Chapter 25 - The Fracture of Reality

Nir moved. He did not run, nor did he rush. Instead, he advanced with measured, tranquil strides toward the distant horizon, where that enigmatic sensation grew progressively sharper with every passing second.

Behind him, the academy remained cloaked in silence—a sanctuary where he had spent years desperately attempting to belong. A place where he had exhausted everything he possessed to secure an acknowledgment that never materialized.

But now… he felt absolutely no allegiance to it. It was as though that entire chapter of his life had become a memory belonging to someone else. Someone weaker. Smaller. Someone who understood far less.

Lyra spoke in a hushed, tentative undertone:

"Where will you go?"

Nir paused for a fractured moment, then turned to face her. She was gazing at him as if trying to grasp onto something that was gradually slipping away from her reach. Something familiar… yet something she deeply feared losing.

He replied calmly:

"I don't know."

He fell silent briefly, then added:

"But I know that remaining here will grant me no answers."

She lowered her gaze, finding no words to offer, for she grasped the undeniable truth embedded in his words.

Meanwhile, the enigmatic entity remained rooted to its position, observing with a stillness that closely resembled a long, calculated anticipation.

"The path you are about to tread..." the entity spoke in a low, resonant murmur, "resembles no path ever known to mankind."

Nir hoisted his gaze to meet the entity's eyes.

"And did you tread it?"

A faint, ghostly smile played upon the entity's features.

"A fraction of it."

Nir's eyes narrowed slightly.

"And what did you discover at its zenith?"

A heavy silence ensued, stretching for several prolonged seconds. Then, the entity spoke:

"I discovered that the end is not a destination."

"It is a transmutation."

Something convulsed within the deepest recesses of Nir's soul. The words were not entirely transparent, yet they carried a staggering weight—a profound realization that every single step he took would alienate him further from the human being he once was.

Suddenly… the atmosphere trembled.

This time, the vibration was far from subtle; it was distinct, violently powerful, as though something was forcefully attempting to puncture the veil of reality. Everyone turned their gaze toward the heavens.

In the far distance, right at the bleeding edge of the horizon, a fracture materialized. Small. Hairline. Yet its mere existence was sufficient to ignite a primal terror. It was not a rift in the earth, nor a tear in space, but a fracture within the world itself.

Nir stared into it silently. Then, he felt that sensation surge again—that bizarre, echoing call emanating from beyond the fracture. From a realm where the laws of this world held absolutely no dominion.

The entity remarked:

"They are beginning to draw near faster than I anticipated."

Nir did not break his gaze from the rift.

"Who are they?"

The entity replied:

"The ones who saw you."

The fracture widened slightly, then expanded further, until the abyssal dark behind it became visible. Yet, it was not true darkness; rather, it was the absolute absence of something that possessed no name.

At that exact millisecond… a sound emerged.

A single, solitary voice. Placid. Distant. Yet it reverberated within the ears of everyone present with a terrifying clarity:

> "We found him."

The entire perimeter froze. Breaths hitched. Even the enigmatic entity's smile evaporated for the very first time.

As for Nir… he felt his heart deliver a violent, powerful thud. Not out of fear, but out of sheer realization. The realization that what had been closing in on him all this time… had finally arrived.

And within the deepest, unholy depths of that fracture, a pair of unknown eyes began to slowly open.
