Jayjay'sPOV
I woke up as the morning sunlight hit my face. Instinctively, I reached out my hand to the other side of the bed.
Where's Keifer?
I immediately sat up and looked around, only for reality to hit me. Oh yeah... I had moved back to Kuya's house, and I was mad at him.
I picked up my phone from the nightstand and my eyes widened. There were multiple unread messages and seven missed calls from Keifer.
From: King Bingi
Wifey please talk to me.
I'm dying to hear your voice.
Jayjay, sorry na wifey.
I'll tell you everything, just answer my calls and messages.
Are you mad at me?
A tiny pang of guilt washed over me as I read his messages. I felt a little bad for ignoring him, but I wasn't doing it on purpose this time—I was literally asleep!
Should I message him back?
Yeah, I probably should, or he's going to get overly worried and storm over here. But then my stubborn side kicked in. No, no, I won't message him yet.
I looked at his chat again, but then my brow furrowed. Why was his internet status offline now? He almost never turned his data off.
A sudden, cold fear consumed my chest. I quickly dialed his number, but the call wouldn't even connect. Panic rising in my throat, I threw off my blanket, ran out of my room, and bolted down the stairs.
"Where are you going?" Aries asked, looking surprised as I was about to run right out the front door.
"Aries, take me to the mansion!" I said breathlessly, looking at him in desperation.
He looked at me, completely confused. "Why?"
"Keifer's internet is off!" I blurted out.
"His phone's battery probably just died, Jay," Aries said, shaking his head.
"No, Aries, please!" I shook my head frantically.
He let out a heavy sigh, seeing how panicked I was, and nodded. "Fine. Let's go."
We both ran out to his car, and he drove as fast as he could toward the mansion. The second we pulled up, I opened the door and jumped out before Aries could even fully stop the car.
"Hey! Wait up!" Aries shouted behind me, but I didn't listen.
I ran inside and started frantically looking around the living room and hallways for Keifer, but he was nowhere to be found. Just as I was about to run upstairs, I spotted one of the household putlers.
"Where's Keifer?" I asked, my voice trembling.
"Ma'am, Sir didn't come home last night," the butler replied politely.
My heart completely dropped. Before I could process his words, my phone suddenly started ringing in my hand. Aries finally caught up and stood right beside me. I looked at the screen—it was an unknown number.
I swiped to answer, my hands shaking. "Hello?"
"Hello, is this Mrs. Watson?" a formal voice asked from the other end.
"Yes?" I answered, holding my breath.
"Your husband was involved in a very tragic car accident. He is at the hospital right now."
As soon as those words left the speaker, tears immediately flooded my eyes. Pure terror and overwhelming worry washed over me all at once, choking the breath right out of my lungs.
"Which hospital?!" I demanded, trying my absolute hardest to keep my voice steady.
The person gave me the hospital name and address before disconnecting the call.
"Jay, what happened?" Aries asked, his expression instantly changing when he saw my face.
"Aries... Keifer is in the hospital," I choked out, tears spilling down my cheeks. "I need to go. I need to see him! We need to leave right now!"
Aries didn't hesitate for even a second. He nodded sharply, and we both sprinted back out to the car. He slammed his foot on the gas, but as luck would have it, the roads were completely jammed with heavy traffic.
"Aries, faster please!" I sobbed, gripping the dashboard tightly as tears continuously streamed down my face.
"Jay, I'm trying, there's too much traffic!" he said, looking just as stressed and worried as I was.
When we finally pulled up to the hospital, I bolted out of the car. Aries rushed to the front desk to ask the receptionist for Keifer's room number, but she informed us that he had just been rushed into the emergency ward.
Please God, please let Keifer be safe... Please don't let anything happen to him, I prayed desperately in my heart, my vision blurred with non-stop tears.
Aries guided me over to the waiting area outside the emergency room, and we both sat down, waiting in agonizing terror.
While we were sitting in agonizing silence, the double doors finally opened and a doctor stepped out. I immediately leaped out of my chair and rushed to him.
"Doctor! How's Keifer?" I asked quickly, my voice trembling.
"He's safe for now, but he's not entirely out of danger because he lost a massive amount of blood," the doctor explained gravely. "His blood type is O positive, which is currently running low in our blood bank, so it's critical we find a match soon."
O positive.
The moment those words left the doctor's mouth, my mind instantly flashed to Kuya Angelo. He has O positive blood!
"What do we do now?" Aries asked, panic in his voice.
