Every night the last train left the city at exactly 11:55 PM. Most people avoided it because strange stories surrounded that train. Some said it carried more than just passengers.
Riya worked late at a hospital and had no choice but to take the last train home. One cold winter night, she reached the empty platform just before midnight. The station lights flickered and the wind howled through the tunnels.
The train arrived slowly with a loud metallic scream.
Riya stepped inside. To her surprise, the train was almost empty. Only one woman sat at the far end of the compartment.
The woman wore an old white dress. Her long black hair covered most of her face. She sat completely still, staring down at the floor.
Riya felt uneasy but ignored it and sat on the opposite seat.
The train began moving.
For several minutes there was only the sound of the train wheels on the tracks.
Then suddenly…
The woman started whispering.
At first Riya couldn't understand the words. The whispering grew louder, like someone crying while speaking.
Riya slowly looked up.
"Excuse me… are you okay?" she asked nervously.
The whispering stopped.
The woman slowly lifted her head.
Riya's blood turned cold.
The woman's face was pale, almost gray. Her eyes were dark and empty, and there was a deep scar across her neck.
In a quiet broken voice she asked,
"Do you know… where my stop is?"
Riya tried to answer but her voice wouldn't come out.
The train suddenly stopped between stations. The lights flickered and went out for a moment.
When the lights returned, the woman was sitting right beside Riya.
Riya hadn't seen her move.
The woman leaned closer.
"I've been riding this train for years," she whispered. "But I can never find my station."
Her cold hand slowly grabbed Riya's wrist.
Then she smiled.
"Maybe… it's yours."
Suddenly the train doors opened even though there was no platform outside—only darkness.
The woman stood up and pulled Riya toward the door.
Riya screamed and struggled. With all her strength she broke free and ran to the next compartment.
When the train finally reached the station, Riya rushed out and told the station guard everything.
The guard looked at her silently.
Then he said something that made her heart stop.
"Ten years ago… a woman was murdered on that train. Her body was found with a deep cut on her neck."
Riya slowly turned toward the train.
Through the window she saw the same woman sitting inside…
smiling at her.
And whispering again.
