tongue flicked over my bottom lips and I smirked slyly. "Not another word, Zane."

His lips snapped shut instantly while I rolled my eyes. I knew he had a lot to say… that talkative Beta of mine.

"I think we found a muse, more like a pawn for us. She's quite impressive, isn't she?" Barkow, the loudest, goofiest and most impatient of all my demons spoke in my head as I walked.

A small smirk which would hardly be noticed appeared on my lips.

"I wouldn't lie, Barkow, she's quite a…" I paused for a millisecond. "Quite a character, I must say, and I'm impressed."

A deep chuckle erupted from Barkow at my words. "I knew it, I guess we'd be having fun for a few weeks."

"A few weeks?" Zirdow asked. Another of my demons.

"She's likely to die in our hands, so I would just give her a few weeks. As long as she tries not to offend Xlynor, which seems impossible because it seems she's the type," Barkow sneered.

I loved when my demons were this light-hearted and happy, I got a break and, for once, wasn't the one being stressed out.

Just as I got outside the manor, I stopped in my tracks then turned to Zane, who was following silently.

"We were about to go meet Zoya, right?" I asked and Zane nodded.

I curled my lips at the thought of that desperate she-wolf. "Have her kneel on the torture grounds for twenty-four hours. She should know never to step foot on my property or go against my rules," I inhaled.

"Have the maids clean up this building and sanitize it. Not a single scent of hers should be found here," I added, before continuing my walk while Zane headed in the opposite direction.

Zoya Thorne, my betrothed, who led the list of women I hated. Her desperation and obsession pushed me to the wall every fvcking time, yet I had to keep up with her because of the damned elders and Aunt Eira, but she should still know when not to cross the line.

I had rules and everyone in this fortress had to keep to them! It was compulsory and no wolf, not even Aunt Eira had the guts to go against it.

The moment I got to the entrance of my private castle, I saw Nyx pacing back and forth. It looked like she had been doing that for hours.

Still composed with my gaze fixed ahead, I continued my walk. Immediately she caught sight of me, she did a short race towards me till we were walking side by side.

"Xly," she called after a few minutes of us walking in silence.

I hummed a reply.

"Xly," she whined, coming to stand in front of me.

I lifted my gaze to meet her's. "To what do I owe this impromptu visit?"

"Why the formality, Xly?" She pressed her lips together.

"It's rare for you to visit the 'dark castle'," I mimicked her voice. "Go straight to the point Nyx and stop cutting corners. If it wasn't urgent you would have waited at the castle and not come to mine."

I brushed past her while she strutted behind. "It's Eryndor…" she hesitated, then continued. "He's mad, he's destroying things in the royal quarters, Xly." She lifted my robe.

She had a thing for lifting my robes whenever we were together. To her, it was too long, and I had to stress the washers by staining them.

"So?" I muttered coldly.

"It's about the slave, Xly. It's the first time I see him want something this badly. At first, I thought he just wanted to piss me off, but he wants her… I don't know why, but she seems really important to him." She mumbled.

"And he has you running over to me just to report?" I spoke.

"No, no, no." She rushed her words. "Actually, I know the slave means nothing to you. You probably want to piss Eryndor off, but he's taking it too far, so I was wondering…"

I froze, tilting my neck. "Wondering what?"

"Uhm." She swallowed. "If you could give her back? She got him fairly." She whispered softly but enough for me to hear.

My brows twitched and my chin jutted. I turned fully to her.

"Give her back? Was she taken from him?" I took a step forward.

"No, that's not…"

"What makes you think I'll listen to you?" I took another step forward.

She faltered then began shrinking under my gaze.

"I… I…" she stuttered, lost for words.

"What makes you even think she's more important to Eryndor than me? I want her as much as he does, and she stays with me, Nyx." My voice deepened while my tone went dark.

I placed my palm on her head, rubbing softly. "You're the only one that gets too close to me, do not take it for granted and try not to cross the line."

She nodded swiftly. "I'm sorry, I got a bit carried away."

I crossed my hands behind me then faked a short smile… the type she was used to. "Better."

I guess now it was time for me to go teach silver-haired why trying to escape was meant to remain an intrusive thought.