"We need a compatible donor immediately. If you have any family members with O positive blood, that would save us crucial time," the doctor replied.
"Aries... Kuya," I whispered, grabbing his arm.
Aries instantly understood. He pulled out his phone and dialed Kuya Angelo's number. He talked frantically for a few seconds, explaining the situation, before hanging up and turning to the doctor.
"Our brother is on his way and ready to donate blood. Please just prepare everything," Aries said.
The doctor nodded sharply. "Understood," he said, turning back into the ward.
Aries gently tried to get me to sit back down, but my mind was completely consumed by Keifer. Why did I have to be so stubborn? Why was I mad at him over something so stupid? I wish I had just answered his calls...
As those painful thoughts crashed over me, I bowed my head and started crying silently, tears dropping onto my lap.
After what felt like forever, Kuya Angelo arrived. He took one look at my state before rushing off with Aries toward the blood donation room. A little while later, Tita Gemma came and sat beside me. Kuya Angelo walked back out with a thick white bandage wrapped around his arm.
"Don't worry, Jay. He's going to be alright," Tita Gemma soothed gently, rubbing my back as I broke down on her shoulder.
I nodded weakly against her, and she pulled me into a protective hug. But I was so drained, so empty, that I didn't even have the energy to hug her back.
"Keifer..." I sobbed uncontrollably, burying my face.
Seconds dragged into agonizing minutes, and minutes bled into hours, but no one came out with an update. Nurses rushed in and out of the emergency doors with medical supplies. Night fell over the city, and still, there was no concrete news.
Please God, keep Keifer safe... Please don't take him away from me.
Kuya Angelo tried to force Tita and Aries to go home, and he tried to make me go too. But how could I leave? How could I possibly sleep when my husband was fighting for his life? I refused to budge, and instead, I insisted that Kuya Angelo and Tita go home to rest. After much arguing, he finally agreed to leave for a few hours.
At nearly 6:00 AM, the morning light began to seep through the hospital windows. The doctor finally walked out, looking exhausted, and looked straight at me.
"He is completely out of danger now," the doctor said.
An overwhelming wave of relief washed over me, taking the crushing weight off my chest.
"However, he is still unconscious," the doctor added.
"Can... can I see him?" I choked out, wiping my swollen eyes.
"We need to transfer him to Room 609 first. Once he's settled, you may go in," he said, giving me a nod before walking away.
A nurse came by a short while later and guided me down the quiet hallway to Room 609. I pushed the door open gently.
There he was. Keifer was lying on the stark white hospital bed, his face pale, hooked up to monitors and IV lines, completely unconscious.
The nurse quietly closed the door behind me, leaving us alone. Tears immediately spilled over my eyelashes as I ran to his bedside and grabbed his cold hand in both of mine.
"Keifer... please wake up. Keifer, please!" I sobbed, lifting his hand and pressing my wet cheek into his palm. "I'm not mad anymore, I swear! Please just open your eyes, hubby... I'll call you hubby, I'll kiss you, I'll do whatever you want... just please wake up!"
I cried hysterically into his hand, pressing frantic, tearful kisses against his knuckles, his palm, and his pale cheeks.
"Keifer... wake up, please!"
Ears ringing with grief, I collapsed against him, resting my heavy head directly over his heart, listening to the steady, rhythmic beat against my ear.
"Keifer..." I wept nonstop, my chest heaving with deep, painful sobs as I clung to him. "Hubby... wake up, please..."
The sound of my sobs filled the quiet hospital room. I stayed locked in that position, clinging to him as if letting go would make him disappear entirely.
"I'm sorry..." I choked out against his chest, my voice completely hoarse. "I'm so sorry I didn't answer your calls... Just open your eyes, please..."
Suddenly, I felt a faint, barely noticeable movement beneath my cheek.
My breath hitched in my throat. I froze, holding my breath as I stayed pressed against his chest. Slowly, the long fingers of his right hand—the one resting on the side of the bed—twitched slightly. His heartbeat monitors started beating faster, but he still didn't open his eyes.
"J-Jay..." he whispered, his voice incredibly weak and dry.
"Keifer..." I cried out uncontrollably against him. "Hubby, wake up please. I'm sorry," I whispered against his chest, holding on to him for dear life.
Yesterday was an absolute mess. Keifer still wasn't awake, but even in his sleep, he kept murmuring my name. Sometimes his heartbeat would spike on the monitor, and sometimes his fingers would twitch against the bedsheet as if he was searching for me.
