I'm lucky that Zhang Haoyu was there to give me a ride or else seriously I wouldn't be able to make it. But I don't say any of this to him and just hand him back his helmet before going inside .
He shouts after me but I pretend like I don't hear him and go inside the school gate.
As I'm walking, A hard impact hits me,nearly throwing me out of balance. I look up to find the source and see Meimei smiling at me.
She hugs me. "I missed you so much."
I hug her back and smile. "I missed you so much too."
We both hug, smiling...nearly about to cry, in the middle of the entrance.
After we calm down, Meimei tells me all about her trip to America. I listen to her ramble about times square and celebrities, and unknowingly, I get lost inside my own head. Somehow seeing Meimei look this happy while telling me about her family trip makes me feel...empty.
Was sadness always this lonely?
I try to remember the last time Aunt took me on a trip and a funny thought struck me.
We've never gone on trips. Aunt always said that we didn't have enough money. It made sense since Aunt is jobless and money was limited...but where did she get the money to raise me all this years?
Oh my! When did my thoughts get here?
I shouldn't be doubting Aunt. She was the only one who raised me, when no one wanted me.
"Hey!!" Meimei's shout brings me out of my reverie. "Are you listening?"
I give her a half smile. "Iam listening..stop accussing me."
She gives a suspicious glance but goes back to talking. "Do you know, last year, in our last year of elementary, the boys made a poll to vote for the prettiest girl in the class and guess who won?."
"Umm...I can't guess, tell me." I say .
She smiles wickedly. "It's you...YOU!!.. the boys think you're the prettiest."
"It's just a dumb thing. Do you actually believe that? Don't get involved in such things let's go." I say dismissing her statement.
She huffs. "Fine."
When we reach the classroom, I see a lot of familiar faces but equally I see new faces, which makes me nervous. Some of this faces looks like trouble.
I put my bag down in the middle row and Meimei follows suit. We side side by side. This is how it has always been, just me and Meimei, against the world and it's oddities.