Section E came to check on him. Ci-N was desperately trying not to cry, while the others just stood there in quiet shock, staring back and forth between me and Keifer.
"Jay, you should eat something," Yuri said softly, placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.
I just shook my head, and he gently withdrew his hand.
"Jay, Keifer would be so sad if he found out you didn't eat anything," David added, his voice full of worry.
I ignored them both, keeping my eyes fixed on Keifer's pale face.
"Jayjay, you really need to eat something. You haven't eaten anything since yesterday," Aries pressed, stepping closer.
I turned and glared at him before snapping my eyes back to Keifer. From yesterday until now, I hadn't let go of his hand for even a single second. I was terrified of losing him. I couldn't lose him.
As I stared at his unconscious figure, fresh tears spilled over, falling like a endless river. I kept wiping them away with my free hand, never daring to release his grip.
Ci-N walked over and tried to hand me a bottle of water. I gently pushed it away.
"I don't want it, Ci," I whispered softly. He gave a quiet nod and stepped back.
As time passed, the doctor asked Section E to leave because there were simply too many people packed into the room. I practically forced Aries to go home too—I didn't want him troubling himself over me.
Once everyone was gone, I dropped my head against Keifer's arm.
"Keifer... Hubby, I'm not mad anymore. Please open your eyes. I won't leave you ever again, I promise," I cried loudly, my sobs tearing through the quiet room. "Please wake up..." I whispered, my tears soaking right through his sleeve.
Mid-sob, I felt a strange sensation, like someone was watching me. I slowly looked up toward the small glass window on the door. Yuri, David, Ci-N, Felix, and Aries were all gathered outside, peering in with heartbroken expressions. The second they noticed me looking, they all quickly turned their heads away, trying to pretend they weren't spying on us.
Three more agonizing days passed.
School had already reopened, but of course, I didn't go. How could I go to school when my entire world was lying in a hospital bed? I couldn't leave Keifer. Not now, not ever.
I was sitting on a chair right beside his bed, holding a warm, damp towel. Gently, carefully, I began wiping his face and forehead, taking care of him the way he always took care of me.
As I rinsed the cloth in the small bowl of warm water and wrung it out, a heavy realization crashed over me. Today was the fifth day. Five long, agonizing days of Keifer lying completely motionless on this cold, sterile hospital bed.
Five days of listening to the rhythmic, heartbreaking beep... beep... beep... of the heart monitor filling the silence of the room.
I looked down at his face, my chest aching so painfully it felt like it was going to split open. Regret was eating me alive from the inside out. I wish I hadn't been so stubborn. I wish I had just answered his messages that night instead of ignoring him over something so stupid and trivial. I wish I had picked up the phone when he called. I wish I had told him that I loved him instead of walking away angry.
I wish... I wish I could turn back time.
As I stood there drowned in my own dark thoughts, staring helplessly at his pale face, a soft, tentative knock sounded at the door. A second later, the door swung open, and Tita Gemma stepped into the room. She looked exhausted, her eyes filled with immense worry—not just for Keifer, but for me too.
She walked over gently, holding a small plastic container filled with warm food.
"Jay, sweetie... you really need to eat something," Tita Gemma urged, her voice laced with maternal concern. "You haven't eaten a single proper meal in five days. You've barely had a few sips of water. You're going to make yourself sick."
I slowly shook my head, my eyes never fully leaving Keifer. "I don't want it, Tita."
"Please, Jayjay," Tita pleaded softly, setting the container on the small side table and stepping closer to rub my arm. "Even just a few bites. Do it for Keifer. What do you think he'll say when he wakes up and sees you like this? You're so pale."
I turned my tear-stained face to look at her, my voice barely above a broken whisper. "Tita, I really can't. My throat feels completely blocked. I'll eat later, I promise... but right now, I just don't feel like eating. Please don't force me."
Tita Gemma looked at me with deep heartbreak in her eyes. She knew there was no point in arguing with me when my mind was so set. With a heavy, mournful sigh, she patted my shoulder gently.
"Alright... I'll leave the food here just in case," she said softly. "Call me if you need anything, okay?"
"Okay. Thank you, Tita," I murmured.
She gave my hand a gentle squeeze and quietly turned around, stepping out of the room and pulling the door shut behind her. Once again, the heavy, suffocating silence swept over the room, broken only by the steady hum of the medical equipment.
I turned back to Keifer and sat down on the chair right next to his bed. I reached out and took his hand, holding it tight between both of mine, feeling how unnaturally cold his skin was compared to usual.
"Hubby, wake up na..." I begged softly, fresh tears blurring my vision and spilling down my cheeks. "I'm so sorry... I promise I'll never ignore your messages ever again. I won't ignore your calls, I won't get mad at you for stupid things, and I'll never leave your side. Please... just open your eyes, hubby. I need you."
My voice cracked at the word hubby, a fresh wave of uncontrollable sobs tearing from my throat. I looked up at his face. His messy dark hair was falling over his forehead, partially covering his closed eyes. With trembling fingers, I reached out and gently brushed the soft strands of hair away from his forehead.
Leaning down, I pressed a long, lingering kiss against his cool skin, letting my tears wet his face.
"Keifer..." I sobbed out loud, burying my face against his neck. "Please... I miss you so much..."
Suddenly, the smooth, steady rhythm of the heart monitor spiked, beating noticeably faster. Beep-beep-beep-beep!
My heart jumped straight into my throat. I pulled back instantly, my wide, teary eyes scanning his face.
"J-jay..." a barely audible, broken whisper escaped his dry lips. His head tilted ever so slightly against the pillow, but his eyelids remained heavily closed, as if an impossible weight was holding them down.
"Keifer!" I gasped, my chest heaving as I gripped his hand even tighter, sandwiching it between both of my trembling hands. "I'm here! I'm right here, Keifer! I'm not going anywhere, I promise!"
I held onto his fingers with everything I had, terrified that if I loosened my grip even a little, he would slip away from me completely.
"I won't leave you, I swear... just open your eyes, please," I whispered desperately, leaning down until my forehead rested against our joined hands. Tears streamed continuously down my face, dropping onto his skin. "Just wake up... please, hubby, wake up..."
Unable to contain the sheer agony in my heart, I lifted his hand and pressed repeated, desperate kisses onto his knuckles, his palm, his pale cheeks, and his forehead, over and over again, praying for a miracle.
While holding his hand tightly against my tear-soaked cheek, my eyes drifted over toward the small glass window on the hospital room door.
Outside in the dim corridor, I could see Yuri standing a little further down the hallway, holding his phone tightly against his ear, talking frantically to someone with a grave, stressed expression on his face. Sitting on the hard metal waiting bench right outside the door was Percy. He looked completely drained, resting his elbows on his knees. Every few seconds, Percy would glance up, peering through the glass window straight at me and Keifer, his eyes filled with silent concern before looking back down at the floor.
They were all waiting. We were all just waiting for the moment the king of Section E would finally open his eyes.
I squeezed Keifer's hand one more time, pressing my lips firmly against his knuckles.
"I'm right here," I whispered softly near his ear. "I'll be right here waiting, no matter how long it takes."
Outside in the corridor, Yuri caught my eye through the glass window one last time as he turned to walk away, a look of deep, silent concern written all over his face.
Someone'sPOV
I walked briskly into the dark, cold building, my footsteps echoing off the empty walls. I kept looking around the shadowy room until my eyes finally landed on the two figures standing near the window.
Him and her.
"I told you not to do anything! But why can't you two just let me live my life peacefully?!" I shouted at them, my voice echoing with pure rage.
She turned around, a sickeningly calm smirk spreading across her face. "Lower your voice. We still hold that status in your life."
"Status my foot! Did you ever actually fulfill that status?!" I yelled back, taking a furious step closer. "Even if you are called my so-called parents, I don't accept you—just like none of the others do. You both are nothing to us now!"
He took a slow sip from his drink, looking at me with disturbing calmness. "Dear, control yourself. I gave you a task, but you failed to finish it. So, I had to take matters into my own hands."
"I hate you both," I spat, my voice dripping with hatred. "Our whole family hates you for sinking this low. You're completely out of our lives."
Without waiting for another word, I turned on my heel and walked away into the darkness.
Jayjay'sPOV
Suddenly, the smooth rhythm of the heart monitor broke into a frantic, rapid beep. Beneath my trembling hands, Keifer's fingers twitched violently as his heartbeat spiked.
"J-Jay... Jayjay..." he whispered out loud, his voice extremely weak but clear.
My head snapped up, tears pouring down my face. "Keifer!"
I gripped his hand tighter, pressing my forehead against his knuckles. "Hubby..." I called out softly again.
At the sound of that word, his fingers twitched once more against mine. Beneath his thin eyelids, his eyeballs moved rapidly as he desperately fought against the darkness to open his eyes.
The End 🌸.
